  1. the electrics are great if you have a lot of panfish to clean.. for bigger fish (but less of them), the ole standby is fine (albeit still slower)

    Island lake

i too am about 15 mins from there (just moved). kinda overlooked it in the past but it might be a place to go being that close.
  3. if you're hoping the snow will help ice production on thinly ice covered lakes, you are wrong, it will hinder it. regardless, the snow was nice! got about 5-6 inches where I am.
  4. the gall of someone to post a fishing report on a fishing board. this is not wrapmyselfupinbubblewrap.com. do you even fish bob?

    Possum

this one setup shop in my last backyard (before the raccoons chased him away) -
  6. very much doubt that will be an option.. these guys and others like them just buy 'space' from bell. if there's no dsl infrastructure, there's no dsl - period.
  7. if there's no cable or dsl in your area, your options are very limited to say the least.. hard to imagine in 2011 there are no great options for high speed in rural areas of southern ontario - as little as 30 mins away from GTA. i went through the same thing and after considering the options (satellite [xplornet), wifi) went with the bell turbo hub (rogers has the same product/service). satellite is too expensive and the speeds/latency can be only marginally better than dial up. turbo hub works but you have to be mindful of the bandwidth caps. as mentioned, they start at 3gb for $40 and go up to about $90 for 10gb a month - after that it gets VERY expensive. forget about netflix, torrents or watching youtube videos - you'll chew up the caps quickly. there are some things you can do to reduce bandwith consumption (web cache server, disable flash/images in the browsers) if you are a bit of a techie but, any kind of media is going to consume a lot of bandwith no two ways about it. also, if you require a public IP address for whatever reason, it's an additional cost.. bell/rogers only provide a private IP with their hubs. if you don't know what that means, chances are you don't need a public IP till your kid complains they cannot play their xbox online properly if the internet is to be shared between two households, i can almost guarantee you will go over the caps.
  8. My '01 grand cherokee 4.7 v8 is my tow vehicle I get about 20-21mpg (10-11 L/100km) on the hwy when keeping it under 110km/hr and 15mpg (14-15 L/100km) in the city (not towing) my boat/trailer weighs under 1000lbs but the jeep will pull 3000lbs easy.
  9. can't they build an electric vhs barrier?
  10. turbo likely requires premium fuel (i am speculating, most if not all forced induction gas engines require the good stuff) and it's difficult to say just by hp/tq numbers alone.. let's see WHERE in the rpms the turbo 6 makes its power compared to the 8.
  11. yep, bald eagle nuggets are delicious. nice shot bill.
  12. if you decide to get the pump from PA to pump the lower unit oil in, you will need an adapter for your Yamaha. The two supplied adaptors in the PA package will not work with the threads (at least on my 40HP Yammy). It's not a must, you can squeeze the oil in from the bottom straight from the bottom.. but it would make it easier.
  13. it's more like a trinidad with a level wind & yes, it looks nice. but no lefty which eliminates it from many peoples lists.
  14. how tall are you? i am 6' and don't like using anything shorter than 7'6 when I'm fishing from the front of the boat. If I am casting jerkbaits from the back of the boat, I'll shorten down to a 7'2". My favourite/most used rods are 8' - 8'6". Hard to suggest weight because to tell you the truth, the actions/ratings can be different between brands. In St.Croix for example a MH or H is (musky rod) is good. I find the Compres are 'over-rated' so a MH shimano to me feels soft. As for brands, I am a St. Croix guy, you don't have to go legend series (tho they sure are nice) I use the premier line almost exclusively. One exception is a 8'6" Okuma rod that is a great rod for the money (just over 100). But you cannot go wrong with St. Croix or Shimano.
  15. Roy, http://theringlord.com they are in alberta. i only see the spring loaded ones on their site but it might be worthwhile contacting them to see if they carry the others.
  16. i have heard (and read on the internet so it must be true) that peppermint oil keeps them away. ie. dab cotton balls in it. cannot attest to the effectiveness of it.
  17. Interesting and agreed! Perhaps its based off the catalina then and if so, it's a heckuva deal and lefty friendly. Looking at it more closely its almost a hybrid of the catalina and convector.
  18. i think they have been mentioned as they look an awful lot like rebadged convectors.
  19. i agree with larry.. count passes or wraps, ditch the LC idea if you want to go lefty (or get the takota and deal with the wrong handedness) and avoid the convector (unless you view them as disposable reels). convector will last for a year or two but will fall apart if you troll with large baits (this is from experience). it's not the screaming 300 yard runs that kill a reel it's the constant pounding/resistance of the large lures used for deep water muskie fishing. i now just use an old 7001 and count pulls.. distance from reel to 1st guide is 2 feet, 25 'pulls' = 50 feet back. the clicker will wake the dead on slow days.
  20. it is a kids toy. hahaha.. it's a good reel for small stuff and jerkbaits
  21. for the muskie crowd, it's a niche reel designed to pull big blades. 42" of pickup on each crank puts it in the class of the trinidads and the avet reels - the big difference is it comes with a level wind, while those reels do not. sucks that there's no lefty.
  22. i find the ON/PQ border fairly easy going.
  23. that spot's reserved for ottawa. cause even if they don't finish last, they are still in ottawa.
  24. Service Canada for the boat MTO for the trailer
