  1. There was a Bald Eagle nesting on Upper Buckhorn north of Gannons Narrows for a few years until the nest fell over, so it's possible that he saw an Eagle fishing.
  2. If the fillets are not frozen in water, take them out of the freezer the night before and place them in the fridge. If frozen in water, sit in a bowl on the counter first thing in the morning. Use vegetable oil like the past post said, it's easier to control. Dip the fish pieces in egg and then in plain bread crumbs spiced with whatever you want ( I like Thai Spices). Make sure the oil is hot enough (should also be deep enough for the pieces to float) that the pieces sizzle when you put them in the oil, they will be greasy if you put them in too soon. Stay by the stove and don't leave. Keep an eye on the oil while it's heating up so it doesn't get too hot (an electric frying pan would benefit you in keeping the temp around 375). Turn the pieces when they become golden brown, that should only take 2 minutes. Place them on something to absorb the oil and keep warm. I like to serve with some dipping sauces if people say they aren't crazy about fish. Everyone eats it whether they like fish or not.
  3. Yeah, we hear all the stories about 35lb + fish in the Kawarthas. I believe if you get one at 25lbs you are doing well. I have seen 52" fish out of Pigeon weigh around 20lbs. That was years ago. However, and I do believe that the fish are heavier these days and that Balsam produces the largest ones for whatever reason. Those 50" fish are probably around 25-30 years old. Many people tend to over estimate the size of their fish (a true fisherman) and as past taxidermist I have many stories of guys bringing me 30lb fish that turned out to be 18lbs.
  4. Good pike fishing and some muskie in Elephant also. I would stay out of the bush if the Moose guys are still banging away.
  5. Sorry, but Nash signed long term with Columbus. I always believed that he would consider coming to TO when he became a free agent (my hopes anyways). However, between the media and various forum attacks on the Leafs, I don't see how the team can attract any worthwhile free agents. What player in their right mind would want to live under a microscope, when they can go to Columbus, make millions and remain unknown. A true fan! Go Leafs Go!
  6. I'm assuming that you mean walleye. There are no chain pickeral in Ontario that I know of. I would concentrate around rock humps/shores and weeds just as the sun is setting. It's a short period of time, but I find those lakes that have suspended walleye tend to be tough during the day and the walleye move in shallow at dusk. I also found that the walleye like fallen trees in the fall. Drop a jig and minnow down near the ends of the trees. Let us know how you make out on this mystery lake. The muskie are all over at this time of the year, but I would usually look for some kind of structure like rocks on a sunny day or the weeds that you have found. The bigger ones could be out after those suspended walleyes.
  7. I am also looking for a new rainsuit. I have been using a wetskins for the past few years and it has served me well, but I did not like the hood. It doesn't really close or tie down tight, so usually get soaked when running the boat. Does anyone know if they changed the hood style to a full hood? I have a couple of buddies that use the Frogg Toggs and they swear by them. You have to order them from the States though. I think they are about $100.
