Thanks Bill, will think about that for sure...especially since my local Walmart actually has that one in stock! At a really good price. However, it just seems that to double that capacity it is only $15 bucks or so more...with a camera thrown in...a pretty $hitty camera granted...but a fun thing to have for not much more. How do you rate the unit? Good buy? Awesome Dan! When i get whatever unit you'll have to show me how to use it.... over lunch? I fell head over heals for the 60csx when i first started looking into GPS 4 years ago...then i got given the old etrex and stopped looking..but now i need one made sense to go for the latest....and all the reviews say it is a good upgrade on the csx...so must be good!

Hi all, I posted some time ago that i was in the market for a GPS. I broke an old one last year, bought another which i though was similar at half price (new etrex legend) only to realise the previous owner had uploaded better maps onto that unit than the preloaded basemaps the new unit came with. With the prices of maps and the memory limitations of the legend series i thought i'd be better off returning the etrex legend and upgrading. Since i gave up smoking and Red Bull energy drinks....i have a bit more cash and figured i only really want to buy a GPS once (or once every 10 years ) so make it a good one while i have the cash. I have $600. I flirted with the idea of just waiting a bit longer and getting a HDS-5 Gen 2/chartplotter, but figured i could use a handheld too, and since i do ok with my trusty X67c i decided to save again and make that my next gift to myself. So basically i looked at the top of the line for 3 top brands....Garmin, Delorme, and Lowrance. I was impressed by the Delorme PN-60w, innovative and lots....i mean LOTS...of preloaded maps (apparantly maps is what Delorme do), also it took Navionics chips. however, the innovative products that went with it (emergency GPS texting service) was expensive, and it quite a few negative reviews. I think what put me off in the end was it had the smallest screen size and my eyesight is getting worse and worse. In my previous post many of you replied that Navionics chips were best, and since i already love Lowrance(my x67c rocks) i looked at their new Endura series...in particular the Endura Sierra. The specs are right up there with the top Garmins and Delorme and also had touchscreen functions and buttons. And of course was navionics capable. However, reading reviews from a large number of sites, this unit faired the worse of the three, lots of compatability issues, software, firmware, customer service issues...etc...etc. Put me off big time. That brings me to the Garmin. Lots of good reviews about 62 series. Only nagging problem was that the garmins wont do Navionics. However looking at the Inland lakes chip garmin has its not bad at all coverage wise, and what i really want on my handheld is not so much lake depths (i'll get a Lowrance HDS with Navionics for that) but the Offroad Mapbooks for Ontario.....THAT ROCKS! So....based on all that i think i have decided on a Garmin GPSMap 62sc. I dont really want a camera, but it was the model with the highest internal memory capacity(3.5Gb) that did not come preloaded with expensive USA Topo that i would rarely use. I will almost be able to afford both the canada lakes Chip and Backroad Mapbook Chip in my budget (i am about $60 over budget) but figure i will have a kick ass unit with lots of lakes and all the tiny trails i need to find my way to some pretty remote ones too. Basically i am laying out my thought process for myself before i spend $600+. Anyone care to add anything here....all comments welcome...even if i dont agree with them

Yup...its a tough life. Hey Rick...awesome pictures! Thanks for sharing a slice of your life down there. I'd love to have you guys up sometime. Plenty of room for the whole clan to run around, might even get to do some tubing if the water is warm Jack would certainly love the company too.

Here is an ad on our local classifieds this morning, unfreekin'believabubble! Garmin Dakota 10 ($299.99) only used a 2-3 times. Has Garmin Topographic map of Canada ($151.65) loaded onto it. Asking $375.00 OBO. REALLY BUDDAY!!? I can get a brand new one online, with 2 years extended warranty on top of Garmin's original warranty, with a new Garmin Topo Canada chip delivered to my door for $324!!!!!!!! That's with 13% taxes factored in!!!! I want to say more but it would be unkind! Actually .....lol...i should wait to see if it sells and then order a bunch and put them on sale for a huge profit!

So sad...Please, if you have a FB account put this on your status if you dated, know, work with or are related to (or divorced from) someone who suffers from stupidity. We all need to understand stupidity is real and must be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a stupid person right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity, and sympathy does not help. Sometimes a piece of 2x4 to the back of the head helps, but not a lot. But we can raise awareness! 53% won't re-post this because they don't know how to copy and paste! Thanks Simon

Hey Rob, got mine off ebay...came in around $20 cheaper than Cabelas, but if it goes wrong I will have to go direct to Minnkota. I think if i could have done things over...i might have gone with a 24volt instead of the 12v,sometimes....just sometimes i think the extra power would be good, under powered in gusting winds.

Thats awesome Terry...really cool video. Do you have that Gopro on a string or something...whats the set up?

And they wonder why spots get closed down
limeyangler replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
I had to challenge a work colleague about leaving all their beer bottles in a spot i saw them at. He denied it point blank to my face....never liked him anyway. What peeeees me off is that its the locals that are doing this here, the same ones who are the first on their ignorant, vigilante soapboxes on many other 'issues' that they claim are detrimental to their quality of life, including the bad behaviour of 'Americans' who visit here. NICE FISH BTW! Not excusing anyone who dumps stuff in the bush but I did have an interesting conversation with a refrigeration technician the other day though. Apparently he is almost the only guy left in Dryden willing to empty the gas from an old fridge so you can get a sticker to take it to the dump. Cost over $100 to do it anyway...and took me a whole afternoon to find this one guy. Now he says they are being asked to re-train again at their own cost or something to allow them to continue to do the work, that's why nobody will do it because its not profitable for them anymore...even at $100 for a couple minutes work!!! He says "you should see how many old fridges are in the bush". -
I am gonna put 2 in the boat this morning! Thanks man...unusually early spring though. Hang on...actually given that i have been here 5 years and this has happened twice now...its actually the norm! Makes up for a pretty dismal hardwater season for sure...what with all the skunkypoos and no sled! I am watching the last 1 acre ice floes drifting up the west arm of wabigoon from the computer desk as i write Solo. I was told over 3 weeks ago by some 'know it all' that ALLthe small lakes from here to Kenora along Hwy 17 were open....not so. Some were half open last week. Where we were is a narrows, opens first every year, the main part of Eagle lake at Vermillion Bay and westward is still iced over.. Its windy as hell today....i am saying today is official ice out day on Wabigoon.

congrats on the PB...what a piggy

The good thing is we have a long time in the boat from now to ice to reach that bar! Once we hit Lac Seul in the summer we will do fine. Big Eagle? We were at the South East of Eagle Lake, its a pretty big lakwe if thats what you mean.

Hi all, Loving this early open water and taking full advantage. Headed out for walleye, was fun....seemed they were in every spot we tried. I ended up with a 22.5" male and Cliff got into a very respectable 25" female....both returned to 'get it on...bang a gong". We took a limit each and were off the lake just as it turned real nasty after a fun 5 hour session. Did i mention i love my new I-pilot? Fish all in 15-20 FOW, 4"-6" sucker and dace minnows on long shank chartreuse jig heads doing the most damage. Cliff's big fish of the day coming off a really productive mark i fish in the fall. TODAY'S VIDEO <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qERmRBQN5eg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Got some nice pike and an OOS musky too. Sorry team 5, forgot my sign
