  4. Hi all, got out yesterday for a few hours with Scott(a.k.a Havtaflyfish) in search of crappie. The crappie fishing so far has been sporadic and slow so far, water tempswere still in the low 50s last week. Yestarday started slow apart from the usual hammerhandle jackfish that inhabit some of the bays we fish and the odd OOS walleye. The day was windy as hell, we got completely soaked on the way out, 40kmh winds. Whether or not this was why Scott went with regular tackle over his usual preferred fly outfit i dont know, but he is more than proficient using either and discovered the first successful pattern of the day.....a white twistertail under a slip bobber. We had to fish long and hard for just a few fish (albeit it very decent 12"-14"ers) until we hit the penultimate bay we were to fish.....then it was a fish a cast for a good hour. The wind had dropped off considerably too. Not sure whether we just discovered a bay with more fish....or time of day or the wind dying down or a combination of all three things made the difference....but it was GAME ON. Did not really matter what we threw at them....but we swapped between bobbers and straight jigs with micro tubes or a minnow. Fish were shallow....like 1' to 6'FOW. We threw back more than we kept, and we kept a good stringer for a fry up when we got home and a few for the freezer for the week. Good afternoon on the lake followed by a good feed of FRESH fish, with great company..... not a bad way to spend an afternoon and evening really! 7. WTG. Pleased as punch for her and you Bruce...definitely something to be very proud of!
  8. Hey Darren...what are you trying to illustrate with your anecdotes? I have had numerous US tourists encroach on my boat on an otherwise empty lake in the middle of nowhere, I have nearly had fights with British people on piers casting over my line repeatedly even after trying to diplomatically explain a system where everyone could fish together....my point with my anecdotes is...what difference does it make where you are from...there are local as well as more exotic!
  9. Iv'e heard whitefish is phenomenal smoked! As for four letter words i cant comment....sesame street is not on up here until 9 am
  10. Lol Bob...more canadian by the day! I think some day i will get round to making/buying/stealing a smoker...then everything will be thrown in at least once just to see what its like.

  14. With all due respect why is ethnicity even an issue here? If someone is breaking the law they are breaking the law.
  15. Thanks for the replies folks awww come on.....lol Yah...the dog is even enjoying the water more now that it does not freeze internal organs on contact! Hey Si, no i dont. I tried it once and it was ok its just that the wife is not keen on it. I dont like freezing fish simply because i dont really need to....and i would have way to much fish for one sitting if i harvested pike. I sometimes only harvest half my limit of walleye as thats more than enough to feed us...and if i have left overs there are far more takers for walleye than pike. Thanks Rick...he is super observant...as are most 3 year olds...dont miss a gosh darned thing! yes and no. Yes i had no 'wire' leader if thats what you mean....dunno why but i rarely get bit off using the 17lb flourocarbon leader, and no because the jig is only bare because it scarfed down a 6" live, tail hooked dace minnow. Thanks Will......hopefully Jack can emulate the feats of the amazing multi-talented angler that is the G-Man! Lol...yeah...we have to insist he leaves it at home now too...he wants to take it to town....to daycare...shopping....lol...he definitely loves it alright.
  16. great job Cliff...... What did you use to water seal the plywood?
  17. Hi all, Had a one hour session from shore this morning with the whole crew, BIG minnow on a floating jig nabbed the only pike, did briefly try a husky jerk with no takers. Everyone got involved and it was a fun morning till rain stopped play and we headed back to the house for hot choc and marshmallows...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6GG11Qc-2IE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
