  1. Wow...this is very sad news. The truth of the matter is I grew up on that lake back in the 70's. We lived in a small winterized cottage over near the lodges by the causeway. Back then, believe it or not, there were no largemouth in the lake. I spent a million hours as a boy fishing off the causeway bridge for rainbows, specks and the occasional brown. Other than a boat load of rock bass, it was a pure trout lake. There was an area known to the locals as the traps...this is where the Beaver river entered the lake. It was a log jammed maze that lead into the river accessable only by canoe. This was the holy grail of trout fishing at the time. I'll hang on the these memories and not go. Dave
  2. Wondering if anyone from the group has fished Eugenia over the last couple years. I was there once maybe 10 years ago and wanted to know if it's worth another visit. I heard it has become a pretty good largemouth lake... Dave
  3. There is a guy in Grimsby that does reel repair though I've never had to use him, until now. I have a baitcaster with a faulty drag. I was told I can drop my reel off at Grimsby Tackle on hwy 8. Dave
  4. That's a good point. It is possible that government duties drive up costs to the suppliers who in turn have no choice but to pass it along. Makes sense. We all get that it's a different country and I don't think anyone should expect the prices to be the same. It just appears the gap may be larger than it should be...maybe not. BTW, regular price on Yum was $3 and no the PowerPro was not on sale. These two items mean nothing in the scheme of things, they were just two examples I happened to look at that day. I guess the same could be said for gas and beer!
  5. It's obvious that Canadian retailers cannot compete with US retailers...the question is why. Assume that everything is made in China therefore no manufacturing advantage either way...shipping to Canada and US from China - same. Our currencies are at par...Hmmm. What's different? Market share?? Yes, if we say that the US has 300 million people vs Canada's 40 million, BUT, if nothing or very little is manufactured here then it's simply a North American market of 340 million! I think the companies have us well trained. The company I work for reduced the labour workforce here in Hamilton by 80% and shifted the manufacturing to eastern Europe. Costs to manufacture were reduced by more than 50%...the amount we decreased our prices? Zero. Charge what the market will bear. I cannot believe that Walmart USA buys Berkley products cheaper than Walmart Canada. Why would Walmart surrender their buying power in Canada? I'm speculating of course. I gave myself a Blah, Blah for rambling! Dave
  6. Nice pictures...I grew up near Flesherton, not too far from your area, and spent hours fishing the tiny blue line creeks for specks. Great job! Dave
  7. I ended up in Niagara Falls NY on the weekend and had time to wander around the fishing sections of a few stores(translate; wife was shopping ). Now let me say I am a great believer in supporting your local economy and will continue to, however, it actually ticked me off to see essential items like line(brand name braided and flouro), terminal tackle, plastics at 50-70% less than the exact product here. How can Yum plastics be on sale for $1.96/bag?? PowerPro $12 and change? And, yes I bought 4 bags of the plastics...and actually feel guilty for some damn reason. What's the general concensus on this??? Dave
  8. Thanks everyone. Have a great weekend and lets see those fish pics!!!!
  9. Last year I was rod shopping and got talked into spending an extra $20 from the rod I was looking at to a Compre...just for the warranty. Well, my son "shortened" it by 6" this spring hacking around through the trees at 40 creek. Got it replaced no questions asked...and no, he can't use it now! Dave
  10. I'm not sure we could afford it with the taxes in Grimsby... Ouch!
  11. Through the hull is always the cleanest way. Years ago my father made a bracket up for a small boat we used on a log filled lake. It was a T shape contraption that clamped along the gunnel and hung down. The nifty part was he added a spring the leading edge of it so if we hit a log or beached the boat, the transducer lay back without harm. I hadn't thought of that in years...good luck. Dave
  12. Hi there, I'm a newbie here on your community site and just wanted to say hello. I have been reading through some of the earlier posts and you all seem to be a friendly and at times very comical bunch! Good luck to everyone heading north this weekend to Nippising...I'm green with envy. I'm hoping to get some time on Sunday to fish the Upper Niagara, US side. Stay safe. Dave
