  1. Amazing. Down here in the banana belt we're whining because we've had flurries with no accumulation! LOL I've known a guy for years that grew up in Manitouwadge...he told me the fishing was great and your pike confirmed it. Very nice!
  2. I generally don't mind most of the shows. I tune out the marketing side and try to enjoy the fish and the scenery. What DOES drive me nuts is when a show insults what fishing intelligence I do have. You have a new plastic bait you want to push? Great. Don't do it on Lake Beauchene and spend 30 mins telling me the success rate is all about the bait. Last week we had a guy in northern Saskachewan casting a spoon for pike and shamelessly pushing how amazing the spoon was. Really? Tie on a 40 year old red devil, the results will be the same. We're not marine biologists but we're far from stupid. If they want to shoot shows there, I get it. Lots of fish = good show. But giving ALL the credit to the marketing subject of the day is irritating.
  3. I just picked up a Platinum+ card but haven't had a chance to use it yet. That is the chip I was advised to buy for my style of fishing and where I fish. If you do decide to change cards, please let me know. I need another card and the fish n chip would suit me ok.
  4. El Dorado rum served neat, with a Guinness.
  5. The trolling motors ability to go through weeds is based on the prop design, not the motor that's spinning it. I think MK has a better weed prop than MG. I've got a 105lb 36V MG with the 3 blade machete and its lousy in some weed types. It's awesome though for powering along in deeper, weed free water such as Erie where I fish most of the time. I know someone who modified the two blade MK to fit his MG...another option. As far as the 12V upgrade goes, find a spot for another battery. The power difference and battery life will shock you.
  6. Sail by Awolnation. Great tune. Beat out by the dreaded Kickingfrog!! LOL
  7. Great post! That was a fisherman's 50 shades of grey!!!
  8. Hey Chris just wanted to thank you for fixing up my rod I shortened accidentally last fall. Great meeting you and spending an hour learning and seeing some of your craftsmanship. If anyone is wondering, those pictures don't do the rods justice. They're even more beautiful in person and feel amazing in your hand. Thanks again!! Dave
  9. Definition of sport noun 1an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment: team sports such as soccer and rugby [mass noun]: I used to play a lot of sport (as modifier sports) a sports centre (sports) British an occasion on which people compete in various athletic activities: I won the 200 metres in the school sports [mass noun, usually with adjective] success or pleasure derived from an activity such as hunting or fishing: I have heard there is good sport to be had in Buttermere. I don't see how someone can say what is and is not a "sport" without having performed the event at an elite level. Is the decision based on how much exertion is required? Such as hockey? Soccer? or like sailing or curling? Maybe it's technical skills that curling and sailing require? Vast knowledge is required on both these areas to be among the elite. But if I look at the elite bass tourney fisherman I see similar traits. Countless hours of learning and practice, long hours on the water during the tournaments and prefishing, punishing days of rain, snow, wind and heat, the unpredictable elements of water, wind and fish. Does that make it a sport? To each their own.
  10. Beautiful craftsmanship!
  11. Hey Bryan, saw you commented on this post and just had to look! I knew you'd have those hawgs posted!! Crazy impressive! Let's do the early season smallies this year!
  12. I fail to see the humour in this. Next time we have to defend our position as fisherman, outdoorsmen and conservationists, let's just tell jokes about illegally killing animals and leaving them to waste. Yeah, that'll swing the vote our way.
  13. It's got to be a challenge trying to be informative, entertaining, diversified, and likeable while satisfying the people writing your cheques as well as the people watching. It's a good problem to have I guess. I can't say I like or dislike any of them. I watch a show based solely on the criteria of "does it interest me?". I have favorite hosts that bug me sometimes too. Showing me how terrific a certain jig catches 2lb walleye on a fly-in lake doesn't excite or convince me of it's worth. But hey, that's just me and maybe only me.
  14. That is an awesome looking cake. Did she hide a couple toothpicks inside to make it even more realistic? Found a bone!!
  15. I had an early 80's 14" Crestliner that had a 35hp Merc on it. That boat was deep, wide and relatively heavy...oh, and fast. It was actually rated for a 30hp but had the 35hp when I bought it. I can tell you that it never felt "squirrelly". It tracked great at WOT and cornered normally. Not to say that it's ok to overrate a boat though. If you every had an accident, regardless of the reason, some other persons lawyer would eat you alive. If I was buying a new boat or upgrading a motor, I'd simply max out the spec for that particular boat.
  16. I used to use a company in Buffalo that does that but found a better way. I just get my packages shipped UPS to Niagara Falls. If you're interested, pm me and I'll show you how it's done.
  17. Congrats on an awesome pike! That fish must have been a sight coming through the hole teeth first.
  18. How that fish eluded St. Clair musky is a miracle! Fat and bright orange are a bad combination.
  19. Thanks Kemper. pm sent
  20. Well I've got a 7.0' Quantum Superlite PT rod that I shortened by an inch or so. I'm hoping that I can take it somewhere and get the second line guide removed and add a tip guide. I was rushing around before work one morning trying to get some rods and tackle ready for a last minute outing for my son. What a way to start the day. Does anyone know someone in the St. Catharines to Oakville region that can do this?
  21. Yeah that title was so offensive. LOL Read any forum related to hockey as a comparison.
  22. My deepest condolences Jacques.

  23. It's a three stage process: Morning - baileys and coffee Mid-day - Glenfiddich or Forty Creek on ice. Evening - El Dorado rum - neat, with a Guiness or Kilkennys! That's a holly jolly Christmas!!
  24. I had read that Interstate batteries weren't so great but I've had very good luck with them. I have four on my boat...one cranking and the others deep cycle. I'm on the 36V electric all day on Erie and when in the river it's even more demanding due to the current. I just plug in the on-board charger and check levels every couple weeks.
  25. The police are staking out egg farms and pancake mix factories just to be safe.
