  1. 30 years ago, when I fished the Niagara all winter , had stuff taped up with this to avoid hand to direct metal contact https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/drscholls-moleskin-plus-padding/6000016952930 edit : back to float reel backing , heard of guys getting those thin adhesive backed cork sheets like they use on the back of coasters and precision cutting strips to build up an arbor on their reels , low weight and won't hold water. BTW my first float reel was a Grice and Young back in the early 80's.
  2. Very nice, last time I saw anything approaching that in Grimsby was back in '89.
  3. Yes, think that is it, right down to the black braided line. We used to set the metal garbage pail lids out on the lawn and practice casting accuracy, by 12 I was pretty good. The lids gave a satisfying clang when you were on the mark. Bought my own narrow spool Sportcast when I was 14/ 1964 picking strawberries. Edit: Inglis made a lot of stuff back then
  4. I think there was a Pflueger model named the Akron back in the day. Dad tournament casted back around 1950, I inherited his wornouts for a while, think he went to a Langley when I got the Wonder Reel. He was pretty good, there was a 1st place trophy for 5/8 ounce bait and a fly accuracy 1st place , won at the Toronto Anglers and Hunter's competition at the sportsman show. Had a good teacher. 👍
  5. Just be sure it is no stretch dacron line, they were getting it online in different colours, some were even neon and they would match it to the colour of their reels so it looks real purty through the ventilation holes. Stay away from any natural fibre that would hold water.
  6. Cortland Micron Dacron in 30 lb was the go to fly line backing back in the day. edit : some guys are buying spools of kite string for float reel backing
  7. A green Shakespeare Wonder Reel, made by Inglis, the washing machine people, it was a hand me down from dad and a steel rod as well, it was hexagonal in X section and I believe it was made by True Temper, the same people that made good quality garden tools. Inglis had a plant in Hamilton and True Temper had one in St Catharines, like to believe it was locally made. You won't find that today.
  8. From what they are saying it is $1.50 an hour or you can get a season's pass at the machine for $15 at the Whirlpool, this is what is posted on the Niagara fishing forum
  9. We got one here too, same small town wait time usually. When I lived in Stoney Creek , almost 40 years ago the one there on Kenora was a nightmare , can't imagine what it is like there now.
  10. Would it not be easier just to get a new short piece ?
  11. My birthday was May 8th, renewed it online around the end of the May , got my sticker back in July sometime.
  12. EGB spoons were the ticket back when I used to fish spots like that, the ones with copper tones on them were best
  13. Actually they were " Believers " not Swim Whizzes, about as much difference between those 2 as there is between Kwikfish and Flatfish
  14. Years ago I won 5 or 6 smaller jointed Swim Whizzes in the St. Kitts Spring Salmon Derby, why are they giving out Musky lures in a salmon derby I thought ?? Heck those things were Chinny catching machines, flat lined shallow in the spring or off the riggers for staging fish late summer, ya never know 😂 edit : my mistakes just saw the remaining ones and they were " Believers " virtually identical to Swim Whizzes "
  15. If using Cyberflix you might want to look into Trakt.tv and Real Debrid as well.
  16. Weekend cottage renovators, gotta be back in the city when the dump opens Monday morning. Like Irish said they should leave the dumps open in cottage country on the weekend,
  17. Seems slow, how are you measuring speed ? it could be off and you are going faster in reality
  18. Fished there a few summers years ago camping at the Prov.Park, we did well on a couple of shoals just SW of Ferguson Island but it was always an evening bite, 7 to 10 PM, was always a few boats grouped together in a small area at prime time. Never did well on pickerel during the day.
  19. The ones with the Hula dancer on the back work the best 😁
  20. Think there are a few Benos, Lazy Ikes and maybe a Ping-A -T as well, quite the haul 👍
  21. Just remember your sonar measures how far the cannonball is from the transducer , not how far down it is. 75 feet from the transducer with the cables angled back a bit may only be 60 feet down even though they are marking 75 feet on the screen. Revisit you high school geometry.
  22. I was there 20 years ago, as I recall the majourity of cottages were water access, including the friend's I was at. The access road on the south end dead ended at a marina with a large parking lot, maybe it has changed but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
  23. Not fishing but this showed up on my facebook this morning, thought it was funny
