highdrifter Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 here is me beeing stupid and missing a BIG fish.... i didint see it and i forgot that i was fishing in 6 FOW! with the head shakes im thinking a big pike BUT theres big walleye and musky in there.... what do you guys think it was? Was that the Ottawa Riva?? I'm thinking prolly a northern.. or maby a politican turned into some x-files creature!! Next time, get closer to the hole, point your rod tip down and let the fish run boy!
fishindevil Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Well based on the fact you were in a bay off the river, and you already caught one i would say a nice big P-I-K-E !!!!! ...but you never know, could have been a legendary ottawa river CATFISH !!! too bad you lost hime,he was big for sure, youll get him next time.... .
Fishing 24/7 Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 BTW i was jigging with a 1/4 once jig head tiped with a white single talied mister twister . medium size..........
Fishing 24/7 Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 was it caught last year yes it was caught late winter last year !
Twocoda Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 thats why the sport isnt called " catching" better luck next time ...camera guy should have kept the camera on your face to see the expression when it went "gone"
Leecher Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Good old Lac Leamy.... Kev, not being able to see you land it is pretty hard to tell but from the rod action, I'd say a big pike or musky for sure Too bad the line snapped but like Highdrifter said, next time keep the rod tip down closer to the hole, that way you'll have a better chance of fighting it and may be land it
joco Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 (edited) IT WAS A PERCH.......big PERCH... MUST HAVE BEEN A NICE PIKE OR MUSKY..I DONT THINK A WALLEYE. BUT SHER WAS A NICE FISH. like jaque said..next time keep the rod tip down closer to the hole, that way you'll have a better chance of fighting it and may be land it thumbsup_anim.gif .... closer and try to keep the line in the middle off the hole. joco Edited December 31, 2008 by joco
DRIFTER_016 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 a politican turned into some x-files creature!! I would say El Chupacabra by the looks of things.
richyb Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 GREAT WHITE !!!!!!!! nah maybe not but i would bet money on a pike.... I have seen a 5 pounder pull that hard on light tackle
forrest Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I think it was a world record Sunfish....that record would have lasted a thousand years if you pulled it in!
irishfield Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Next time treat it like a Musky going under the boat.... rod tip IN the water..down the hole.
glen Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Maybe it was a carp. The best fight i saw though the ice last year was a carp.
Fishing 24/7 Posted January 1, 2009 Author Report Posted January 1, 2009 Maybe it was a carp. The best fight i saw though the ice last year was a carp. thats odd i didnt think carp were active during the winter!
Rizzo Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 head shakes like that I'd have to say musky. Like Wayne said, stick that rod as far down the hole as you can to keep the line off the ice. Makes for a far less interesting video but odds are you land a nice fish
Handlebarz Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Well its been said here many time but i will say it again rod goes into the water if the fish is running like that you would be surprised at how sharp the ice is around a hole and will nick or cut the line in a hear beat that is why when we use tip ups we will hold the line over to the side away from the running fish. Good luck this season maybe you can meet up wit hher again.
Guest gbfisher Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 be the last time you fight a fish like that............ Next time,
ehg Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 I think you lost a pike or musky when it's teeth cut the line. Cool video anyways!
irishfield Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 That's not a miss......lol Yah.. at least Dano caught the ice after his "miss". lmao !
chickenhawk Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 your all wrong.....it was a sea bass!
Whitespinnerbait Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Well folks,,, I was the camerman I'm guessing 5lb Gator.. His mistake was trying to horse it in..
chickenhawk Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 nope.....sea bass.....i'm stickin with it lol
Fishing 24/7 Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 (edited) Well folks,,, I was the camerman I'm guessing 5lb Gator.. His mistake was trying to horse it in.. befor saying i was ''horsing'' it in try catching your first fish on a jigging rod. only them i will listen to your advice. thanx. bye. this was my first big fish. can you blame me ??? i was jigging in 6 FOW no leader... the fish didnt cut the line @ the end of the video you cant see the part where my jig hits me right in the face! like you guys are saying i shoulda put my tip in the water when he was close. the reason why i lost him he hit his head on the side of the hole!
