  1. With the suns light reflecting off the moon and then being captured through your lens over a 25 second period it must be bending through your camera lenses or the atmosphere. The light is originating from the moon and having many things that will bend it through that time. Great pictures there anyways. ehg
  2. Once in my early teens i was on the beach in Oshawa watching a storm approaching from the west. Watched the blackness approaching and counted the seconds between flash and thunder and guessed the brunt of storm was a mile away still. Suddenly there was a deafening crack as some lightening struck the beach 30 feet away from me. I was looking at area where it hit and saw a bunch of sand get kicked around. Went and looked at spot and the lightening left a figure eight about 3 inches deep and a little over foot long. A few times fishing i've had braided line rise off water and graphite rods buzz and great fishing at the same time. Pretty scary stuff however. ehg
  3. Was marking fish in 10-15 ft. of water no matter what the depth. Decided on this lure since i planned on trolling by humps and reefs topping out at 12 ft. and didn't want to mess around with weeds or other snags. Luckily, caught this off structure. It's a nice fish for sure. Fished the north part of Pigeon since i was a wee lad, my favorite place in the world! cheers, ehg
  4. Exactly what i was going to say first the huge fat pike, now this massive perch! Great report, ehg
  5. I think MJL is correct that is a quillback. A very rarely caught fish in Ontario related closer to suckers than carp. Considered a carnivore feeding on insects not vegetation. That is its average size, they aren't big. Cool fish, ehg
  6. Thanks for replies! Probably caught a couple of dozen 1-2 lb bass mostly once the angle of sun was lessening. It was so sunny and hot out there yesterday it felt like we were in a microwave. Didn't get to lake till about 10:30 am so we fished mostly in the heat and sun. Caught the musky about 2:00 in the afternoon after the bass shut down a little, went off the lake after that fish to get out of sun for an hour or two. The bass were mostly caught in the late afternoon and evening. It was almost a fish a cast as the sun was setting. Personally i've done this enough to notice a higher feeding activity, probably from full moon phase. cheers, ehg
  7. Those are some big cats! Youse are lucky down there to get a freshwater species so big that 10 lbers are considered dinks. Thanks for posting, ehg
  8. Some decent sized largemouth there. You're right it was a bake zone out there in the afternoon, think the bass went into hiding from the sun and heat. Nice report, ehg
  9. Nice to have a family fishing vacation on Buckhorn, too bad about the weather at least you caught some fish. I've noticed more bass of a smaller size up that way as well. Four or five lb. fish are less common last few years for sure. Great report, ehg
  10. Hi, went up to Pigeon Lake with buddy Dave to try a some fishing and had a decent day. Nearly stepped on this when we arrived at spot. Nice little green snake. We went up thinking we would troll for muskies and stick with that, but that didn't last long. Seemed that bass were hitting topwaters so we did that mostly. (like always) Ended up catching many largies but nothing big. Even caught alot of similar sized smallmouth. The ever popular rock bass was also hitting topwaters The basses were hitting topwaters even around lilypads in slop but i found it hard to get hookset with the weedless frogs and missed a few nice fish in that stuff. Did end up doing a musky troll for a bit and tried around deep structure in main basin. For some reason i put on a perch shallow raider for a deep water troll, and ended up catching a musky on it while over 55' of water. The musky fought well and jumped numerous times near the boat It measured a bit over 46 inches. Of course the release Forgot to get team entry sign in a picture from too much mayhem and excitement from musky. Turned out to be a better day than usual, i think due to full moon effects, as the fish were on here for us. cheers, ehg
  11. Nice job on the report. I like the honest approach letting us know that even seasoned fishermen can have tough days. Thanks for sharing, ehg
  12. Dalrymple has two parts. Upper Dalrymple(south part) and Lower Dalrymple(north part) there was a launch right in the middle of two parts, but i haven't been there fora few years. Was tons of pike, some decent bass, odd walleye and big panfish back then. Shouldn't be hard to find a launch it's a smallish lake. Good Luck, ehg
  13. Became hooked on fishing when i was about 8 yrs. old when i caught a brook trout in Duffins Creek. After catching a few suckers on worms suddenly this amazing beautiful creature bit the worm; that brookie changed my life. A couple of years later my family moved to Oshawa right across from the Oshawa Creek. Steelhead and salmon were starting to take off in the stream then and again i was hooked. At the same time my father bought a nice trailer and put it up at Pigeon Lake so now as a pre teen i was catching walleye and bass all summer, and trout/ salmon in fall and spring. Gave up on the steelheading as it became to crowded, but still fish brookies and go to Pigeon 25 yrs. later. When i fish it's all i'm focused on, it feels right and crushes the usual time-space continuum. ehg
  14. After those reports from Scugog with the great musky and bass catching a couple of weekends ago, of course you'll be disappointed . But catching a PB walleye and those others ain't too shabby either. Great report and pictures again, ehg
  15. Looks like youse have done well with the muskies the last few weekends. I'll have to try the larger baits in deeper waters next time i'm there. First i'll have to put the bass topwaters and spinnerbaits away.lol Nice going, ehg
  16. Wow he looks so happy He gonna be your best fishing buddy, especially after that nice bass. Real great stuff! ehg
  17. Nice of you to write an introduction with a couple of pictures. People around here seem to like pictures Lots of information to be found here if your re-introducing yourself to fishing. Good intro, ehg
  18. That's a healthy, clean pike there. Not a mark on it, still has perfect fins, etc... Not bad for being caught within the shadow of metropolis.(Toronto) Great fish and report, ehg
  19. I was thinking the samething. Great report!
  20. That video is a pretty good fake re- enactment. If it even really happened, but
  21. That is kinda odd that they co-exist there. Any tiger musky ever caught there? Have read in the past that musky will spawn a little deeper and later in season than pike, on lakes studied where they co-exist. Balsam is deep enough and big enough for muskies to find spawning habitat away from pike if that's the way. Let's hope nature keeps us happy in Kawarthas as well. ehg
  22. Those tiger musky are super fine looking fish, hopefully they are predominant over the pike, the muskies at least seem to be holding on in Balsam so far. Sounds like this has been going on for a bit anyways.
