misfish Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 (edited) The bay here is still tight, but the big lake is opening up. If this opens up to the shore, I,ll be out fishing perch and smelts next weekend on the toon. Edited March 25, 2016 by Brian B
fishindevil Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 The ice is breaking up and on the move this morning
misfish Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 Seems it took for ever to get here, and forever for it to leave.
fishboy Posted March 26, 2016 Report Posted March 26, 2016 Gull Lake Friday. There's some idiot in a canoe out there. haha nice ...wondering if you've heard or seen anything about the ice status on Boshkung or 12 Mile...have a place near Carnarvon
Joeytier Posted March 26, 2016 Report Posted March 26, 2016 I'm going to get out on the ice a couple times this week, and then that will likely be it for my season. Wednesday we had our sleds on 16-17" of mostly black ice, but it will go quick when the rain shows up.
ecmilley Posted March 26, 2016 Report Posted March 26, 2016 Seen a adventurous boat out on pigeon this morning
huzzsaba Posted March 26, 2016 Report Posted March 26, 2016 Anyone have any info on lakes around milton? Kelso, Mountsberg, Valens? Thanks
Big Cliff Posted March 26, 2016 Report Posted March 26, 2016 Just got home from Sudbury, there is more ice on Sturgeon Lake today than there was on Friday Morning. I was going to go down and see if there were any crappie, I'd have to drill a hole, ice as far as I can see.
Big Cliff Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 As of last night I couldn't see any ice on Sturgeon Lake. That wind seems to have ground it up pretty well.
manjo39 Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 As of last night I couldn't see any ice on Sturgeon Lake. That wind seems to have ground it up pretty well. Thanks Cliff.
captpierre Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 Thanks Cliff Crazy rain this month. Any flooding anywhere?
Tom McCutcheon Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 Nothing yet Capt. That I have heard of anyway. They had lowered the level of Pigeon Lake about a foot yesterday in expectation of the rains today and tomorrow.
Beans Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) Saturday my bro-in-law Dave and I did a little bopping around the country side and the north end of Pigeon Lake was still frozen over with a few feet of open water along the shoreline...Upper and Lower Buckhorn looked to be open water everywhere... Tuesday afternoon I had an appointment with my cardiologist in Peterborough and noticed that Chemong was wide open...Lower Pigeon was free of ice...Today, I stopped by the Pigeon Lake (north shore) and there was still some ice out further than Saturday but not quite ice free yet... misfish Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 Me thinks I,ll be tooning come sunday. It,s opening up big time here.
cheaptackle Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 This morning we still had a good 90% ish coverage, probably thin though. Got home around 3 and not only no ice in sight but some good 3+ foot waves blowing in. Guess this lake is officially ice free now. Water's way up too, think the dams gonna breach again if it hasn't already. Michael
whiskywizard Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 At the south end of Sturgeon, the ice is long gone. I was in Lindsay yesterday and noted massive flow at the stoplogs by Lock 33. This morning, lake level is WAY up. It's over top of my seawall and part way up the lawn. Typical Spring here.
Kawartha Kev Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 Levels are definitely up on Lower Buckhorn from what I can see from the webcam from Reach Harbour Resort http://www.reachharbour.com/ Kawartha Kev
Joeytier Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 Looks like the long rods will be collecting a little more dust round here.
irishfield Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 My pool is finally ice free! Penetang Harbour appears clear, Midland Harbour and the Sound partially clear. Grain boat left on Monday.
Big Cliff Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 As Mike said, water levels in Sturgeon are high and rising. I would say that as of daylight this morning until now (about 3:00 pm) the water level has risen about 3". It isn't far off the highest I have seen it in 16 years. Fortunatly they aren't calling for much rain in the next week which should help let things catch up a bit.
AKRISONER Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 Looks like the long rods will be collecting a little more dust round here. Untitled.png was hoping to chase ice out crappolas on GB...-16 this week not a chance.
Big Cliff Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 Naw, water temperatures still way too cold and the water up until the last two days has been way to low for the crappie to move into the shallow areas. This cold front moving in is going to put them off their feed and it looks like it will be at least another two weeks before things start to warm up. The crappie won't even start to get active until we start to see water temperatured of at least 52°F and in my experience the most productive range is 58-62°F. We need some bright sunny days to start to warm up those shallow bays then we'll see some action.
Big Cliff Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 BTW Paul I am thinking the answer is no for the docks this weekend, high water, high wind, not much point in pushing it! My son was going to come down and help me with my dock and marine railway, we've decided to hold off for at least another week and might even make it two.
