Gerritt Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) For everyone out there that has difficulty, or anxiety backing up a trailer (seen many posts here about this) it appears Ford has the answer... Check this out. http://www.wired.com/2015/05/ford-makes-backing-trailer-easy-turning-knob/ Now I wonder..... Will that have a knob to remind folks to put in the plug, and to remove the tie downs? Either way pretty cool. "Be a trailer hero" G Edited May 22, 2015 by Gerritt
Joeytier Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Wow, very cool technology. Great for guys like me with short trailer, long truck syndrome
FloatnFly Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. easy. its reversing the steering, without reversing it. its a brilliant mind trick my driving instructor taught me 16 years ago. Edited May 22, 2015 by FloatnFly
Mister G Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 I love this, now maybe all the Ford simpletons can launch their boats and get the heck out of the way for the rest of us.....LOL
dave524 Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Seriously, I do great looking in my mirrors backing up but if I turn around and look over my shoulder I get the directions messed upped. I am not a fan of those everything looks a mile away until you hit it mirrors on the passenger side.
lew Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 If you need a computer in your truck to back up your trailer for you because you can't do it yourself, you shouldn't be towing a trailer.
manitoubass2 Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) If you need a computer in your truck to back up your trailer for you because you can't do it yourself, you shouldn't be towing a trailer. Its Lew o'clock! Logic bomb Edited May 22, 2015 by manitoubass2
lew Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) Its Lew o'clock! Logic bomb Actually Rick, Lew o'clock came about 4 hours ago Edited May 22, 2015 by lew
Fishwilly Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 I have no problem backing up but this does look pretty cool. Come on guys....embrace technology. Just look at our gps graphs!
Fisherman Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 If you need a computer in your truck to back up your trailer for you because you can't do it yourself, you shouldn't be towing a trailer. Excellent, along with parallel parking.
FloatnFly Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 I love this, now maybe all the Ford simpletons can launch their boats and get the heck out of the way for the rest of us.....LOL As opposed to the Chevy owners who NEED built in WiFi in their vehicals????
kickingfrog Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Interesting, although a half hour in an empty parking lot would be great for the guy in front of me at the launch.
Mister G Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 As opposed to the Chevy owners who NEED built in WiFi in their vehicals???? No, I hope those simpletons get it too......
manitoubass2 Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Actually Rick, Lew o'clock came about 4 hours ago I was up then too lol. Sittin outside getting eaten by mosquitos
lew Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Come on guys....embrace technology. Just look at our gps graphs! Big difference between a GPS for navigation and a machine to back your trailer up because you don't know how. Course that's just my opinion.
lew Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 I was up then too lol. Sittin outside getting eaten by mosquitos At least you weren't getting eaten by that pesky badger LOL
manitoubass2 Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 To anyone that cant back up a trailer. Please enter a fishing tourny????
BillM Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 If you need a computer in your truck to back up your trailer for you because you can't do it yourself, you shouldn't be towing a trailer. Yup.
DanD Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 If you need a computer in your truck to back up your trailer for you because you can't do it yourself, you shouldn't be towing a trailer. I would have normally agreed with this Lew; I've been backing up trailers since I was a kid on the farm and rarely ever have a problem. That's until I bought this short wheel based (ball coupler to axle) trailer; it's like tiring to get a football to roll strait. I'm slowly getting use to it; but slightest turn of the steering wheel and the trailer reacts twice as much. Dan.
lew Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Your 100% correct Dan, the shorter the trailer the harder it is to back up. Wonder if this gizmo would be able to do it better.
DanD Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 No Idea if it could or not; I'll just keep on practicing with the old Chevy. LOL Dan
blaque Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 No thanks.......Half the fun of trailing around the boat is showing off my back-up skills lol
Entropy Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Not good. Just think of what will happen in tight locations. The amount of body work that will need to be done after will sky rocket! Guys will have their head down on the screen and knob, and not watch the corners of their truck. Hope it comes with a backup beeper! ... so I can get the heck out of the way. Entropy
manitoubass2 Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 At least you weren't getting eaten by that pesky badger LOL I missed this??? True enough
John Bacon Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 I have no problem backing up but this does look pretty cool. Come on guys....embrace technology. Just look at our gps graphs! Hmmm, if the launch ramps are stored in the GPS then perhaps the truck can back it in all by itself... just hope nobody is standing in the way.
