  1. That lake can get ugly really fast! Hoping for a positive outcome... HH
  2. That bird would cook up nice with some curry and a can of coconut milk! After about 4 hours of stewing, some slaw and rice and peas and your golden! HH
  3. We had our toughest day yet this year on Sunday out of Frenchmans. One Coho and one Steelie and a number of shakers was all we netted Sunday morning. We did have a number of knock offs, but couldn't seem to get the fish to hold the bait/get a good hook set. 200 to 300 ft of water seemed to be the most productive... HH
  4. I agree with the others, slow down and get one of these... http://www.amazon.com/Precision-Trolling-The-Trollers-Bible/dp/0966301722 Also, finding 60 ft of water has helped in the past as well... and don't forget to try orange coloured blades as well! HH
  5. Creek Chub Pikie perhaps? HH
  6. Nice job Cliff! unfortunately for you, your cousin now knows the stigma of the Cliff stripe! LOL Might be some time before you get a second call! LMAO! HH
  7. Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner here... couldn't agree more! I have no idea what happened on that street car, but I do hope that we actually find out, eventually. HH
  8. A buddy of mine is somewhat of a "rebel" for lack of a better term. He refused to pay for the plate sticker claiming that it was a reduculous cost. Ran his company vehicle for four years before he was pulled over for not having a valid license plate sticker. The fine at the time was around $120.00. He figured that he was ahead by well over four hundred before the fine. I don't believe he has a plate sticker on his curent vehicle either.... HH
  9. If you are bringing your kids as indicated, check out Providence Bay Beach... one of the nicest beaches anywhere! Great place to spend a day with the family and score big points with she who will be obeyed... Sorry, can't help yah re the fishing, I have only fished the far western part of the island. HH
  10. Just some aside info for yah... if your vehicle is older than 1999, then a check engine light will not fail the test. The vehicle is subjected to the old test and can pass that as long as it meets the old requirements. Vehilce "newer" than 1999 has to be put through the "new" test. One of the (OK, only!) advantages of owning an older vehicle. HH
  11. This^! The only advantage in my experience that Okuma has, is the large handle. It's easier to crank. I have to admit, that I am a Sealine bigot! I have not had a failure with my Diawa's and I have used them for Pickereyes and Lake O trolling. They are bullet proof. Maybe my Okuma experience is unique, but mine seem to realy dislike a lot of tension on a troll, ie planer boards. My anit-reverse has been hit or miss since the day I first used it. For an extra 20-30 bucks, you can get a Sealine and know that you have a reel that will last a life time. Just my 2 cents. HH
  12. X100... well said Twocoda! HH
  13. There's a reason that some friends I know carry a wrist rocket sling shot in their boat... just sayin. Feel really bad for yah Simon, that's never fun. HH
  14. Such beautiful wood... thanks for posting the pics! As much as today's boats have their advantages, the look of all that wood and the craftmanship required to build it and restore it are something I can only admire. Bernie posted a "mod" for those boats that includes a steam engine to drive it... was very cool as well! HH
  15. Excellent ideas so far guys, thanks for spreading your expertise! One of my families favorite things falls into the same sort of things as breaded perch... breaded cauliflower! Cut it down into individual floret’s (sp) and then wash the cauliflower, leaving some moisture on them. Season with salt (Kosher), pepper and garlic powder and let sit for an hour or two. Bread them with, flour, egg wash, then your choice of bread crumbs, we like Panko. Brown them in hot oil, then place them in a 325 degree oven for 20-30 minutes to ensure that they are cooked through. Sprinkle with salt before serving. We use this recipe as a side dish for many meals; especially roast beef and mushroom gravy... They Are Awesome! Enjoy... HH
  16. Hey Pete, I was up in that area from July 13-20th of this year. That was the week of the heat wave and fishing was tough all week, except the thursday, when the front went through. We stayed at Moonlight Bay Cottages, just outside of Alban, which is only a few KM's from where your going. Smallies seemed to be the only fish willing to cooperate consistantly. Water levels were at their norm for this time of year. The deer flys were murder during the day and the usual skitters and black flies as evening arrived. Our week turned into more of a family vacation, then a fishing trip. The heat was too much, even early in the day. We did have a blast and plan on going again next year, but it wouldn't be my first choice for a fishing destination. HH
  17. Where are the trophy pike pics?!!!!! LOL Great shots and great fish... thanks for posting! HH
  18. I would almost agree, except there were no bees in the video and I don't think the guy lost a tooth either... just sayin. Randy has this guy beat hands down! HH
  19. Thanks for the reply Drew... Fogat Live was the album that caught my attention, which of course meant getting all their others as well! Figured a fish of that size would have to put up a good account of itself. BAck in London in my youth, we would target them using either floating jointed Raps or loading up a treble hook with pin head minnows and hanging that about 6 inches below a float. We could watch them feeding on schools of bait, their snouts popping out on the water's surface and cast the bait a close as possible. Many a frustrating time keeping them hooked, that's when we started to use the treble/minnow combo. They did get airborn from time to time giving us a first hand look at how they toss your bait back to you! I wish we had come across some bigger fish like yours, but even the small ones are quite interesting to get up close and personal with. Thanks again Drew, awesome post!! HH
  20. I thought it looked more like Terry, until I saw that he did catch a fish! HH
  21. Hey Bunk, fantastic report and pics! Got a question for yah... In my youth, growing up in London, we used to catch many a gar at the Springbank Dam, but none in the sizes you are catching. Mostly 24 inches or less and never did I spot anything bigger. Those small gar simply didn't have a chance to fight, or couldn't. Once we got their nose in the air, they were just motorboated in. Fun way to pass some time and have some action, but not really any kind of "sport". Curious as to how those obviously bigger gar scrap... Thanks, HH
  22. I haven't fished it myself, but my brother has a bud who has a family cottage on it and he fishes it a couple of times a year. According to him, a jig and a minnow will keep the fish biting all day! Colour doesn't matter, it's all minnow all the time. HH
  23. He probabaly stole the rod out of the hands of a fellow angler... Vlad believes that anything that gets handed to him, is his. "Hey buddy, nice ring!" HH
  24. Have been looking for this report since before I went on vacation to the French! Looks like a great time, with plenty of fish and great weather. Glad it worked out for you guys and give my best to Ken in his recovery. HH
  25. A number of years ago, my buddy was getting married and the stag was going to be in Niagara Falls New York. We took a bus from Toronto and had many a beverage on the way... the only real challenge we had, no bathroom on the bus. By the time we got to the hotel, there were 25 guys bustin for a pee. The hotel was right beside the American Falls, so we thought it would be a good idea for all of us to have a pee over the falls. Must have been quite the sight having 25 guys leaning up against the rail doing their business, because it didn't take long for the local constabulary to show up. After explaining that we were all part of a stag, they decided not to fine us... it helped that the groom had a bowling ball chained to his leg! We got off with a warning. So, no it is not legal to pee over the falls, but dam it was fun! HH
