  1. hmmm, I believe this was discussed at length the other day and eventually the thread was deleted
  2. I never actually used the launch, but I did catch a nice smallie over near the rock face by the marina. I believe the store there only had worms I had a girlfriend with a place up there and they would leave their boat in the water so I never brought mine up (hence no use of the launch). Which area is north and which is south I couldn't tell you, but they were on Rabbit Island and there were all kinds of bass in the bay their cottage was in. i didn't fish much (wasn't allowed :D ) but when I did manage to sneak out it was either in the bay infront of their cottage for smallies, or over by the falls for pickerel. There are actually 2 sets of falls, a smaller set a couple of hundred meters (I believe) to the right of the obvious falls. Fishing the shopreline between the 2 falls worked for me. We caught very few pike in that area, I was told that pike fishing was better at "the other end of the lake"...whichever end that was, I never looked at a map, usually had someone who knew the lake with me if I was venturing any distance.
  3. yes there are 2 marinas on go home lake rd I believe. I always went to the furthest one, but its been a few years. I did catch walleye over by the falls. Lake is also jammed with smallies, shouldn't be a problem to have a decent day now that boat traffic is dying down.
  4. I'm a believer in the "lyman" saw a guy use one today and what an awesome action it had I'll definitely pick one up...oh yes I'm also a believer in the believer, although a swimm whizz will do in a pinch
  5. hahaha that narrator is a total buttnut. I especially liked the part where he claims that they were "dominated" by this animal. Luckily he edited out the footage when the sasquatch plays the banjo and forces them to squeal like a pig.
  6. no way jose. I see how much time my wife wastes there, not getting involved. My e-mail inbox is filled everyday with facebook e-mails saying some fruitcup commented on some photos
  7. thanks for the report. It would appear the herring are making a comeback. There were quite a few caught in last years charity tournament held out front of the southshore centre
  8. methinks I missed something...again
  9. whatever they are, they're all too small. When the lip is bigger than the bait you're undersized
  10. yipes if I know what you're referring to. My suggestion is stay the heck away from that beach, I stumbled upon it as a teen in the 1980's, my eyesight still hasn't fully come back. Tried to see if there were any girls around, but nope, not a one.
  11. ya, I've already heard the rainy lake one. Wonder where the fish will be from next? Might as well make it a longshot, my money is on Island Lake -Orangeville
  12. thanks for the update. I seem to recall some negative reports about this place, glad it worked out for you. Sounds like the fishing was awesome with both size and numbers.
  13. like I said, 3 simple words if you're after pickerel: 9 inch suick ;)
  14. wow, heck of a bass, congrats on the personal best. Couple of weeks and that brute will be a 5 lb'er. As far as the bullhead, man what an ugly beast. Toss that sucker into the log ride and get the heck outta there.
  15. Nice report, glad to see the fish cooperate for you again. Thats a beauty carp, and I see you also were able to land the elusive "dirt bass"
  16. caught a few pelican in my day, and last year a loon...the time I hooked into an ostrich though, now that's a episode I don't need to re-live.
  17. over 2 years now! hard to believe. Pros: close to good fishing. Cons: winter.
  18. nice photos. That second last photo has some monster smallies in it
  19. sounds like some tough conditions! On the positive side, if you luck into a fish or two you've done better than most, and you know what that means...$$$$
  20. you may be on to something. It truly has been a bizarre year, can't believe the number of pesky walleyes that have entered my boat. Here's a few more that have bit off more than they could chew. They seem to like the taste of the 9 inch suick. They are just lucky I don't like the taste of fish that much, all but one fish got released from my boat this year.
  21. 5 trips is awesome! I'm lucky if I get out 5 times. Usually Lakair is my one trip of the year, but even that didn't pan out for me this year. Congrats on the pb musky!
  22. I fished both these locations recently with some pretty poor results...so this should be pretty brief (hence the combo report rather than a report for each!) Went to Big chute with Alvin and we pounded it hard for musky. On the water by 7 a.m. and we casted non-stop until 5 p.m. Didn't even stop to eat...only drank as we bombed from one location to the next (well, "bombed" might not be the best term for a 25 hp). There are some great looking spots, but it was certainly a tough day. I think between the 2 of us we caught maybe 4 or 5 incidental fish and didn't even have a musky siting. We came across one spot that looked even better than the rest...green weed, boulders, close to deep water...Alvin commented all this spot needed was wood...and what do you know, we float over a stump and we are not far off the channel! Alvin had been "walking" a manta back to the boat, but this bass slammed it as we came by that deadly combo of weed/rock/depth/wood. This was the only photo worthy fish of the day. A few days later we headed out to Balsam, again in search of the wily and elusive musky. If anyone remembers Saturday the 15th...that's when we were there. Freakin cold and super windy. It was about 13 degrees colder than the previous few days had been (they were quite pleasant and in the 20's). That day water temps dipped to below 65 degrees, after the past week I wouldn't be surprised if water was back near 70 again! Either way, I often seem to pick the worst days to go fishing (because I have no choice...dang work dictates when you can fish!). We only had a few hours (thank goodness). Besides the tough conditions, trolling motor was acting up, running only at full speed. Because of the waves, we decided to tuck into south bay and spend our few hours in this spot. With the cold front, we tried to slow our presentations down, but when the boat got into the wind...you were being blown across the bay at a ridiculous speed. We did tangle with a nice musky, that grabbed onto a big jig in about 18 feet of water. Fish was kind enough to release itself after about a 20 second tussle. I keep telling myself that was the best result because I was too cold to unhook it anyways. Had the ice fishing fingers going by that time. Managed an incidental smallie, as well as this pickerel that fought so poorly I literally didn't know I had it until it was at boatside. That has been the story of my musky season...pickerel, lots and lots of pickerel. And trust me, a 2 lb pickerel on 80lb powerpro feels like 1 strand of cabbage coming in.
  23. dang incidental pickerel...that's been the story of my year...oh well, lots of time left to boat a big one
  24. those are some serious bass
  25. man those carp are damn ugly. Nice report though
