I'd go with the 3m 5200 as well. Canadian tire sells it.

Presumably the seller can tow, because they have a boat. If not, presumably you can tow because you are buying a boat. Offer to take the seller and his boat to a marina to have it checked over at your expense if you know nothing about boats. If he won't agree to that walk away no matter how good the price. Good prices come in late fall and winter. Very seldom in the spring market.

Side imaging on a pontoon, that is hardcore!!! Looks fun!

That would indicate that most of what your looking at is appropriately priced given current market conditions. The US dollar has pushed the price of used boats quite high at the moment. What would have been overpriced a couple of years ago is now the going rate, and as you've noticed, anything not ridiculously priced is gone quickly. Kijiji has its flaws, but overall it's one of the best venues to buy and sell that I've been on. You just have to know how to weed through the nonsense, or the guys with big eyes and no money. Try selling on Facebook, all the guys are broke and want everything for peanuts or free. As for buying on Kijiji, if it's well priced and you want it, be prepared to act quickly. I've gotten some smoking deals over the years but I don't negotiate over email, I get a phone number, follow up with a call, see the item and if it's good I've got cash. I will negotiate, but if something I want is well priced I don't haggle too much. If a boat is worth 20k, then you'll probably be told to pound sand if you come in at 17k, and somebody else will get that boat! I bought 2 church's tackle walleye boards and a nearly new tekota 600LC off a guy near me on Kijiji for $200 a few weeks ago. I didnt try to argue his price once I saw the condition of the reel. New Church boards are $50 a piece and a tekota is $260. Add tax to that and his used price was more than fair! Take a look at what it will cost you to buy new and figure out your used price from there. This is also the absolute worst time to buy a boat! Good luck.

I use salted minnows pretty often. I've also used them on the Detroit. Usually we fish a soft plastic with a minnow head on the hook. It works great. For perch I hardly ever use anything other than salted minnows. If your Stillwater rigging them live bait is hard to beat, but for active jigging all your looking for is the smell of meat!

If you can find an early 2000's Nissan 2 Stroke 9.8 you'll have a very reliable motor. I bought one about 8 years ago for duck hunting and we have since put it on the cottage tinny once the jonnyrude died. Less than 60lbs and runs great, very little smoke with amsoil. The engine is made by tohatsu as well.

I don't know, I'm on the water a fair bit during the season. I haven't seen too many broken down late model Merc's. It wouldn't be my first choice of engine, but I think they may be enjoying a poor rep from years ago. On the other hand, I've personally witnessed a couple of broken down late model Polaris ATV's while out ice fishing, so I still believe that one!

Well if it does that's great, cheaper alternative for those that want both!

Says in the description that it doesn't include a foot pedal. If they have added a feature where you can order a foot pedal and use it, I couldn't say. I would be surprised though, that's cutting into the terrova market for less $$. For a foot pedal you need to go to the terrova or an xi5.
-
Depends on what you want. If I could recommend any one thing it would be to get an ipilot equipped unit. As for Powerdrive or terrova, it really depends on how much you want a foot pedal as that's the main difference in Ipilot units. My experience is that I have used the foot pedal maybe once or twice. I run almost entirely off the remote, so for me it's not an issue. I'm not a fan of cable drives so can't help you there. I imagine they are pretty handy if you are a bass guy. Sail seems the most economical if you can wait into they have the 15 percent off sale.
-
I am very surprised to hear that. Out of dozens of orders over the years, the only places that I've never been charged outrageous fees are from cabelas and bass pro. Every time they ship, they ensure all brokerage fees are included in the final price. I won't order from any small US operations unless they ship USPS, but Cabelas and Bass pro have always been solid. You must have had a bit of bad luck.

Thanks for the video!

Looking at buying a truck cap. Where to buy?
porkpie replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
Bought my last cap at king city trailers. They where good to deal with and the prices where no worse than anywhere else. -
Nice area, looks like your having fun!

I thought I was going to be pimpin with two 7 inch screens. Sonar envy.

4 bank, on-board chargers - Which one is worth the $?
porkpie replied to MSBruno's topic in General Discussion
I charge a group 31 with a 4amp onboard charger. It works just fine but it takes forever to charge. If I am fishing multiple day in a row, I will put my 10amp charger on the battery. It works great for charging when your not fishing every day though! -
There is a lot you can do with the GPS feature. From controlling trolling speed, locking down your heading, utilizing spot lock, setting your speed and heading to control a drift in heavier winds and the list goes on. Very versatile, and once you use one you would never regret having spent the money. Two of my most frugal buddies both went straight out and bought them after fishing on my boat and seeing the possibilities.
-
A GPS enabled trolling motor is the best money I've ever spent on my boat, no exceptions. If I had to, I'd fish with a greyscale sonar and a hand held GPS for marking spots before I'd give up the trolling motor. I've used my foot pedal maybe twice since I got the motor.

Bummer, I stop in the Tonawanda store several times a year when I'm down fishing. It's always been a great store!

The baseboard heating really does put it out of reach for the common man!

My locking pin has functioned fine for the 7 years it's been on my F150. I Clean the lock mechanism once a year. Your not alone.

You can get a decent cottage on Nippising for a week in that price range. If you hit early July you sometimes run into monster shad fly hatches though. A bit later in the month would be ideal. You probably should book soon, we just booked last week for August and a lot of places where nearly booked. The fishing is reliable and there are lots of nice sand beaches around and being close to North Bay offers other options for things to do. I'm going up to Nippissing twice this summer, and we have a family cottage, so that tells you how much we like it!
