So, where are all the fishing shows?  Bob Izumi, Charlie Wray, etc.  I see Fish TV, Fishin' Canada but nothing else.  Am I missing something?

You forgot Canadian Sportfishing with Italo, 6am on global CHEX.  I guess they must have dumped Mariko Izumi, man that was worse than watching runny paint dry on a humid day. There's also Angler & Hunter on CHEX at 7am.

I didn't mind watching Mariko at all...not necessarily for the fishing.. lol. Not many other TV anglers could fill a bikini like she did..

Can't imagine anyone would miss Charlie Wray, that show was nothing more than a sad pathetic infomercial.

And then, there was the Bill Dance fishing and comedy show.

I always enjoyed Bill Dance. Two shows come to mind. One where he broke the tip off his rod in the tailgate and another where he was snagged in a tree and wound up going overboard.

As my Dad used to preach, be careful as there are more fishing rods broke in trunk lids and car doors than there are on fish. It's a fact, even after all that I still broke one of mine in the trunk lid LOL.

I wouldn't watch Italo if you paid me. I guided him and Henry in the 70s, as far as I am concerned aside from being boring he brings nothing to the show that most of us don't already know.

The last time I tried to watch it he had his geriatric black lab nervously trying to keep his balance and stay atop his kayak. I hazard to guess what the poor old guy went through to get him on top of the kayak just to make him self look like a big shot. Who in their right mind does that.

I remember one of Bill's shows where he wacked his shin on the trailer hitch, another good one was where he was trying to hold the trolling motor where the clamps had loosened and it was flailing all over the place.

Haven'l watched any of them for 30+ years. Got tired of the hootin' and hollerin'. Tried again one Sat a few years ago and it was a 30 min infomercial!

Babe Winkelman had a good show and his wife used to cook up the catch at the end of the program.

I used to enjoy Babe and his wife. He went on to start a hunting show which I also found enjoyable. If I am not mistaken some time recently he fell out of a tree while trying to place his tree stand, spent some time in the hospital, almost didn't make it.

Italo is one of the most annoying condescending waste of skin I've ever had the displeasure of knowing, just saying.  :D

You hit the nail right on the head Spiel. That's more along the lines that I wanted to post but wasn't sure how far I could go and get away with it.

That poor old lab I referred to was scared half to death laying up on top of that Kayak.

I only guided him once for a show and after that he thought he knew more than I did and then had the nerve to ask me again and I told him no, with a few other choice words added in that I can't mention here.

I could say much about Italo, but I'll just leave it......for now.  ;)

I have been off of the classic "TV" fishing shows for a while now. Just giant ad commercials at fly in fishing destinations where you could use a shoelace to catch fish.

Not many good ones anymore but growing up.. man:

Hank Parker

Bill Dance

In-Fishermen

Those were the days - at least they seemed that way at the time

YouTube has so much content you would never need to watch TV for a "fishing show" again. Uncut, Jay Siemens, CSO, Tom Boley, Bend it fishing,  all create excellent content. Between those videos and Moosebunk's written reports, thats all the fishing entertainment I need.

Yes I agree those were the days. When I wasn't home to watch them I'd record them on the old VCR. Still have some tapes but no VCR LOL. Not that I didn't enjoy his shows but I'd forgotten about Hank, he also had a hunting show as well.

Here's one for ya's, who remembers this guy?  and he was likely the first to be on TV with hunting and fishing shows- Red Fisher, Scuttlebut lodge. I guided him a few times for Wild Turkey, Ring Neck Pheasant, Chukar and White Tail. It was a blast. He had quite a sense of humor.

Yup Red was a good guy and loved to drink. He came to my town many times and always bought a round for everyone in the tavern
