Please Help Grimsby Tackle So That They Can Help You!
grimsbylander replied to SLA's topic in General Discussion
Wow. That's the great thing about a forum. You get to post crap you are only speculating about. No need to worry about making sure sure it's true. Nope...just put a stupid whistling face beside whatever you type and that makes it ok. Then paste up words like "LATE PAYMENT"... nice. You got bad service somewhere? Go ahead and say so, it's real. This is ridiculous. This is a man's business...his livelihood. If you don't want to support the cause because you THINK it's not valid, fine. Go speculate on you own finances and shut to hell up. And btw, I have nothing to do with Grimsby Tackle. In fact, they will have no idea who I am if they read this thread. The admin guys can hammer me for this one, I don't care. -
This is all very good news. The bass regulation change makes my wonder a bit...the Ministry stated the change due to warmer climate trends. Hawkesbury = yes...Windsor = no. And does Lake Ontario warm quicker than Erie?? I'm no biologist so I know I'm missing something. Great update regarding the rainbows for sure.

I used to catch huge smallies on plastic worms and spinnerbaits around the pencil weed. Mind you that was 12 years ago.

I always use the lanyard. Even though I'm in a bass boat now and use it, I can say that I also used it when in my old tinny too. Actually, I think it was just as important in my small boat. That boat was easier to get knocked around in and the motor would turn hard right turn if you let go for more than a few seconds. I guess I just got in the habit of wearing it and now it's like a seatbelt...I don't even think about it.

I'm looking to get equipped for some I've fishing this winter and noticed CT has huts, sleds, etc in their flyer. For a guy looking to hit Simcoe a few times over the course of a winter is that stuff ok? I don't need the best but I never buy the cheapest.

I'm betting the ice is thin...it's not cold enough for Max to do up his pants yet! -
That nicely sums up the frustration a lot of people experience. Well done.

My deepest condolances for your loss Bob.

I wish one company was truly that much better than the rest...at least deciding on a vehicle would be easier. I am most likely going to buy a used truck as early as tomorrow and the more I look and read, the more confusing it gets. I had a Toyota 4Runner I bought new back in 1989 and drove it for 16 years before I sold it and the guy drove it away! I bought two Fords in the last 8 years as a feble attempt to buy domestic. One was a Windstar and the one I have now in an Explorer. Need I say more? The reality is though that my experience with Toyota or the Fords has zero impact on what the next Toyota or Ford would be like if I bought one. So I'm back at square one and I have to "best guess" what I buy next. Tomorrow I'm going to look at a 2009 GMC Sierra SLT Crew with a 5.3 Ltr. Good? bad? Who the hell knows...All I know is spending 20-30 grand and hoping its not crap sucks. -
It all comes down to education and experience. I have a 20ft Ranger and spend 90% of my time on Erie. I been caught out in 5+'s and would not dream of owning another boat. For battling big water waves, other than the fiberglass walleye style fishing boats, I choose my Ranger.

When I fish a cold front, I do a few things different. Slowing down is good but that's only part of it. I generally abandon horizontal presentations and fish vertically. This forces me to pin point structure and fish it slower. I also move out slightly deeper and start searching for active fish. Deeper fish seem to be lest affected by fronts. I will scale down the size of my baits but not right away. I let the fish decide that...I still think bigger fish prefer(usually)larger baits. If I'm marking fish but can't get them to go, I'll downsize. I will also look for water with close access to much deeper water. When the fall rolls around and the water naturally cools, I upsize my baits. Bigger worms, spinnerbaits and body baits. Darker colours seem to work much better for me though I can't say way. I still slow the baits down slightly compared to the warm summer bite. The fall feedbag is awesome!

LOL you gotta love that! Take her fishing and have a great time! Good luck.

I'd start with a glass or two of wine, maybe some soft music...

My 2 cents...seats are 100% structural. The side walls will flex and vibrate under motor load especially when breaking waves. Now as far as the trolling motor setup, spend a few bucks on wire ( 6 gauge I think) and mount the battery at the very back. Add a inexpensive MinnKota quick disconnect up on the bow for your electric. Having a fuel tank up front is great for weight distribution but batteries not so much. They don't like the jarring effect from pounding waves.

Interesting Skipper. I read a few negative comments about Carlisle but you never know how people treat their stuff. Are you using commercial tires? I'm looking for ST215/75-14. Thanks! Oh and btw, the Carlisle's are about $125 vs Hercules at $105.

I have to replace 4 tires on my boat trailer after I had one separate down to the belts on Sunday. Any tips on where to buy and brand? I've read too many times about the poor quality of the Goodyear Marathons now. Ideas?

Beautiful place! That beach looks like Gulligan's Island!!

I don't think sheephead are hurting Lake Erie bass or walleye. I was out alone yesterday and boated 15+ smallies and one sheephead...in 2 1/2 hours. If the numbers were reversed it would be an issue! And that sheephead was a welcome battle too! It's that first 10 seconds when you're thinking you're got that 7lb smallie!!

Too bad for the short notice. I've got my boat hooked up and heading for Crystal Beach....alone. Dang. -
I'm thinking it's self inflicted wounds from a common walleye suicide attempt. All those years off living in fear of being eaten by a vicious predator and hiding out in dark thick weeds must be depressing. Only to end up on the end of a stringer facing certain death and a stick of melted butter. Just saying...

I keep picturing the hot peppers scene from Dumb and Dumber!

The thing that drives me absolutely nuts is seeing employees(even owners) at fishing stores getting arrogant and condescending with customers. The day Kevin VanDam is behind the counter selling me a pack of freaking hooks I'll accept it. I was in the infamous Hamilton fishing woXXX...store this year and saw it with two teenage boys. I walked over after the jerk was finished making them feel like he invented the fishing rod and helped them pick out basic plastics for smallmouth. The opposite of that is Martin at Grimsby Tackle. He's a down to earth guy who tries to respectfully help everyone with no pressure or intimidation. This concludes my rant for today.

I go the the Pennsylvania Cabelas everytime I'm down that way. It's an amazing place to visit. The only problem is I always know exactly what I want as I'm walking in and then get completely overwhelmed gawking at things and half way home remember what I went for.

I'll thank you too. I was thinking the same things before vtbass posted. There is another site I frequent that guys are always posting recipes they are doing on their BGE BBQ's and they sound great. Aparently, they hold these BGE demos in various locations arounf the province and you can buy the demo units at a reduction.
