  1. And completely agree frank the rabbit about jays management.
  2. Steve Pearce is another completely unspectacular player. If his addition to the team is handicapping their ability to go after solid, quality players then I really have no idea of what direction this team is going. It will be interesting to see if fans still show up in droves this year for what at this point is clearly looking like an inferior team. Then again, who knows, maybe they are about to pull the trigger on some kind of blockbuster deal that will bring a player with real impact to toronto. Kinda doubt it though...
  3. I had a set Nokian WR's on my 4Runner some 10 years ago. I thought they were fantastic.
  4. Might be worthwhile mentioning your budget. The majority of suggestions you are getting are going to set you back 500 dollars easy, if you plan on buying new.
  5. I meant to give you a more detailed response but the iPad ran out of juice. There are a bunch of guys on this board with far more experience than me but I'll give you my 5 cents worth anyways. I was a frequent but casual musky angler, lots of outings but Short ones, sneaking in an hour or two here and there. If you plan on spending 8 to 12 hours on the water my input may not apply. I've owned a bunch of different rods in different lengths and actions and a few reels but looking back I think the most versatile of them all was a 7'6 MH premier musky rod. No such thing as a do it all rod but this was the closest I ever came to finding it. I had it paired with a few different reels and although the Abu c3 (6501 left handed) seems to have fallen from favour these days, I liked it. Reasonably low gear ratio, good line capacity, clicker, decent drag and mine cast quite nicely. No, it probably won't last forever and won't excel at burning big buck tails or picking up slack line but in my opinion a decent do it all kind of reel at a good price. Felt like it paired well with that rod. If I ever find the coin to refit myself with a solid musky set up I'd be content with that set up.
  6. If the jays could get Edwin for 20 million a year for 3 it would be a bargain. I'm looking over some of the other contracts out there and 20 million doesn't necessarily get you a lot. Dexter fowler just signed for 17 million a year. Decent player but no Edwin. I can't believe Chris Davis in Baltimore has a 162 million, 7 year contract. Guy struck out 220 times last year and had a whopping 85 RBI. Horrid.
  7. I have no idea why they'd bring back Smoak either, especially to the tune of 4 million bones. He's like a .223 career hitter and completely one dimensional, showing occasional power. It's hard to imagine there isn't a power hitting prospect somewhere in the minors who couldn't equal or best his numbers if pressed into service at a fraction of the cost. Might even give fans something to get excited about. I also liked Ben Revere and Rajai Davis before him. He won the stolen base crown this year I believe which is pretty cool considering his age and limited playing time. Good for him.
  8. Jose might have one or two exceptional seasons left in him, providing he can stay healthy but I think signing home to a mega buck 3 or 4 year contract would be a mistake. He might actually be worth the 20 million this season, maybe even 25, but I can't see him having a ton of interest from any team for a long term deal.
  9. If Saunders splits too, along with Bautista and Edwin your looking at closer to 90 home runs out the door.
  10. Jays barely squeaked into the playoffs this year and so far it's looking like they are going to field a considerably weaker team next year. Not too encouraging.
  11. Nice report. On a lot of levels. The idea of a Toronto waterfront/centre island pike is more or less what got me into fishing some 16 years ago. Reminds me the old Clive/fishing fury, Snag and fish head ric reports. Refreshing to see a 10 plus minute report of younger anglers without a pile of cussing too. Nice to see all the catch and release too. Good stuff. Thanks.
  12. Awesome. Loved it. Watched it this morning and made my son watch it now.
  13. And what 7 seater would fit seven 6'4 guys comfortably? Can't imagine your typically going to find 7 guys 6'4 together very often.
  14. For how long have they been doubling every ten years?
  15. I'm not particularly fond of any political party but do some of you guys honestly think that should the conservatives make their way into power your going to see your bills plummet to something you find reasonable? Do you really, honestly believe that?
  16. I also with they would get rid of Smoak.
  17. I'd like to see Upton given a shot as an every day player, providing they haven't already gotten rid of him when I wasn't looking. Home runs are exciting but so is speed on the base paths, Uptons got both power and can really move, maybe a slim chance at a 30/30 season. I think he's also a relative bargain as I don't think the jays are on the hook for all of his contract. Would be nice if Pillar would start swiping bases again too.
  18. Thanks guys, you've been very generous with your time and knowledge, some great posts.
  19. Lol. Wood burning related, I like that. Funny, cause we were in the exact same situation in the house we recently moved out of. House had this gigantic fieldstone hearth with a tiny gas fireplace insert. Looked incredibly stupid and we never used it. I wanted to pull the insert and go back to wood burning and inquired, was told by a professional that I'd have to redo the liner and possibly the chimney if I remember correctly. I didn't really believe him.
  20. Thanks guys. The house is heated by a gas furnace so the fires are more for fun/ambience rather than a necessity. We live in peterborough and although it's a fairly large lot ordering anything larger than a bush cord is most likely out. The idea of ordering logs has a certain appeal but I have a hard enough time as it is now keeping up with things; can't seem to find an hour or two to even go fishing. Wife would kill me if I started playing lumberjack.
  21. Hi guys, I'm about to order a bush cord of firewood. I've got a wood burning insert that measures 20 inches front to back. Am I ok with going with 18 inch pieces or would 16 be better for some reason? The house is reasonably new to us and although we've had numerous fires I've never had to order wood, just burned what the previous owner left us. I don't really know what lengths they were. You guys are normally a wealth of knowledge. Thanks
  22. Jeremy, your still on the hook for the rest for the rest of that story dude.
  23. The suspense is killing me. I need to hear the rest of this story.
