Well it's always wise to get your guides as true as possible but as for having a them slightly off making a big difference in casting, I suspect not. Most factory rods I've seen could do a lot more to ensure the guides are straight. Also popular these days are spiral wrapped rods (bait casting) and I've never had any complaints about them affecting casting.

That would be the first thing I would check and likely the cheapest fix, then go from there.

Oh ya, I also have couple I use in conjunction with a chumming can.

Cut the rod off just in front of the fore grip of several old rods, glue them into a decorative wood plaque, spaced far enough apart to display old reels. Hang it up in your man cave. Old butt sections can also be used as a curtain rod in the man cave, guides removed of course.

Very generous of you RC. I have dozens of them here I've collected over the years. Reels seats may be salvageable if they are of decent quality but the cork sadly is pretty much scrap.
