  1. That's some pretty serious dedication to fly tying. I have a Tupperware full of fluff for when I'm short wooly buggers for steelhead, but that guy took it to a whole new level!
  2. The touchscreen unit with structure scan transducer. Your thoughts? It will be a second unit mainly for the side imaging. I like the fact that it had 455/800 frequencies whereas bird is one or the other. I don't need auto chart function, so the lowrance seems more feature packed than a helix. Thanks
  3. We all have days like that, good luck with the afternoon bite!
  4. Thanks, I'll grab a couple to put in the boat. I'm always losing the boat knife!
  5. I love steelhead fishing, but since the ice started I haven't had quite enough icefishing yet. I wouldn't mind some more cold weather
  6. Don't know, buts its hella ugly!
  7. Friend, If there is an argument to be had, you will have it. Good fishing to you, wherever you choose to do it!
  8. Go back and read what you quoted, and maybe I'll make more sense.
  9. I find it amusing when the pot calls the kettle black, that is all. In the history of my time on this website, I haven't reported a single post. If I allowed people to offend me on the Internet, there is no way I'd survive my paying job. I do however wholeheartedly support the banning of political threads.
  10. Three Castles resort on lower buckhorn has always been good to us!
  11. Good fishing! Congrats.
  12. Nothing wrong with this website at all. I enjoy getting info on fish finders, trolling motors, rods and reels, heating and AC and car repair all under one roof. But the banning of political threads will certainly give a small portion of posters a whole lot less air time. Now that was a good decision!
  13. lol.
  14. I would do the exchange. As for the sonar, I'm sure it would work fine. I used to use an old greyscale lowrance x28 and it worked just fine to mark jigs and fish, so a newer colour unit should work great. I used to use jury rig solutions for boat transducers, but they are a pain. If I had the option for exchange (which you do with a new in package bird transducer) I'd do it every time!
  15. If you contact humminbird in Burlington, they will exchange the open water transducer for an ice ducer for no charge if the transducer is unused!
  16. Perfect, thanks. My fishing buddy leaned on me pretty hard as well, I'm pretty well sold on the Terrova and am going to do the upgrade. I think it will be worth it given how much I use the motor.
  17. I fished with a flasher for years, and went to a GPS/sonar unit with flasher option about 3 years ago. I never use the flasher anymore. Modern sonars are so responsive there is no need to!
  18. Buy the one without DI if it's just for ice fishing. Both will work but no need for DI on the ice, and yes I had a down imaging humminbird that I used on the ice for a while. I've gone back to standard sonar!
  19. Ive caught lakers and whities on the perch grounds out near Hales, but it's not a common event. Caught plenty of herring though!
  20. Thanks for all the info guys. Wind or current is usually the deciding factor for run time in my case. Sometimes I can be running the 12 volt motor pretty hard, other times I don't break 50%. I've got lots of good information to consider now!
  21. I have 1 group 31,but regularily carry a spare battery and sometimes I'm changing out. I only have room for 1 battery in my forward compartment unless I modify my storage. A deal came my way on the terrova and I was already trying to figure out how to run 2 batteries in order to extend run time without switching batteries and maybe reduce some of the abuse that they are taking by being run flat. Currently running 55lb thrust.
  22. Dave, I use it for pickerel trolling, there is nothing like it and a kicker won't do what I want. I've also been using it to steer when trolling for salmon on my main. My bowmount is probably in use about 75 percent of the time I'm fishing. Mike, thanks for the input. It's probably a very similar boat.
  23. Thanks for the info, Bondar the pics would be helpful. I have a single battery box in the front. I've thought about moving them all to the rear and just using the front box as extra storage as well, but modifying is an idea also. The boat is a 98 model and the front deck is a little punky on one side so I'm going to redoe it this spring.
  24. Got almost everything I need. Did pretty well at Christmas though!
  25. Is yours factory rigged with batteries to the back? I would like to go that route but didn't want to run additional cable. Maybe i'm just being lazy.
