  1. good report. Whenever I drive past there I'm shocked there are any fish in that lake anymore. 25 boats sounds like a typical Saturday or Sunday. Guess catch and release is working! If they were pickerel instead of stinkin slimy pike that lake would be empty by now
  2. I attended one time here in Barrie. gotta admit I was disappointed. Cost me an arm and a leg for half a rack, and the ribs weren't that great. To be honest, those pre-flavored ones from Loblaws that you just heat up on the bbq are better. Hope the Burlington experience is better (and less draining on the pocketbook) than the one I had.
  3. great photos, although I would have bolted the other way even if it was some dude in black fleece
  4. glad sinker mentioned the rings and not just the hooks...I had the o-ring straighten one time, now I replace them
  5. never heard of this place, but I did just hear it mentionned on the radio when they were talking about beaches that were closed or open...sorry I can't recall what they said about Earl Rowe...my suspicion is that they said it is open, but if it matters to you, better check it out.
  6. Good report JB, always worth the read. Nice variety of fish too
  7. watch out for crabs
  8. after reading a different thread, may I suggest a muskrat or other filthy rodent for bait?
  9. so was that your bait?
  10. persistence will pay off...even if you have to get out the auger to get at those pike!
  11. A good friend of mine (Chinese) got married in Vancouver last year. I was out there for a few days, and let me tell you, his family had me eat every "delicassie" imaginable, including the jelly fish! Quite an experience, I ate everything, and most of it was pretty good! Not sure I'd ask my wife to fry up some fish heads or chicken feet, but when in Rome...
  12. sounds like someone is getting a little fresh
  13. I've tried the 2 alarm thing but that got me in the doghouse. First alarm actually did wake me up...second one woke everyone else up when I was in the shower (snooze buttons can have the same effect).
  14. save your $$$$ on the live bait, you do just fine without it!
  15. that is a very good point! I always end up leaving an hour early for fishing trips because I'm too excited to get a proper sleep! Only thing that delays me is when I have set a meeting time with a partner...then I end up "playing" with lures and reels at 3:30 in the morning until they show up at 5 am. Wife thinks I'm freakin nuts...she's a smart woman.
  16. Wow, small world! I know those guys (Ed, Ian etc) they just rented my cottage a couple of weeks ago. Surprising to open this post and see their photos. Looks like they had a great day (I'll have to find out why I wasn't invited!)
  17. test the alarm 5 times in a row now and see if it works. If it does, maybe you have the same problem as many people: alarm goes off and you turn it off so quickly it doesn't even register...within seconds you are sawing logs again! I knew a guy who always had alarms that "didn't work". Now he puts his alarm on the other side of the room, requiring him to get up to turn it off, and guess what, his alarm works all the time now! The other thing that I've done is set the alarm for 5 p.m. rather than 5 a.m....man that sucks, especially when fishing was on the agenda.
  18. thanks for the heads up, next time I'm bringing some toast along
  19. Line???? Don't bother. If its a fight yer lookin for, just find yerself a catfish under an undercut bank and wrassle 'em out. That's the way men (and apparently some women) fish down south
  20. I had to hunker down on an "island" at Head Lake a couple of weeks back when the wind turned from bad to severe. Things can change in a hurry out there. Got pelted as I crouched on a piece of rock. Definitely learned a lesson that day. Hope everyone is ok at your trailers/cottages.
  21. I actually think it is the opposite. If the fish were not legal size, you'd have to throw it back and let it wash up on the beach with all those big stinky carp.
  22. nice report! Bass like that 5 minutes from my house but for some reason I feel the need to drive hours to fish. If only there were musky in Little Lake!!!
  23. sounds like a great trip! Too bad about the big musky. Reminds me of that episode of the Simpson's where Homer cries as he eats his pet lobster Mr Pinchy. Tastes good but you feel bad doing it!
  24. I would do that in someone else's boat!
