  1. Thought i'd try this bait for the plethora of 30-40 inch musky on Kawarthas. The bait is same size as Super Shad Rap which has done well for me for these little Kawartha muskies. BricknBlock i change the splitrings on most Rapala lures as well, had splitring issues with them in past. The lack of positive replies continues the lack of confidence in this lure. I'll stick with black/ silver bucktail at opener i guess. ehg
  2. I haven't noticed but i did ask for info on lures as such so i wouldn't waste hard earned money. I've noticed people get 'guerilla- marketed' into buying big ticket items like Lund SSV- 16's or Mercury outboards however.
  3. Hey thanks Bill, Thought that it would sit unused in my tackle box as well. Looks good, but judging by lack of replies it must be crap. Won't waste time or 12 dollars on this i guess. ehg
  4. Probably caught most of my Kawartha muskies on perch SuperShad Rap casting or trolling. These newer X-Rap jointed shads are the same size but look shallower and they suspend, etc... I have no confidence in them yet despite there shiny, jointedness. Looks pretty good but has anyone caught any muskies on them? Thanks, ehg
  5. You are right brookie fishing is great. They are fine little scrappers and the odd one i ate was super fine. Don't have to lug much just a few spinners and refreshments. If they are stocked the flesh is lighter in colour. Had to use the Panther Martin #4 on larger waters.(Saugeen, parts of ganny, etc...) Nice fish, ehg
  6. A large mid lake reef 5-12 ft deep with some weeds, surrounded by much deeper water. These always have musky or bass during the summer in the Kawarthas. Casting bass topwaters or musky bucktails around these areas can produce.
  7. Ha Ha! Thats pretty funny I thought this was a post about dead muskies. The main thing is that the fish excrement is 'organic'
  8. I would make sure that you have a friend or two to help you with this. I've car topped a 12 fter on minivans many times with troubles now and then. Haven't had a mishap but had ropes or straps snap. Luckily pulled over and had replacements. A 14 fter could be more cumbersome. Ratchet it down with heaviest, longest strap from crappy tire. The biggest, widest pool noodles sliced to fit along edge of boat is best. Get a trailer asap, a 14 fter. is too big for cartopping. Good luck, ehg
  9. Caught many musky on bass topwaters in Kawarthas, as soon as put larger versions of same lures on musky gear, i have landed no fish. Gotten many exciting strikes and fought some fish briefly but have zero hooking percentage. Had the most strikes on Dancin' Raider anyways. Good luck, ehg
  10. That is an award winning photo! Thanks for sharing this awesome story and pics.
  11. That's sounds like a messy but super day of catching, 13 to 14 landed is pretty good. Thanks for report. ehg
  12. Nice job on the pictures! Looks like even the Simcoe trip was an urban adventure. One bad stumble where those pike were caught, could leave you impaled on rusty steel. Those Simcoe whiteys must be thick in there or they flock to the lure, resulting in the unintentional/intentional snagging. Looks like an interesting beauty weekend. cheers, ehg

    hey all..

Welcome! Nice pile of year round species cheers, ehg
  14. Zebra mussels haven't been as detrimental as was feared. Improved the bass and musky fishing in Kawarthas due to them being sight feeders. Looks like they are almost crediting them with Simcoes improved fisheries. The zebra mussels have put the walleyes in the weeds on Quinte, Kawarthas etc due to more light however. ehg
  15. Thats a nice mix of fish from down south there. Congrats on what looks like a successful and pleasant day. Just tried tinned sardines (in spring water) about a year ago, for Omega-3's. Now i'm practically addicted to this cheap, yummy food. Good choice on lunch food! lol ehg
  16. That's not a bad sized brookie. Hopefully it was good eating. I've caught stocked brookies in tribs and they had a lighter flesh and were in a more stagnant enviroment. The wild or native fish usually have a redder flesh from colder habitat and the resultant diet. The best fish i ever ate was a 2lb 'resident brown' that was fatal hooked so kept. Probably best 'pound for pound' fight i've had from that fish as well. Thats what gives trout all the glory, best fighters and best tasting.
  17. Nice post! Was under the impression that it was more barren and Arctic like up that way. We haven't had t-shirt and shorts weather down in S. Ontario yet. Nice work on the hobbies. ehg
  18. Bump! For the one in a billion odd fish caught here. Congrats again.
  19. Wow, what a great multitude of species! Pike, crappie, channel cats and Buffalo what a mixed bag. Bigmouth Buffalo in an Ontario fishing report, thats uncommon.
  20. Looks like a good time was had by all. Hope my daughter will be such a trooper when she gets to that age. Nice brook trout and pictures. Thanks for sharing the story. ehg
  21. Thats some nice looking yellow morels. Usually i'll find morels in last week of April or first week of May, i think they are a couple weeks behind even here, i'll go take a look outside Toronto might still be some with this cool wet weather. That's good food and 'organic' as well. ehg
  22. Looks like a great weekend for them lucky kids. Who cares about the weather when your up in that area. Thanks for the report. ehg
  23. Cool a white perch, apparently they are quite tasty. I haven't seen one posted since you posted one from there last year! Great looking trip and thanks for report. ehg
  24. Well its been three weeks since i've stopped smoking cigarettes. One of the main reasons was reading through this thread. Instead of having a cigarette i did something else initially, already my physical habits have changed. Looked at the side of cigarette pack saw measurements of benzene, formaldahyde, carbon dioxide etc...read in an article that the radioactive materials in cigarettes keep you addicted. I'm not giving my money to evil cigarette companies. Great post and congrats to all that stopped this evil habit. Thanks very much for this post, ehg
