  1. It's human nature to not hold dear, that which is un-earned. One could argue that mis-mangement has extrapolated a problem, but then labels would be given to those who speak... On a side note, I wonder how the M.E.C. type folks are going to react when knowledge of this becomes more wide spread? I bet they won't like the Algonquin Casino and Resort very much... HH
  2. We keep hearing and reading about First Nations rights.. they have the right to_________, well you fill in the blank. Why would anyone believe that the Algonquins would be any different then any other First Nations group, when it comes to "enjoying their rights"? Whether those rights include netting the lakes, mining or forrestry, why or why would they be any different? I have to agree with some of the above posters... history has shown us the First Nations people are no better than anyone else at managing resources... including the resources they receive by way of government payments. Don't agree, take a drive by ANY first nations reserve... bring a garbage bag! HH
  3. Yah, I can see it now... welcome to Algonquin Park, unfortunately several of our other demands are not being met by various levels of governement, so, the park is closed until we get what we want... and everyone knows how quickly the feds work with regard to first nations! LOL HH
  4. So, I think I have this right though I am sure that someone here will correct me if I am wrong!LOL So, ultimately we will either have the status quote, where the Ontario Government continues to run the park or we will have First Nations running the park. Myself, as much as I have little to no respect for our elected officials, atleast we can vote them out of office... same can't be said for First Nations. The devil you know, vs the devil you don't. HH
  5. Don't worry too much about this guys... we can always fish Algonquin Park or Quinte! HH
  6. Again, a hearty thanks to all who replied here... I have a company coming by on Monday... HH
  7. Thanks again to all who have taken the time to answer... much appreciated. HH
  8. I can't see it being bad here, just one Km from the big lake. Ground's gotta be frozen for any accumulation... that said, if the freezing rain actually materializes, that could make things interesting... HH
  9. A "Grope Her" I think... HH
  10. Looks like she has a built in rod holder as well... HH
  11. Thanks for that Lunkerhunter! FnS... you are already way too busy getting the boat/trailor ready! HH
  12. Thanks to all who chimed in... so, the verdict among the members here is that it's worth it? Anyone got an idea on what kind of pricing is attached to this service? Anyone recommend a company that "does it right"? Thanks again all! Dan, if I did that, it would not be a pretty sight! HH
  13. Hey folks, Hoping to solicit some info from those in the know. The "Warden" has been all over me lately wanting me to get our duct work cleaned. I know that it has not been done, since I bought the house, 6 years ago. I read an article in the Toronto Star yesterday, that got me wondering if this effort is a waste of time or not. They indicated only those who are having "issues" should consider getting the work done. Can anyone provide me with first hand experience, the + and - as well as an idea what costs are fair for this work. Any and all insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks all! HH
  14. That's a great Altantic you guys got there! I hope that I can take advantage of the invite next time... I'll blindfold myself so as to not give away that secret spot! If I can't see the road in, I can't tell anyone else! HH
  15. Crosshairs, again, thanks for chiming in... Any comment on my earlier post, quoted above... re NFN's take on the cormorant problem? Guys, I understand everyone's frustration, but bashing Crosshairs or any other First Nations member, will not do anything, but make the situation worse. They have the legal right to do as they do and until that changes, may I boldly suggest that we as anglers try to work together with First Nations for the betterment of all. If that really bothers you, take some time to read up on First Nations agreements... again, I don't necessarily personally agree with what's in place, but LEGALLY, rights are rights. The more I read and learn, the more I am beginning to think that the MNR are one of the biggest problems, the lake has. Is it a funding problem, a management problem, a political problem; sorry I can't answer that... but let's not alienate each other and allow the powers that be, to divide and conquer. HH
  16. Nice bass BBR... I for one, was expecting a pic of you without your shirt one, based on your text... thanks for not posting that! HH
  17. Tilapia Sucks... like lipstick on a pig... no matter how you cook it, it sucks! Has there been any discussion with the MNR and NFN regarding cormorants? Appreciate your help... HH
  18. Oh... and by the way... my family DID NOT GET A FEED of Nip Pickereye's this year... did I catch enough for a feed for four... yup! Did I release all but two, under the slot... Yup! Could I have kept a slot fish, yah, I could have, but that is not what people who respect the law do... so no Pickereye dinner at my house! HH
  19. Thanks for your input Crosshairs... I certainly don't agree with everything that you mentioned, but I will say that you provide a valuable resource for us here. I have been frustrated by this topic for quite some time... it has caused me to do some reading on the topic, so that I can make a personal, informed decision. I realize that First Nations have their rights (agree or not it doesn't matter, nothing will change) so we as anglers should be concentrating on things we can change. -stocking the lake - somebody do it! Frankly as an angler, I don't care who does it, as long as it gets done. -removal of cormorant nests and a cull of all those flying rats ALl other issues as far as I can tell, might as well be cast in stone. Nothing is going to change that, even if there was/is a will to do so. HH
  20. I did not intend that anyone remove those nets across spawning rivers, except for those authorized to do so. I re-read my post and it did look like I suggested that, I appologize. If native involvement is increasing, let's hope that they are more willing to tackle the cormorant problem, then the MNR seem to be. Yes, we caught more Pickereyes this winter than we have in the last five. That said, out of the 20 or so our group caught, only two were in the slot. All others were below or well below the slot. HH
  21. Yellow Pickeral were introduced into Nip in the 50's, if my memory is correct. Native Pickereyes were what we call Blue Pickereal... netting and over harvest destroyed the stocks. The MNR introduced Yellow Pickeral to replentish the lake. In a nut shell, Yellows are not native. If folks were really intenet on helping the fishery, they would be patrolling the lake, this spring, looking for and disabling nets strung across spawing rivers and creeks. Something needs to be done about the cormorant population as well. It's quite evident from many of the other threads here that nothing can or will be done with the commercial fishery and it's take from the lake. And yes, this was our best ice fishing season on Nip with many under 14inch fish caught. HH
  22. Ouch! Well, if that's true, I expect a few members here to chime and tell us that it is within their treaty rights and that given their treatment over the last 1-2 hundred years, we should be encouraging them to continue the practice. Others will tell us that we can get all the trout we want, at the grocery store. Thsi should be interesting as based on what I have read here since I joined some time ago, the trout guys a far more "hands on" them the Pickereye folks. And if they are doing it on the Saugeen, the other Lake Huron ditches will get the same. Perhaps I'll take up fishing Asian Carp... probably gonna end up being the only fish that everyone can agree on! HH
  23. Come on BBR, we live in a nanny state! No scratch that we live in a nanny country, no scratch that, we live on a nanny continent... no no, we live on a nanny planet! Yah, that's it! Limeyangler... there are no average Joe's... we're all above average! HH
  24. Three feet down, totally covered in dirt... no smell, no cats, no racoons... the worms go in, the worms go out! lol Heck, leave it with it's mouth just above ground level and I could use it to stake the roses! LOL HH
