  1. Hi all, After another hectic day Jack and me got out for an hour last night. He is going through a stage where certain parts of his body are the hot topic of the moment, so last night, according to Jack, we went to 'Willy' Lake. I tried to convince him of the lake's real name but he was not having it. I had to laugh though...he was only a chromosome or so away from getting the lake's name right( anatomically speaking) since the lake in questions actual name is 'Beaver' (snigger) Anyhoo....while mum is on a girly road trip to TBay....the mice will play. Unlike our last trip out he had little interest in fishing, but i think that has more to do with the guide's inability to put him on some decent perch action . I cant even imagine him growing up anywhere else....... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/iKZoovWJZ9g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  2. LOL.... People....people.....you dont understand...lol. I am not complaining about a slow day....just saying it was. Was still an awesome day out. I just go up there expecting a normal 50-100 fish session with countless 25" - 28" fish.
  3. "dleicious, nutritious PBs"....your a nutcase You deserve that holiday amigo....looks like a fantastic time had by all.....random dood on a capsized sailboat...only in WTFistan!
  4. Hi all, Ok....the disclaimer.......I know fishing is better than working....i know that 30 fish is not a bad day.......and this is not in anyway a statement about not appreciating and/or taking for granted being able to fish some outright awesome locations right on my doorstep. This is just a report for 6 hours on Lac Seul....that by previous standards was SLOW....for us anyway . Fishing was slow.....started off good, I guess we should have stayed and dissected the first spot as we hit into 3 decent fish right off the bat, and saw more on screen....although they were shy to commit (watching your jig on screen helps to determine what action will trigger a bite). First stop was the front of a midwater reef in a small bay facing into the wind in about 30FOW. We then went to try some wind swept shores where i have hammered them before in anything from 17' to 4' FOW.....NADA....NUFFINK.....ZERO....WEIRD!!?? Still confident this was just one of those things...fish move...whatever...we headed to my other deep water/reef/ structure spots......again....hardly a bite except Jackfish in 3 seperate locations.....really weird. I was marking fish...and they would follow the jig up maybe a few inches off bottom before hunkering back down. At 5pm they switched on in a couple of my spots....but i think the majority of the fish were further out in the main basin...i did not have enough gas to get out there. The boys back at the landing gave mixed reports...from "awesome fishing"...to "you were fishing too deep" , to "it was slow" Anyway....great to be out....thats the slow day out of the way....lol....tight lines. VIDEO STUFF <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wqufAJbZyQg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The blueberries were delicious....going picking with Cliff and his family this evening....Jack is very excited about that Once again....... Tight lines Simon
  5. Awesome.....wish my wife would come out fishing more. Great Shots!
  6. LOL...sounds like an episode of Fish TV
  7. Quality....those fish are really nice and clean looking...keep any for the table?
  8. Awesome surroundings to fish....nice bass too
  9. TRUE! Its so easy even i can use it! I dont even use the track system...just auto pilot (keeps you on a constant heading) and the spot lock. Spot lock alone is worth the 500 bones....its like having a guide in the boat, all you have to do is fish!
  10. Nice one Paul...time to blow the froth off a root beer or 2!
  11. Nice fish....and your personal best to come in a couple of months!
  12. That would be just fine with me. To replace the pink Dora the explorer one you already have Bob? Thats what i'm hoping. Tried it Brian...he kicked up a merry fuss...had to give it back...he loves that rod....for now. Me too....this has to be my all time favorite video...and i've made lots....lol.
  13. Hi all, Could not have been prouder than I was last night. After pretty much ignoring my poor son the whole day doing en suite renos, at around 6pm my boy pipes up "Dad....lets eat supper in the bye boat at ..........Lake" ( I love that he knows the names of the individual lakes). Mum comes home and I run it by her, she's a good sport, so off we went. So far Jack has shown little interest in fishing. He loves being in the boat but despite my efforts to get him fishing he usually finds other stuff of interest. Last night however it was all about catching fish. At the end he states "Just one more cast"....job done for now! JACK PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE NWO WALLEYE POPULATION <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CQ1G7x1fMUE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  14. Awesome! Congrats. Best wishes to you all. Love the pics.....second one is great...."awe maaaan...who turned the lights on!"
