The back end of my quad collapsed through the ice on 22 inches once, fortunately the front end stayed up. Stuff happens. Floyd Hales is an excellent operation!

Picked up 2 saltist 50's this winter for leadcore and 300 copper. The higher retrieve should make the junk lines more bearable. I'm ready for open water also!

You can get ibycus free mapping software for Garmin, it's pretty darn good and it's completely free! A member here helped me get set up with it!

Don't know where you live, but Kingsway tackle at the top of Guelph spools power pro for $12 per hundred yards and Colin is a great guy to deal with!

I use 15 or 20lb power pro on a lot of my spinning reels. It's cheap by the yard at my local shop and lasts a long time. For pike I've been using thin wire black steel leaders for ages. I bought a pack of about 40 maybe ten years ago and haven't managed to work my way through them. I use fluoro quite a bit for steelhead and pickerel but I see no reason for using it with pike or bass. But by all means give it a go. Power pro is pretty good stuff though!

My jiggin hand is twitching, and my brain is on the Detroit river for some reason. I was going to hitch the boat the other day to head over to Huron for a half day but none of my regular crew was free! If this is the best of winter, I'm ready for spring. Otherwise freeze already and let's have atter!

This back deck was done by a member here who I bought my boat from. The boat is pretty much the same size as yours. This is the best pic I currently have, sorry but you get the idea. It has 3 attachment points per side, is completely removable and is aluminum angle reinforced on the end and underneath. You could easily install a seat post mount and put a seat on it to comfortably drive a tiller then remove for fishing. Myself I would prefer this than a guy fishing right beside me on a boat of this size. If it where a 20 footer then maybe. Anyhow, just another idea!

My sense of adventure crapped out on me when all the kids showed up. In my 20's I traveled all over the province, and a good chunk of the northern states to hunt and fish. Then kids came along, and I've got em from driving age to age 2. Add to that, what Raf said, with limited time available, I can be at the doorstep of some pretty awesome fishing with less than a 3rd of the drive. I would love to get back on Lake of the Woods though. I had some amazing fishing there in my late teens and 20's. I still remember catching bass after bass, with a heavy dose of pickerel mixed in right off the docks in Kenora. Never mind the good times once the boat was in the water! You live in a beautiful area. I will get back there one of these days!

I don't think that's necessarily true. Perhaps some people have an ego that big, but if I buy something that's a dog, I don't mind people knowing. Good products deserve good press, crap service or bad product deserves to be mentioned!

If the Glastron is a cottage type cruisers, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. Our runabout is a mid 90's glass boat designed for the cottage sunbathing set. It rides like a bag of crap, matter of fact my boat will take chop better than it does. On the other hand my buddies Grady white 24 with a 250 Yamaha will eat Lake Ontario 5 footers Like they aren't even there. Just different purpose built glass boats.

I've owned a few boats. Mainly Lund or Starcraft. They've all been excellent. Currently in a 98 Lund that doesn't leak a drop and is very solid. I would look at alumacraft also, from what I've seen and their reputation they look pretty good!

Emily lake is a good reccomendation. I used to go there quite a bit. The fishing can be pretty good for both bass and musky in the river, and it's not to far of a ride to the main lake. The campsite is nice and it should fit your distance requirements.
