  1. I generally fish from a shelter, unless it's really nice out. I use power pro braid, generally 20lb with a fluoro leader for most pickerel/pike/laker fishing and 3lb mono on my panfish rods. I do keep one medium action outfit spooled with mono in case I have to fish outside in the cold. I tried nanofil last winter, cause I use it all summer long, but it shreds to bits in the cold.

  3. Looks good!
  4. If find they get in the way of everything myself, your mileage may vary.
  5. If your in a hut, don't go over 30 inches or you'll regret it. I have a pair of 36 inch rods that hardly see any ice time as I mostly fish in a shelter unless the weather is perfect. They're great out in the open though.
  6. Canadian tire does this every year, on a lot of old stock, quality of item has nothing to do with it.
  7. Very sad to hear. Seems like Rice takes someone every November. Generally its duck hunters.
  8. If anyone wants a Jiffy, they have one in stock online at the Fergus store. 3hp STX for $265 or something like that. I am auger rich or I would've jumped on it. If someone is set on having it, but coming from a long way, I'll store it until you can pick up.
  9. Satisfsction guaranteed or money refunded, and they mean it!
  10. Most of the lowrance units of that nature have 83/200mhz transducers. If the plug works the transducer will likely work. The only monkey wrench could be chirp. I don't know much about chirp other than I have it, and I can't tell if returns are better because I have it. But I'm happy with the unit so I guess chirp is ok.
  11. It'll have a transducer for sure, but your existing transducer will probably work anyway!
  12. Thank you for the offer. I bought it online and they will confirm the order once they find it (usually get an email next day). If I can't make it out in a timely fashion I'll let you know!
  13. There's only 2 left now. Act fast on a screaming deal. I was tempted to be a jerk and buy all 3 and resell, but there are only so many hours in the day lol. Thanks for the tip!
  14. Buddy and I bought 2 helix 5 sonar/GPS for $234 plus tax each. Will make a nice upgrade to the 385 I use for ice fishing. Almost had a 55lb thrust Minn Kota I pilot unit for $550 plus tax. Was going to buy as a backup, I just couldn't resist the price. The order went through but they cancelled it after spending 40 minutes searching for the unit. Spoke to them on the phone and they stated it appeared to be ghost inventory, too bad, that would've been the deal of the century. I did also get a new float coat for $100.
  15. If that where true harvest would be way up next season. We where catching piles of 15-17's this season. I don't mind it the way it is, big numbers fishery and my kids have a ball, plus we usually get just enough for a fry, even if we have to add a bass or some perch to the mix. We always get some jumbo perch while trolling.
  16. Bought my last set of outdoor lights at costco, all LED. Couldn't tell you the brand but if they are all good this year then it will be the 7th season on them with no failures. Maybe see what Costco is selling?
  17. Can't go wrong with the new birds and speaking as someone who went from a 5 inch screen to a 7, you'll have no regrets there! You got quite the deal!
  18. I'd go with the helix 7 all day every day out of that list! Years ago the birds sucked, but they have advanced leaps and bounds to the point I'd take one over a lowrance any day. I run a raymarine on my boat, but previously had a 597, and use a 385 for the ice and as a portable. Excellent units, and I understand the helix is an improvement still!
  19. Last trip to Nipissing in the summer we boated piles of pickerel. We kept one legal and a few bass for a fish fry.
  20. He is, it's a good deal and a tiller. I'm just not looking for a tiller anymore. Check your pm, I'll forward what he sent me!
  21. Zoo board was a great site, a shame it's gone. I was on it from the time it updated once a week or so. There are a lot of people moved on. They probably still read from time to time. I read for ages before I ever jumped on board to post.
  22. Definately a later version. I've read this board for years prior to joining. It's been around prior to 2002 for sure. I found it from the old zoology site at u of t. The "what's bitin in Toronto area" site.
  23. When I can't turn the handle anymore, or something goes clunk or bang, then I service a reel. Otherwise I just fish em.
  24. My locally owned independant doesn't sell sonar, and he is honest enough to tell you that he can get it for you, but you're better off to buy it elsewhere as he can't match the price. The only guy that does sell sonar locally, I don't like enough to drop that kind of money there.