  15. Sounds perfect......congrats!!
  16. Hi all, Got out for some lakers and got our limit quick enough to try and limit out for walleye in the same afternoon. We have a new 78s gps to play with so we decided to try and get into a real backwoods trout lake, but the recent rain had a river flowing where the trail should be. So we headed back to a lake I have only ever fished on the ice. We straight jig trout with 3/8Oz jigs and minnows...same set up we use for mostly everything up here. Trout were in 65' to 75' FOW, some on bottom some suspended as high as 20'FOW. Despite the wind Cliff did an awesome job back trolling and we could watch our jigs on the fishfinder as the trout came up to smack the bait. Basically we trolled around until we saw a fish arch on the screen, flick into reverse, send down the jigs and watch the arch turn into a line heading to meet your jig! Lead core....downriggers.....?? Give me a jig, minnow and a fishfinder any day of the week. After only about an hour Cliff had a 32" and 23" and I had a 30" and 25". I don’t usually keep large fish but I have someone plumbing my en suite for me and they swap labour for trout...good deal if you ask me! Anyway with a limit in no time at all we thought we'd go to get some walleye. Having been foiled by the elements in our attempt to fish a new lake in the morning, we decided to try the nearest available lake and see if it held walleye for a limit of those too. Just so happened we were near a culvert by the side of the highway that we always said we wanted to see where the creek led. So we packed up, threw the boat down the side of HWY 17 and off we went. The lake was teaming with fish, but all small....we shall return. All in all a great day with some awesome trout and feed of walleye....NWO at its best I think. Sorry, video contains a few swears <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ghtEjDqDXKc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> FIRST DESTINATION WAS A WASHOUT..........LITERALLY! 2ND VENUE REALLY PRODUCED FOR WALLEYE WE HEADED DOWN A CREEK INTO THE UNKNOWN BUT DID GOOD FOR EATER SIZE NICE RED MEAT ON THE TROUT A FEW EXTRA INCHES FOR TEAM 5
  17. That place looks stunning....its like a little tropical lagoon! Holy moly Jacques, your daughter is a beautiful young woman! Amazing how fast they grow up. That scarecrow thing is gonna give me nightmares. And I think the word for the cottage is bijou, n'est pas? Great report Great pics.
  18. Hi all, invited some friends for supper Fresh walleye, thinly sliced, coated in my own breading mix. my wife makes a fresh basil bruschetta salsa and we add a variety of toppings including, Fresh italian parsley, capers, black olives, shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano, Taco sauce, sour cream, red peppers, lettuce, avocados, red onions, greek pepperoncini and fresh lemon and lime wedges for juice. YUM.
  19. Thanks for all the well wishes folks...i'll be sure she gets the message! Thanks FF....mum snapped us on Jack's 'secret island' at the bottom of the yard...we often sit out on it and plan the next day. He is evil with a water gun...NO MERCY! Takes after mum completely He bought the little monster with tickets he won at the arcade at Niagra. He named him 'Dave Crick'. LOL...dont know where he pulled that name from...but Dave Crick had to come everywhere with us after that.
  20. Great report WB...and some stunning pics
  21. Hi All, First off, an aknowledgement due to all the kind invitations to fish when i was down, just did not turn out to be on the cards. Time, weather and no internet access conspired to make this a relatively fishing free vacation. Fact of the matter was my wife's mother is very ill and we had to be ready to visit at short notice. Could not make the fish-a-thon either . Good news, Mother-in-law is doing much better and we had fun despite the stresses. ON THE 1ST DAY OF TRAVEL WE STOPPED AT LAKE SUPERIOR TO COOL OFF, EAT LUNCH, HAVE A PEE AND STRETCH OUR LEGS WE WERE A LITTLE LATE ARRIVING THE 2ND DAY, BUT GRAMPS (AKA COLONEL SANDERS) WAS WAITING AT THE TRAILER AT ERIEAU JACK MADE FRIENDS QUICKLY WITH GRAMPS' FRIEND SONNY......WATER FIGHTS WERE FREQUENT AND FIERCELY CONTESTED FISHING WAS INFREQUENT AND LIMITED TO THE BREAKWATER WALL AND PIER, FISH WERE SMALL AND SCARCE WE GOT ON THE OPEN WATER COURTESY OF ANOTHER FRIEND OF GRAMPS....JACK AND MUM GOT SOAKED...BUT HAD AN ABSOLUTE SCREAM! TOOK SOME TIME TO DO THE TOURIST THING, NIAGRA, CN TOWER AND A YUMMY CHINESE MEAL ON SPADINA FINALLY GOT TO SEE GRAMMA IN HOSPITAL THEN IT WAS BACK TO ERIEAU ON THE FINAL DAY JACK MET HIS COUSINS FOR THE FIRST TIME THEN IT WAS ANOTHER 2 DAY JOURNEY HOME WAS GLAD TO BE HOME TO BE HONEST......I CANT HANDLE THE CROWDS FOR LONG THESE DAYS, AND THE DAY AFTER GETTING HOME NORMAL SERVICE RESUMED.
  22. I have to agree with this. I have fished all over the world and in every instance i have come across 'nuisance' fish. As DanC says...pike here, to most locals (including myself now) are considered a royal pain in the derrier...in England it was Garfish when seafishing, even fishing on the River Thames in England as a wee lad common eels were the bogey fish. I dont agree with killing any fish you catch simply because its not what you intended, or wanted, to catch. If you put food on the end of a hook and drop it in water contaning hungry creatures some of the time you will catch one.....lol...deal with it! but dont take it out on the fish! Good question Blair...and a good thread, i'd say it would be illegal to kill and waste them....unless like the round goby you are obliged to do so if you catch one. I dont get those here, but i got 2 just last week fishing the pier at Erieau......tell ya what...i appreciated hooking into them, cuz to actually feel something solid at the hookset was a welcome relief to the very small and infrequent bass, sunnies and crappies i had been catching. I think that they put up an awesome scrap....i would say pound for pound right up there with smallies...and they get way bigger than smallies, only difference i can tell is people dont eat them (much), but then again muskies are not regular table fare either.
  23. Nice fat bass you have there Monique
  24. LOL. Great report!
