For the Leafs to beat Boston, they are going to have to play Boston's game, better than Boston. That means a physical war and I think the Leafs are deeper than Boston in the guys willing to give and take a hit department. Which ever team that can outlast the other, will be victorious. As far as the Habs and Sens go, I already have tickets to the ballet, so I'll take a pass on that series. HH

According to an article in today's Toronto Star, it seems that low water levels in Lake Huron have put the ferry in trouble. Apparently, with the water levels so low, the ferry (Chi-Cheemaun) cannot dock at either Tobermory or South Baymouth as the dock bumpers that protect the ship are now too high for them to be of use to the ship. Could take up to 6 weeks to install new bumpers that will protect the ship arriving at either dock. Just thought I'd give ya all a heads up! HH

Don't bet on the ponys.. save your money for tackle. Plant your corn early, you'll have more time to fish. Don't fish with Cliff. HH

Simcoe Perching... Suggest me some baits! Please!
Headhunter replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for all the suggestions folks! Much appreciated. We did get out yesterday (Saturday) from 7:00ish until 2:30. Sat out a bit of rain in Timmies, before we hit a Simcoe south shore launch. After a short ride out to the "perch armada", we were quickly into fish. Most of the day was cast, fish on, release, re-cast and on and on. Our hottest bait was a spoon, perch coloured, tipped with 1/4 inch of worm. They actually seemed to like the worm better than the minnows and worms were much less "work", meaning, multiple fish per worm. In total, the three of us brought home 30 fish... yes we were being quit picky as to how large we would keep... no one wanted to clean a mess of small perch. It was a great day out on the water, with the fish biting noticeably better while the showers were on... thing slowed a little once the sun made an appearance. We fished mostly between 6 and 9 ft of water and found, as suggested by Joseph earlier in this thread, that when we found stained water vs the gin clear stuff, we had better luck. Thanks again to all who took the time to add to this thread... it was a blast. And a special thanks to FnS for having us out on his boat and allowing us to squirt worm guts all over his carpet, with nary a frown or remark... we won't mention the Perch milt all over everything!!!! I'd be sure to check that rod over before accepting it... just to make sure he didn't give you the one with the skunk stripe. HH -

Thanks for that Joseph! On a side note, I am "assuming" that my "guide" for the day, will be putting us on fish... but that's just an assumption. HH -
Well, the plan is to hit Lady Simcoe tomorrow for some perchin... I have not fished Simcoe for perch from a boat and was hoping to solicit some advice from the community re baits and or techniques. I believe we are bring live bait, but truth be told, if I can get them to bite artificials, I would be more than pleased. Any and all advice appreciated! Thanks all and have a great weekend! Weather finally looks to be on the good side! HH

I've watched a number of games this year and find the performance of the team to be lacking. They seem to have started the year with the belief that they have already won the division, based on the hype surrounding the team. Gibbons' hands off approach has not helped as IMHO they seem to lack focus as a team. With Reyes out and an obvious lack of a 2nd baseman, they are weak up the middle. They don't seem to have any idea about how they are going to approach their at bats, just hoping for a pitch to hit rather then having a game plan. I really hope that they get their collective poop in a bag soon, or this will be yet another lost season. Gibbons should pull a "major league" on these guys and start tossing bats around the club house... so far, being the nice guy hasn't yielded any posititve results! HH -
A snap weight strategically placed will also help to keep your line down. I use 50 ft of mono as my leader and if needed, I will put a snap weight on the mono just before the lead core. Alternatively, if I am using my five colours rod, I will sometimes put a snap weight after the core, to help keep the core down. Again, boat speed is always your bigest concern. I don't tie my mono to my lead core... I super glue them together. I pull back about 4 inches of the lead core sheath, cut the core and insert the mono all the way into the sheath. I tack the seam with super glue, allowing it to dry for a moment, before I saturate the entire joint with super glue. Allow it to dry for about 10 minutes and you're good to go! No knots to real up through the guides and reel... I have caught Chinnies on this rig, and have never had the glue joint fail, ever... Anyway, just thought I would pass that along! HH

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "floater". HH

Just remember that lead core depth is highly contingent upon boat speed... HH

Insane... Bad day to be a marathon runner... Possible bombing

Most of us can't relate to the nasty things people do to other people in places we don't really know, or come from for that matter. Most of us on this board can realte to the folks in Boston and some have friends and family there. Once again, our collective sense of security and safety has be compromised and people are expressing their shock and grief. Seems these days, every day is a bad day for the innocent... HH -

Thanks for the info on the blues Crosshairs... I was aware of the past decline, but was not aware how it came to be. Regardless of who did it, obviously netting can be argued to be the culprit. I can't speak to past mis-deeds, I had nothing to do with it. Do I in any way support what has been done in the past, nope... but I am also not willing to take the blame either. Current generations can't be held accountable for the actions of the past... that's just chasing your tail. Your tongue and cheek suggestion that NFN start up their own outfitting businesses is actually IMHO a very good idea. And you are right, there is way more money in outfitting, accomadations, restaurants etc, then there is in netting, processing and selling fish. A state of the art hotel, casino if needed and outfitting business I would think could thrive, especially with our friends south of the border, should the fishing opportunities be worth it to our American friends. Under current conditions, not worth the energy, much less the $$$. HH -
I've had a lot of grief with Jiggin Raps... they are a go to lure for me through the ice. For what ever reason, it seems that I only get a day or two out with them, before that clear plastic tail falls off. I have a wonderful collection of tailless Raps, here at home. I did call Rapala and spoke to a customer sevice rep who told me that my problem is definately "not a common problem and that I should send in the busted baits. Honestly, I have not done so, but I sure would like to get more than one or two trips out of a seven or eight dollar bait. HH

The perps will be treated as terrorists, like the Oklahoma bombers... once found guilty, they will be executed. If they can find Bin Laden in a poop hole in Pakistan, they'll find the scum that did this crime. Sooner or later, they will get their man. I'll keep my thoughts on a suitable punishment to myself... As much as it makes me have internal convulsions, I have to agree with biguli on this... unfortunately that would mean that we are destined to repeat ills of the past... Anyone remember why/how the Lake’s Blue Pickeral became close to extinct? HH On a side note, I am thinking about booking a trip to Europe to discuss with the folks who live there, how the land they are on is actually part of my heritage and therefore not theirs! Only REAL difference being I don't have a stained, torn and faded agreement in my back pocket! LOL -
