They were "THE" steelheader's reel when I first started fishing for steelhead. In the era before centre pin reels and float rods.............2 points

A nice big bone in (bone up) Cajun rub Pork Loin done in the smoker with Maple Wood chips. Smoked for 6 hours to 155* internal temp then covered and allowed to rest. Turned out perfect medium rare. Yielded me three 1+ inch slabs. And much to my delight my homemade Rhubarb Chutney was the perfect accompaniment to smoked Pork. Side (sad) note.....Damn, why didn't I roast the fresh Beets I have.2 points

When smart people are talking, I’m listening. Those coils are getting changed for sure now. Really fantastic tip. $70 usd a pop, not bad...not cheap but much cheaper than a top end rebuild!1 point

For many years I worked on a wide variety of aviation motors, both ac and dc, that were used for small galley fans running at 20k to large fans used for cooling radio racks to ventilation systems in aircraft. The main testing done on coils in armatures and rotors was doing an insulation resistance test ( also known a a megger check) and also doing inductance testing on the armature windings. Over the years I noticed that even though some motors would pass these tests, there was a direct correlation between readings on the outer end of the tolerances and lowers speeds and higher current draw in these motors. So by changing out the armature for example, test results were much improved. So offhand I would definitely agree with HH that it's quite possible that your coils are breaking down, if they're not that expensive and easy enough to replace it would be worth swapping them out just as preventive maintenance if not peace of mind. If the coils are old, worn etc, they could lower your RPMs, miss fire or simply not fire at all. I watched Bernie (30 year mechanic) diagnose a problem with FishnSleds 115 Merc. Hanging off the transom at 40k, you could hear the coils mis-firing. It would run, sometimes smooth and others, mis-fire. If yours are original, it can't hurt to replace them, they aren't that expensive and you will notice the difference quickly. HH Edit - not a Motorhead, but I can play Ace of Spades for yah on bass, if you wish! LOL1 point

I would still have mine, if they didn't steal it and my Avalanche that the sled was sitting in. Same thing for me last year. I didn't dare take the Suzuki out on Simcoe. I ended up going to Nipissing; so I could try Sally out on the ice.1 point

Seen a couple of guys doing it in 105 fow last weekend Bill. I was marking bait balls down 30-45 fow. Marked many fish driving up and down in them. Even seen some fish breaking the surface. Yup, smallies. Seen them land a few. I tried with no luck .1 point

not a bad idea If I got one with boggies instead of sliders then you need no snow at all I am only handy because I’m breaking stuff all the time. I was hoping to take a break from fixing things by buy buying new lol1 point

Went to st Clair. Broke the trolling motor. Then the mount for the fish finder snapped off on a huge wave. Didn’t sink the boat so i made out ok. But now I have to take it easy as I’m down to 1/2 roll of duct tape. I picked a spot about 8 miles out and i started to troll. Got a rip on a talonz slasher. Pulled it in and it has teeth marks. Kept going and got a nice musky. Floating and in the water column weeds made fishing tough Then Ruff water pushed me in. Went back out the next day and down sized the baits. Trolling a good looking spot a rod had straight drag. I fight a big one almost to the boat and the hook pulls out. Never saw it so I guess it was the world record. I had cleared the other rods. ( I stop the boat for any fish that’s not coming right in. ) So I put the bait back in and turn to the next rod and the clicker goes off. Fish on and no other rods out. Nice fight and a spot comes in. I see my net now has a cut in it Sharp teeth I guess. Trolled around for a while and saw a floater (35”) still alive. So I pulled the lures and held it upright for 10min and it swam away. I fished nearby and it didn’t come up again. Thinking the fishing luck should then be with me I trolled around in the boiling heat Until the water was flat and the heat pushed me in. Difficult fishing y1 point

As I've mentioned here before, my son was an iron worker for 20 years before being killed in a fall on the job. Apart from putting up skyscrapers, his company also erected and dismantled those huge tower cranes like the 2 that have collapsed in the last couple weeks. Years ago I knew my son was dismantling a tower crane in downtown Toronto but I didn't know exactly where. I had the noon news on and they reported a crane had collapsed and one of the guys working on it had been killed. I called the police station closest to where the accident was and told the person on the desk I was trying to find out if it was my son that was killed. They transferred me to the officer in charge of the station and he told me he wasn't allowed to give out the name of the deceased until next-of-kin were notified, but said to give him my son's name and he could tell me yes or no. Thankfully it wasn't Jim but to this day I think of that every time one of these cranes come down. Those guys do a job most would never have the nerve to do.1 point

I agree you dont have to have the most advanced equipment. My friend and I fish from a seadoo speedster boat with manual downriggers. Its a pretty rustic setup but works. first time we ever went out, we tried the 50/50 method. We were clueless on what were doing, but hooked into 2 8 lb rainbows that morning. Since then, we have gotten some better equipment, but from our experience, keeping it simple works best. 2 weeks ago, hooked into a 18 lb salmon which was running on manual downrigger with a 4 lb weight. didnt have a line counter, but estimated it was running at 30 feet. Raycaster, where do you launch from? I don't own a boat, but have some experience going out with friends on their boats. I am very observant and have learnt over the last two years of fishing Lake ontario on generally what works. If you wish, I can join you and share whatever little I have learnt. Last 2 trips out, we caught 3 of 6 on one trip and 6 of 8 on another. I also have some proven flies and spoons that one of the my more serious fisherman friend gave me that we can use. Let me know.1 point

Finally replaced the fishing vest that was in the car when it was stolen last year, Doesn't have the same sentimental value that a present for the family had, but except for the colour it's exactly the same, a Bushline Aparaho. Not sure if they spell it that way on purpose, or whether they didn't know that the indigenous tribe is 'Arapaho', but whatever, I've finally got one. I prefer it to a tackle box, the only trouble is keeping certain lures, like large plugs, in cloth pockets without them hooking the fabric. Haven't found those plastic Plano lure boxes that are large enough for a lure but small enough to fit in a pocket. I'm finding that plastic pill jars are quite useful in that regard, so I'm saving them. Gradually replacing all the stuff I had in it, but it's nowhere near as heavy as the previous one yet. I got so used to the weight that when the new one arrived in a box I thought it was empty!1 point
