What's with the Leafs bringing in these pro try out contracts? They might be pretty good additions, but doesn't this go against the end goal of finishing dead last this year? Boyes, Glenncross and Setaguchi (?)

NF "Wild" rice situation on the Tri-Lakes

I was going to say that I have always understood that it is illegal to harvest wild rice. (non-native) http://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/90w07 -
NF "Wild" rice situation on the Tri-Lakes
jimmer replied to buckhorn250's topic in General Discussion
I hardly go out fishing anymore (I live in the south end) it's a lot of work to fish the rice and quite the drive up the lake in a smaller boat to get past the fields for a short fish. I used to go our every night after work, rarely did that this year. Not sure where it's all leading to though. -
The fact that you're willing to help anyone that contacts you goes way above and beyond what anyone should expect from another member of this forum. I had a conversation with you a few years back about my first trip to Quebec and it was very helpful, way more than most would offer. Good luck with your goals and I hope you reach every one of them. Ignore the negativity, that's all I can offer. PS I am jealous of all your adventures! Wishing it was me!

Bass love senkos...... A little too much

Do any of you that use the O ring notice more hook set misses with the hook turn side ways? Just asking because I was thinking about trying them. -
I would be there if I lived closer to Newmarket. Sorry, looks like your post kind of got off track.

Funny that this is posted. I saw a ring neck pheasant this morning on the way to work. Haven't seen one in years. This was just east of Lindsay. Definitely a chucker in the picture.

If the gears were chewed, you would be screwed. You should get it fixed quickly though like Garnet says. It isn't that hard to get into the lower unit, just remember how you took everything apart and put it back the same way.

Night Fishing Small Mouth/ Mississauga lake
jimmer replied to Cloudy15's topic in General Discussion
Glad to hear you gave it a try. It's a tough lake from everything I hear, and I rarely consider visiting it even though I live fairly close to it. There are so many other more productive lakes in Haliburton County and North Kawarthas. I would keep drop shotting, but try different baits such as wacky rigged senkos, leeches, nose hooked senkos, swammers, etc, They will be deep. -
I always forget to mention the difference in the Balsam Lake slot.

Sounds like it was a successful fishing trip. I find the fishing in Quebec quite amazing.

Yup, we have the original crock pot and it works amazing. I hear many complaints about the newer ones and here I was thinking about replacing our 30 year old model. Guess that won't be happening. I can't wait to see the finished product of that bacon wrapped meatball !!!!!!!!!

I think that people concerned about the rice should not be put into the same category as the other issues (listed in the mykawartha article) that have faced the First Nations over the past 200+ years. That being said, this is the Kawarthas Lakes not the Muskoka Lakes, we should all be used to the weed growth and changes that takes place over the years. I curse the stuff, but also realize its importance.

Some one else recently posted about catching a pike with similar features. Not sure what site it was on, but more local to Ontario.

You can only keep walleye that are 35-50 cm.

It's amazing how luck can fall the Jays way when they are at the top of their game. How many 3rd basemen throw that ball wide with 2 out in the 9th inning?

Boat crash on Scugog injures 9 including infant baby.

It isn't the first and definitely won't be the last collision on the water in the Kawarthas. The lakes are packed with over sized boats and kayakers alike. People need to slow down. I really can't understand the reasons to buy 20+ foot boats for the kawarthas, that's just my opinion though. There is a section on the lower end of Pigeon lake that is vary narrow due to the Rice growth and people fly through that area doing 60+ miles/hour, an accident waiting to happen I tell you. I avoid the lake on the weekend and I know many of my neighbours have their homes for sale due to the increase in traffic on and around the lakes. -
Which leader would that be? That's the biggest issue all of us face., we need change, but will changing just for the sake of changing make anything better?
-
How come you only catch small ones? LOL HOGS

Nice to see the Chief make this decision, hopefully it works out. Have there been any mortality studies done on the release of walleye caught in 30+ feet of water and then released? It was one of my concerns when they changed the limits and size. Letting fish go while ice fishing with swim bladders sticking out of their mouths turned me off.

I heard that the motors they build now are just not expected to get the same number of hours that the old ones used to get. Most of the old ones would last forever if cared for properly.
-
The lower number of walleye has resulted in people keeping more bass on the lake I live on. People are a lot more fishing educated now and this is going to have a lasting impact on all species. Eat pan fish and save the game fish for the sport on the lakes that are suffering from over harvesting. Those in the north probably don't see this ever happening, but........

They do sell flush kits at CT with the various hose connectors that you would splice into the lines.

That's a good way to sum up the Chretien era. I couldn't wait for him to be turfed, just like people can't wait for Harper to be turfed. I believe that there are many that don't mind having tax dollars wasted; they must just have too much. I just might not be voting this time, I don't like any of them.

Taxidermy at home....anyone? My first attempt.
jimmer replied to Freshtrax's topic in General Discussion
Picking a great lakes salmon for your first mount was a gutsy call. You should start with a walleye or bass. Where are you located? I have some high quality taxidermy magazines laying around that I would like to get rid of (free). I would even give you some pointers if you would like. I used to teach it at a local college and did it for over 25 years. I spend most of my free time fishing now.
