  1. Yeah, very cool. Mind if I ask what you're using as far as rod and reel? That's a beefy looking stick!
  2. Interesting. So fuzzy yet still not at all cute. Takes a special kind of menace to pull that off.
  3. While I agree that a new vehicle typically makes for a poor financial investment I think that the rate of depreciation, depending on the vehicle, is often somewhat exaggerated. Lately I've been dreaming of buying a new truck but also looking at newer used ones and the depreciation isnt as much as you would think or hope for.
  4. I tried the lake about 6 years back in the spring for pile. I think I fished the south west side, couldn't find any signs of life whatsoever. No perch, sunfish, minnows and no pike. Always wanted to give it another go but never made it back there.
  5. That looks absolutely awesome. Cool report. Looking forward to more.
  6. Very hard too lose someone so close. Sorry for your loss.
  7. Nice looking truck for sure! Congratulations. Just out of curiosity, do you know if they offer it in a short bed regular cab? I don't know if anybody build trucks in that configuration any more when I come to think about it.
  8. I like 20 pound braid for your main line on a spinning reel. Strong but not so heavy as to really impact on casting distance or lure action. I used 40 pound flouro to make musky leaders for a little while, I probably wouldn't do it again but it worked well, never had any break offs or chew throughs.
  9. I think they're referring to the 500 series model that's got the huge price tag attached.
  10. His opinions on political issues aren't limited to his own threads. Are you going to tell me you haven't noticed? But sure, if he could keep his opinions (regarding political issues) to his own threads I'd be happy to never click on one of his topics again.
  11. I'm not looking for an argument, just making a statement. Some threads you can tell by the title that they're not going to be worth reading, others you get drawn into and before you know it it's too late. You're irritated.
  12. Cliff, it would be fantastic if you'd quit constantly dredging up your political beliefs. Honestly, your actually wrecking OFC for me. Can't say if I've been here for quite as long as you but so far as I know your seniority doesn't grant you the right to continuously break the rules regarding political threads.
  13. Disagreed. Posters continuously start threads they know are going to start arguments. Always the same guys, big mouths who just can't keep it shut. I'd love to see the banhammer swing far more often then it does. You start a political thread that anyone with half a brain can see is going to go sideways and your done. I can't stand the those threads and they constantly come up and political allegiances keep making themselves evident in threads everyday. Really irritating.
  14. Right on. They could of done a lot worse. Shame Edwin's gone but happy to see Bautista back. Even if he has a mediocre year he's worth close to 18 million. And if has a great year he's a steal, especially with options to keep him longer.
  15. I have a gut feeling that while the 7'6er would be just fine but the 8 footer would be better. Landry, I know the MH sounds light but I should clarify that when I say small buck tails I mean just that; I'm talking lures in the 3/4 to one a half ounce range. Small by a typical musky fisher mans standards, but huge by a kids gazing at the lures at Canadian tire. The bigger Mepps, Blue Fox Musky Bucks, that kind of thing.
  16. Hi, as I mentioned in a different post I'd ordered a 8 foot MH st croix premier musky rod. It came in the mail and they sent me the 7'6 MH instead. I've actually owned this rod before, thought it was a great rod but figured the 8 footer might have a slight edge when it came to casting lighter buck tails which is what I intend on throwing the majority of the time. At the same time I'm tempted to just keep what they've given me. Can anybody speak from experience, is there much difference really between the two? They have identical specs regarding lure weight and line rating. They've offered to swap them if my mail back this one. Thanks
  17. You look well prepared! Have a great trip, sounds like it's going to be pretty amazing.
  18. Nothing good ever comes out of these political threads. Ever. Maybe the occasional good one liner but beyond that.....
  19. Towards the end of last summer I sold off my musky rods and the majority of my lures. Fall rolled around and I realized how much I missed it so I've decided to re-equip myself with a decent set up. I made a conscious decision that this time around I'm going to stick with smaller lures and ONE rod that is appropriate for throwing them. I love a lure of that causes a near total eclipse of the sun with each cast as much as the next guy but this time around I'm just not going to do it. Anybody else ever go the same route? I figure the larger lures are harder on the rod, reel, line, wrist and wallet. By no means am I a musky pro, I catch a few a year and I have to work hard to get them. Just to be clear, I'm not advocating fishing musky with bass gear or light line, I'll still be using a dedicated musky rod with most likely 80 pound braid and heavy leader. Im just curious if anybody else has ever down sized and enjoyed the same success that they had previously or if the trend towards double tens and monster baits is justified because it flat out outperforms the smaller lures. Thoughts?
  20. I like that spring count down clock, but for me, I like to pretend March 1st is the first day of spring.
  21. Yeah, those are Canadian prices. Order was 245 before tax, 275 after. I've ordered a few hunting items from them before, they shipped quickly and I didn't have any problems. A lot of their items are well priced even when they aren't on sale.
  22. The subject of a good starting musky set up often comes up so I figured I'd mention this just in case any one else is interested and still has some Christmas money burning a whole in their pockets. I just ordered this actually. St Croix premier musky rods, either 7 and a half or 8 footers in MH, for 155 dollars, and abu C3's 6500 series for 90 bucks. Shipping is supposedly free on orders over a 100, whether or not an additional charge for oversized items applies remains to be seen but on checkout my total, including taxes, was 275 dollars. Not too shabby. I know you could debate the pros and cons of the C3 but at that price I don't think you can beat it. Wholesale sports online if anyone is interested. I hope this isn't interpreted as spam as I have no affiliation with them as I have no affiliation with them, just wanted to share what I see as a killer deal. Cheers, can't wait to get back in the musky game!
  23. Nice. Thanks for sharing. Almost makes me want get off my butt and get out there. Almost.
  24. I believe Frenchmens bay was once kind of a hot spot for big pike through the ice. Still the case?
  25. Crappy. Be interesting to know what other mediocre players they are aggressively pursuing. If it's true that Bautista would accept a one year offer of 17 millionish they should sign him. Familiar face with potential and not saddled with a long term risk. Who's really left out there that's better than Bautista if he has a decent year, and how much are they gonna cost over how long?
