Kill the political threads with fire Art! I used to throw in my 2 cents on them, but have stopped. They just go downhill and totally detract from what these types of boards are about. And they always devolve into mudslinging!

Anyone else getting ready for the controlled hunt?

Nice deer, very high tined, should make an impressive mount on the wall! -
Watch your fronts on the f150 and replace the brake clips yearly WD. Mine have a tendency to bind in the clips and it will cause a slight drag on one pad if I don't service and replace the hardware often, it could be mistake for a seized or sticky slide pin. Don't forget to clean out the rust and debris that forms below the clips on the caliper as well, that alone can cause poor performance. Funny enough my rear brakes had 100k and never an issue until I changed em.

That's about average price for a 4 way brake job at a dealer, including new rotors. Servicing your brakes will lengthen their life for sure. I do mine when I change my tires seasonally, and once a year on my f150. I generally spring for a new brake hardware kit once per year for both vehicles also, new clips etc.

Just an update, I got a couple reasonably priced Berts rod holders used, so that made the decision for me. As an FYI to anyone interested, you can change the angle of the rod holder while it's still in the track, you just have to unscrew the hold downs until they are flush with the bottom of the rod holders then twist. I'm hoping I don't regret not buying cannons.

Kenzy, I recently did a lot of research on furnaces and AC, mainly AC as my furnace is only 13 years old, but I got the info on costs etc as I was having them in anyway. I spoke to all the big companies, and a bunch of small independents as well as my buddies best friend who works as an hvac guy for a local regional government and had his own business in residential hvac for a long time. To a man they all said the carrier furnace of today, and for the last 7-8 years have been crap. Cracked heat exchangers on a routine basis etc, and no end to other issues as well. I guess carrier was sold and they aren't the furnace they where. It's a shame, the furnace I have is a Carrier and it's been bullet proof! Something to consider.

I hunt the December controlled hunt and have done so for the last 10 years. That way I get a week of rifle in november and dabble in the shotgun hunt on my regular days off and don't have to use any vacation! Seems to me that the December hunt is one of the few times I hunt deer with snow on the ground anymore! Good luck! -
I'm with him. I like ice fishing, but it can wait!

Fishing forums that appreciate a fishing report?

You can't tell some of these guys anything. I've found it best to just state it once and move on. As they say, experience is the best teacher. I'll be darned if I'm editing pictures and scrubbing GPS co-ords off my cell pictures just so I can show how long my wiener is, or isn't. I'm happy to let them all think it's tiny, besides I was never very photogenic! -
Lund WC/Princecraft Yukon/Legend Widebody - for my 9.9HP tiller
porkpie replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
I believe most manufacturers make a shallower draft 14 footer that is a lighter gauge more suited to 9.9 motors. Years ago I had a light 14 that would plane (just barely) with a 6hp, but it was much lighter than the deep v utility boats out there. -

You might get 15mph with one guy in the boat and limited gear. I could run give or take 24mph with 2 and gear in the boat with a 20hp, 18-19 with 2 in the boat with a 15, but it was a bit anemic on a Starcraft 14 that was as the same hull weight and interior design. Very similar to the boats your looking at. The only motor that really made the boat shine with 2 guys was the 20, hence the reason I upgraded. If I where you I'd look at their lighter duty 14's for that 9.9. Just a thought, but I've been there and I don't know that you'll be happy performance wise. As for brand, any that you've mentioned are decent in the utility market! -
Fishing forums that appreciate a fishing report?

This is the south. And by that I mean anything below Sudbury or North bay. I stopped putting reports online about a dozen years ago, I've seen spots burn hard as a result of the Internet. The only place I'll put a "report" is on my private Facebook page, and even then only if it's a really good day, or if I'm out with my kids or if I'm fishing with a partner and we do well. My longtime fishing buddies are all very experienced fisherman and have no desire to see me posing selfies of 5 pound steelhead or 2 pound pickerel on Facebook, or fish laying in the dirt (no that was not a shot at you, just a fact about my fishing buddies). The only people who will see what I occasionally put on Facebook are folks I know personally and that includes a couple folks on this board. Anyone else I could give a damn, I don't need to measure the length of my Johnson online. Post away as it suits you but most of us living south of the IQ line long ago gave up putting stuff out there. The last time I mentioned anything about the lake our family cottage was on I got a few PMs looking for spots. I'm not about to cut out backgrounds to take photos and if I posted them online as is, I'd have new best friends all summer. -
Nice pictures! Don't let the Internet get you down. Years ago I used to take this stuff to heart. Now I just look at it for what it is, a fun distraction from the day to day. My day to day is full with my Wife and kids, friends and the outdoors, looks like yours is as well. The guys who let web sites turn them bitter need to rethink things, it's just not that important. Water off a ducks back!

Nice, fishing has been tough. Rivers taking what water they get and just absorbing it. Long hot summers suck!!

Great info, thanks.

Good to know thanks, I've never had them in my hands. I'd like to find a place that sells both. But I'm pretty sure that would be a lot of driving.

I liked the idea of some adjustability in the base, otherwise I'd have just bought the Berts by now. I use the downeasters on the Berts mounts for dipsys and it's an excellent set up, but I'm planning on running some track across the back of my casting deck to mount cannon ball holders and rocket launchers for junk lines or moving rods further inboard off the riggers instead of having to clear them when fighting a fish off one side. I was thinking it might be nice to be able to move the angle also, just not sure how big a deal it will be.
-
Anyone with first hand experience with both of these rod holders? I'd like your opinions on them overall, what your preference is and why and also which has the smallest base. I'll probably be ordering online as my local guy doesn't carry either. I have berts track mounts for down easters and am pretty happy with them, but my rocket launcher style holders are scottys and I trust them for pickerel and pike but not much else. Thanks!

Mainly self serve around here. If your far enough from a city your probably still able to do it!

I have the Berkly one. It works pretty good, used it on quite a few big chinooks.

I get a discount through work, but I pay about $350 a year for insurance on my 2005 350cc 4x4 quad and a 1998 500cc snowmobile. I've been told this is a very good price for both, and I'm not sure how much the work discount factors in. A lot may have to do with the size of the quad etc.

When my furnace doesn't turn on I call the landlord..... Unfortunately I am the landlord. That's probably what I would do if my furnace wasn't working in a rental.

They put the horsepower ratings in big numbers on the back of the motor. That's how many horsepower the motor is.
