Perch Coming Alive from being ice stiff - Video
Headhunter replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
Pretty comon occurance for me, when perch fishing Simcoe... those fish caught early in the day freeze up pretty quickly. I recall years ago, I brought home a bucket of perch... almost all frozen solid. I was cleaning them in the basement, when my cat decided to come down and see what that smell coming from the basement was all about. She was pretty scared and tried to keep her distance, but gradually gained confidence. Eventually she stuck her nose into the bucket, only to have one of the perch start to flip! Well, that sent the cat straight up in the air about 4 feet! I still laugh about that when ever I think about it. HH -
Great pics Lew! I have one that could be the sister/brother of yours. Like to use my backyard pine tree to avoid rain and snow... critters are pretty cool! Unfortunately, my little deer buddy hasn't made an appearance since mid January, although in speaking with a neighbour, I'm told he has moved north a few hundred yards, to the north side of Kingston Road. Miss the little guy! HH

I bet Rubin would have loved that a couple of week ago! Well done Bernie... nothing can't be accomplished if you have the willingness to try! Did the shower help to get the curry smell out of the cottage!? LOL HH

What other people think of me is none of my business... Read that somewhere, seems to make a lot of sense to me... that said, I really do hope that BB and Hillary are doing well! There's a ton of Lake Erie perch waiting on him! HH

Who do I dislike more? The Sens, the Habs or the Dead Things? Welcome to the East Dead Things... things just got tougher for yah. HH

And he didn't even have to stop and have his car re-adjusted! I don't think that I would have held it together as well as the sales dude did...but it's hard to hit the guy, when you're pinned to the back of the seat! LOL HH

On Frozen Pond - A tale of heartbreak and triumph

The way your year is going, yo might as well stay on shore with me! Save some gas! LMAO! HH -
You can get access through Byng Inlet... just a bit of a drive up, from there. Two routes north from there, if you take the inside route, stick to the marked path or you will find yourself propless or worse. HH

I hope "Hillary" is ok... HH

So, two days on the ice, two fish on, one iced... no sunrise for you two due to fog and you have the nerve to post a report! I'm beginning to wonder which of you two is dragging that stripped critter around in your gear box. Hmmm... after careful consideration, it's gotta be FnS! If memory serves, he's blanked in the deep water every trip this winter! What's worse, he took you, Captain skunk out on the last weekend of the season... It's gonna be a long/expensive soft water for FnS... but the guys at Sail will be happy! LMAO! HH Note to self... pick a weekend that CCMT can't make, for our spring Nip trip... no CCMT this year meant our best ice trip ever to Nip... do I see a pattern developing! Bah ha! -
"Bucky" the deer was actually named "Toast" as that's what we figured the deer would be after following people around my neighbourhood. He has been AWOL for about a month now... hope the little guy is ok... HH

This is "Bucky"... he's a rescue dog we got back in May of last year. He came to us as "Lucky", but that name didn't jive with me too well. After getting to know him, we changed it to Bucky and he has been fine with it. Apparently Bucky had spent the first four years of his life in a down town condo, so moving in with us when his owner took ill has been a real learning curve for Bucky. I think I had to teach him that he can swim this summer at the cottage. He "fell" out of the boat a few yards from shore, sank, then bobbed up like a cork. After that,he was a wet smelly dog for the rest of the week. Funny, he won't go in the pool, thankfully. He been an awesome family pet. HH

Well, I looked at the pics and I don't see Terry anywhere...so moving on, nothing to see here! HH

What did we learn from the Ottawa game? Our team can beat up their team! These aren't the Leafs of old, where no one sticks up for their team mates. These guys have some how finally got it! Kudos to Randy for that. It's gotta be making Burke crazy seeing the team he put together finally playing the way he had said all along... HH

Gonna miss Tom and his down to earth, grass roots love of country. His three cord songs, his lyrics, all scream of times of old when values were things you learned; you did not buy. For many years, on Saturday mornings, you could hear Stompin Tom blasting out of our house. Saturday was cleaning day and all my wife had to do, was put on our copy of Stompin Tom, "A proud Canadian". The vacum seemed to work on it's own! I have a number of favorites of Tom's, including: and RIP Tom... you did good! HH

Nothing special here, looks like just another weekend at Bernie's to me! HH -
Well then, have at 'er and let us know how you make out... HH

How about "blade runner" on the sleeves? HH

Same here... although I expect that when the playoffs start, we'll see the smallish Habs turtleing under the pressure/physicalness (are any of those words!!!???) of the playoffs. To some degree, I think that the ref's will play a huge part in how this year's playoffs unfold. Call everything or let them play... for the Hab's sake, they better call everything or the Habs are going to get beat up... not that there's anything wrong with that! HH

I'd be quite surprised if that lake held lakers and whities... it's just not deep enough, if memory serves me well. HH

Yah, the 90's was the hayday for Quinte... a bad day out was 20 fish! Best day ever was a 35 fish day. We had north west winds steady at 40k, with gusts of 60-80k. It was not a day for the faint of heart. Actually there was only one other boat out that day, they never got past the pump house in Picton. Four of us bouncing around in the boat, (20ft Targa -glass boat with a 225 merc)we never got out as far as the cement plant... 5 footers plus! We left the launch in the dark, dropped our lines as soon as we passed the pump house and had a triple header on within 200 yds. I'm pretty sure I got my PB that day, 14.5lbs. Got a crappy pic of it somewhere as it was still dark and we were struggling to keep lines in the water. I have personally seen one 16lb pickereye, numerous fish in the 12-14lb range. Funny how jaded you get when every fish is a teenager! Got to the point where only fish pics were taken of 13+lbers. It got to the point that day, that the guys out with us were saying, no you go ahead and reel that fish in, my arms are still aching from the last fish! I don't think we will ever see that again, since the Bay has changed so much since that time. Also, during the 90's, seeing more than 5 boats out would be a really busy day! These days, you're in line with 5 boats at the launch! HH

I was gonna say, welcome to Terry's world, but Wayne beat me to it! So I'll say, was Randy in the area? LOL Can you imagine the yard sale if Terry and Randy got together for a day's fishing... HH
