Thanks for your intrest. I plan on taking a look at The York Bowman club as it looks like a very reputable club I also saw a club that was based out of York University but aparently all its memberships are sold out. Calledon sounds like it might work but I should do a little more resurch. Again thanks. If any other archers know of good tutors I am intrested not only for my daughter but myself as well. Private lessons are not out of the picture. Don. Just to clear things up I grew up using a long bow without the bells and whistles and been shooting a compound for the last year and a bit. Getting back into it and my little girl is very excited to learn how to shoot a bow. As I am excited to . For her and a proud Father.

I agree compleetly with finding a qualifide youth instructor. But the problem is to find one west or south of Barrie. Found 1 today south of Newwmarket on line (archery club) but it looks like they dont accept children under 14? I bought both my bow and my daughters in Waterloo and they do offer training but the drive is a little to much. As far as the accesories I bought them . Her form is almost perfect for a child square to the target shoulders level elbow and anchor piont pretty good. I want her to learn to shoot instictivly before I get all the bells and whistles. Any how maby I should have chosen a differnt name for this post but if anyone knows of a good beginer course for children that have a srong intrest in archery I would aprieciate your input. Thanks. Don.

Although I am not current with floatsiut advancements I personaly would not look at anything. I bought a Mustang Atlantic survival about 6 yrs ago. Compleetly satisfied -10 to -20 no problem -20 to -40 layer up properly and you will be comfortable... Just my 2cents. a little noisy when its cold out but fit/function and comfort surpass any noise complaint. Saltydawg. Bring on the ice. 50-60 days and counting for Lady SIMCOE

Hey Dana. Ice fishing is not about catching fish evey time you go out.It becomes an obsession a labour of love. The thrill/rush can be insain and thats what keeps me going back for the past 35 yrs.I am 44. More importantly is that you want to try ice fishing. The best advice I could give you is spend your money on clothing first so that you are prepared to go out with guys that can show you a thing or two over the course of a day of looking for fish. This way you will stay warm/dry and comfortable and not be that guy that brings the day to a misserable end. Buy a used float suit(mustang 100$) get good boots with lots of rubber under your feet(1/2 inch min) and be prepared to spend 120$ on 2 pairs of gloves/mitts.As for snow suits the price range can get stupid I would sudgest getting one from TSC Edco snow siutes are made buy Choko and the value is great I bought one 5 yrs ago for 200$ awesum.(BLACK snow suits are the only way to go on ice or snow) Your float suit must be big enough to fit over your snow suit because if you live 6 hrs north of Simcoe its freaking COLD and I have never had a problem with this set up -20-30 good to go.(very versitile)-40 I would be carefull . Oh ya a dry towel for your hands is invaluble.... About 700$ to be comfortable without a hut about 1200$ with a hut. Start with the clothing. Good luck. Saltydawg.

YES absolutly: Small pike are amazing cooked like that. But they must be very clean and stuffing the belly ful of mushrooms green or red pepper onions a little bit of garlic lots of butter and whatever els you like,. MMMMMMMM In small pike/hammerhandles the Y bone tends to become mushy when cooked so it doesnt become a factor. Over 20inches not so good. Cook it just like a trout. 10-15 mins on medium. MMMMM yummy.

Nice What area? What did you get it with?

I have never used GPS for fishing or land travel. It would seem to me that marking fish in open water would not relate to winter conditions. ie.water temp/light levels/weather conditions/weed lines/noise. To say that GPS is not usefull would be stupid on my part. I just feel that fish move and act different in winter conditions as oposed to other seasons . Larger lakes such as Simcoe probably wouldnt be affected as much as a small lake by ice conditions or weather during winter months. So I do plan on getting a GPS unit for this winter but its mainly based on safety more so than nailing fish. I like the thrill of a blind hunt. Shure its more work but what a RUSH GOOD LUCK AND PLAY SAFE ON THE ICE

Hmmmm. I have tryed to stay away from this but cant any longer. Learning disabilitys are difficult to overcome I too suffer from dislexcia. I stated in my first post after joing OFC/OFC that my sspelling is (atrocius) I would like to to think that it has come a long way(thanks to OFC ) To see a topic like this is somewhat offencive. I work with people every day that can barely speek english but are intelegent and highly skilled. To say that a person is ignorant or not worthy of concideration soely based on thier mastery of the english language is rediculous!!! That statement is Ignorant within itself.... SALTYDAWG

Try going over to him and politely asking whats been working for him. Then kindly ask if he wouldnt mind moving over so as not to encroche on your space. IF that doent work just run circles aruond him chances are you will keep caching fish and he will get frustrated . Encroachment is difficalt to judge it dependes on a multitude of circumstanceces. Personally I go with the 200ft rule Icefishing or open water... Hard to say without actualy being there ? Good luck.

Sorry guys after reading this thread It all comes down to what your comfortable with. I use braided in spring for pike or fall muskie. Otherwise its 8 pound mono .. Love the forgivenes and resilliant nature of mono..STRONG/FORGIVING/AND SENSITIVE. All the braided lines seem to focus primarily on sencetivity and not on anything after driving your hook thruogh the fishes skull??? Old school YEP YEP I AM Saltydawg...
