DRIFTER_016 Posted August 10, 2017 Author Report Posted August 10, 2017 Roof looks great! Your landing looks about 6" short though. If you had cut closed stringers it would have worked better. Stairs can be tricky, but they are a favourite of mine to build. S. You are correct. Figured that out after. Going to shore it up with an extension before I go any further.
Old Ironmaker Posted August 10, 2017 Report Posted August 10, 2017 Would you please get off your but and tell the Minions just out of view to pick up the pace as well. We don't want to have the giant OFC house warming in September when the water is frozen solid. Please Dave, get a movin' son.

We don't want to have the giant OFC house warming in September when the water is frozen solid. Please Dave, get a movin' son. my flight to yellowknife is already booked...got a great deal on airfaire...maybe an OFC group buy??? LOL Creeper!!!! FYI, it was a water level not a water hose. Them water hoses are too hard to see through!!! And thanks EH!!! shows how much I know! although, i swear to god ive used a regular hose to level something before with my dad (old farmer trick) although im sure 100% accuracy was also not a requirement.
Old Ironmaker Posted August 10, 2017 Report Posted August 10, 2017 (edited) my flight to yellowknife is already booked...got a great deal on airfaire...maybe an OFC group buy??? We can charter an entire plane. shows how much I know! although, i swear to god ive used a regular hose to level something before with my dad (old farmer trick) although im sure 100% accuracy was also not a requirement. Did the same thing to find an internal water leaks on a cooling member on Blast Furnaces, a clear hose though. I think we called it a Newfie monometer. Like Dave said hard to see through a garden hose. But I do remember someone using a water hose to find level somehow on TV. Edited August 10, 2017 by Old Ironmaker
DRIFTER_016 Posted August 14, 2017 Author Report Posted August 14, 2017 (edited) Was back at er again this weekend. Managed to get my cribs assembled and installed. Also got the land based dock section leveled out finally. It's been bugging the crap out of me for three years!!!! Even managed to load about a ton of rock into the cribs. Still lots to go. Still need to fill in the section where the dock meets land to smooth it out. Got a little more work done on the stairs to the loft as well. Almost forgot. This rolled in Friday night. Air quality was horrible!!! Edited August 14, 2017 by DRIFTER_016
akaShag Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Last time I was up there was the year of the massive fires. But by the time I left town I had cut down to smoking three spruce a day.............. I get tired just looking at the pictures of all that work!!!!! AWESOME!!!Doug
DRIFTER_016 Posted August 16, 2017 Author Report Posted August 16, 2017 Looks like I'm taking the weekend off.
Dara Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 Maybe it will knock down some of the fires and smoke
DRIFTER_016 Posted August 17, 2017 Author Report Posted August 17, 2017 Maybe it will knock down some of the fires and smoke Maybe, but the fires are hundreds of miles away. Hopefully they get rain. Wind has changed and smoke is pretty much gone here now.
manitoubass2 Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 (edited) Darn man, hopefully this work of art stays safe(along with you of course) Amazing work! Edited August 17, 2017 by manitoubass2
DRIFTER_016 Posted August 28, 2017 Author Report Posted August 28, 2017 Back out to the cabin this weekend. Got the flashing at the bottom of my siding installed. Siding starts to go on next weekend. Even had time to build up my lower section of stairs.
DRIFTER_016 Posted September 4, 2017 Author Report Posted September 4, 2017 Back at 'er again this weekend. Got the stairs almost done. Ran out of sub-floor adhesive so still need to get the plywood done on the top flight. I can now use them though. Move the kitchen back to it's temporary home. Got my starter strips cut and sealed so I can get to work on the siding when vacay begins Friday after work. Spent 2 days burning off cuts and skids too. The site is starting to look pretty clean now. Nice that we've had a bunch of rain so I don't have to worry about burning down the forest this year.
DRIFTER_016 Posted September 10, 2017 Author Report Posted September 10, 2017 Day one of my vacation is in the books. Started on the siding and am pretty happy with how it looks so far. Noticed I hadn't taken a pic from the inside since the windows were installed so I fixed that up.
DanD Posted September 10, 2017 Report Posted September 10, 2017 Very nice! You should feel proud of what you've accomplished so far. I've followed this thread since its beginning. Thanks for sharing. Dan.
16 Footer Posted September 10, 2017 Report Posted September 10, 2017 Great work on your "cabin". You certainly have a lot of technical know how! I have been following your thread since the beginning with great interest as I have also been rebuilding my cottage at the same time. I had to get building, plumbing and ESA permits with follow up inspections. Is it the same or different up there?

No permits needed out side of the city limits.
DRIFTER_016 Posted September 15, 2017 Author Report Posted September 15, 2017 Haven't got a whole lot done since my last post as it's been raining since Sunday. Got a bit done outside on Sunday but nothing more until yesterday when it was just cold and cloudy. Woke up this morning to freezing temps and finally SUN!!!! Managed to get some inside work done on the rain days and I got some scaffolding planks built out on the covered deck as well. Yesterday the scaffolding went up and I framed in the gable end of the porch roof. Then I cut up some of my sweet Western Red Cedar 1X6 T&G that is going to be my soffit. Oiled it up last night so it could be installed today. Had to move it from upstairs to a sunny spot on the main floor as it didn't dry over night. Might have been the temps. Ran into town for supplies while it was drying and got it put up when I got back to the lake. Supposed to be nice for the next week so hopefully I'll get a bunch more finished.
DRIFTER_016 Posted September 15, 2017 Author Report Posted September 15, 2017 More crappy cabin pics.
Jds63 Posted September 15, 2017 Report Posted September 15, 2017 Amazing view and keep em coming ......
Terry Posted September 15, 2017 Report Posted September 15, 2017 (edited) Yup Wow The northern lights may be why house cost so much there . Pay for the view. Edited September 15, 2017 by Terry
