  1. https://flow-rite.com/products/marine/aerators/ma-110 Perhaps you could offer them a simple and reasonably priced solution rather than "busting them" Mr. Plod. Please don't stop by our local lake kids live release derby or we'll all be marching off the dock with our hands up, including the 5 year olds with sunfish in sand pails.
  2. How far are you willing to drive?
  3. That kind of defeats the purpose. I don't know what the hummingbird units are like, but I know that on my lowrance I can locate some rocks to the side of my boat, and immediately press my finger down on the screen over the rockpile. This stops the screen and let's me put a waypoint down immediately so I can swing around on it and do my next pass either right beside it or right over it. I would find it far less useful without GPS.
  4. I routinely cast 5 gram floats on a casting reel combined with a 13 foot rod. I can't see why you couldn't chuck 1/4 ounce lures with the right reel. My casting distance is pretty good, but I've never compared it to a spinning rig. Or you could just get a decent ball bearing snap swivel and use that on your spinning rig. Torpedo trolling products makes a real nice 30lb test ball bearing snap swivel that has a pretty small profile. I use them on all of my trout/pickerel trolling rods and run both bottom bouncers and rapalas, spoons etc. off of them. No failures so far, and very little line twist.
  5. If you use trolling bags hang them off the bow cleats on either side. I inherited 2 of them with my new boat last year and found them a pain when trolling. But they just got in the way at the back of the boat. Long story short I now have a kicker, but definately hang them off the front if you use em! I gave up and just used my bowmount to troll pickerel speed last season on smaller waterbodies, but that doesn't work so well on Erie when the wind is up.
  6. I like having the option. I troll a lot, but a lot of it is in water 30 foot and under so I sit in the drivers chair and mark rocks and other underwater features as they come up. Then I can turn around on them and make a pass. When I'm on the Great Lakes I don't use it at all but I've heard some guys use it to find bait balls. I may try it sometime. It's sure not mandatory, but worth the few extra bucks if your upgrading anyway in my opinion.
  7. It was slower this week than it was last week. That major weather front upset the apple cart. It should be settling down and next week should be good fishing if the weather doesn't go bananas again. Go with the lightest possible jig you can get away with. We stick with 5/8th most of the time but on shallower runs will fish 1/2 ounce. I have yet to meet the drift that requires a 1 ounce jig and I tend to only use 3/4 in 40 plus foot of water. Make sure you buy your Michigan license so you can hopscotch back and forth. A day license is $11 including the sports card. Save your sportscard number for future trips as it will save you some headaches. Some of the warmer water at this time of year can be found on the US side from 2 rocks all the way down past the steel plants, and through ecorrse and Trenton channel etc. It was 2-3 degrees warmer yesterday than upriver or the Canadian side. Use stinger hooks, more than 50 percent of our fish come on the stinger in cold weather/water. Good luck!
  8. Port Dalhousie. Forans is the marina in Grimsby. I would take port Dalhousie launch over Forans any day.
  9. I have the totalscan transducer on my boat. There is no way that thing will stay put on a suction cup mount. You will have to take Sinker up on his offer, or make something solid out of wood and C clamps as suggested. The suction cup works great for my portable bird transducer, but it's tiny in comparison to the total scan!
  10. You want nice beaches and to catch walleye hand over fist? Lake Nippissing, problem is there isn't much camping. You could do Restoule, and make the 45 minute trip to south shore Nippissing a few times and make a day of it. The fishing is decent around restoule, but the walleye fishing is slower. The run up to Nippising is worth it for pickerel. Don't be afraid to run far offshore. The picks stack up all over the lake on sand flats during the summer, and you can rig them, or bottom bounce or jig. I let the wind dictate what I do on any given day. North bay or Callander are good places to stay. PM me and I can hook you up with the name of a nice lodge if you want a full week, or a clean motel close to the boat launch if you just want to stay a few days. The lodge may be completely booked by now, but you could give it a try if your not stuck on the camping thing. The motel option is good if you want to just stay for a couple days of fishing then camp around restoule.
  11. Art, Hell I'm a gun guy, even own an AR, but this is politics pure and simple, and it will only go badly. Shut er down, and we can get back discussions on concrete, building bird houses and fishing from time to time!
  12. Someone grab this. I sold a 2010 terrova 80lb ipilot at the height of last season for $1200 and had a line up of guys wanting it! Good deal!
  13. Yes, odd place, but I guess they service Eugenia as well as having a fair amount of Owen sound business. It takes me a little bit longer to go there rather than the local place, but I have more confidence in Ron!
  14. Blue sky is decent. For good, you need to head up to Priceville and see Mia and Ron. It's worth the drive, they are good people and Ron has many years of experience.
  15. One of our best runs is the ridge directly behind the hunt camp. First thing in the morning right after breakfast. It's a 2 minute walk to some of the best watches. The generator usually starts up right around 5:30am. Quite a few deer have been shot on that ridge!
  16. I've never regretted time fishing Dan! 4 days straight on the ice is pretty cool!
  17. I installed the new onboard charger, hooked up the fuel line of my new kicker to the main tank, and changed out some old mono on a few poles! Just need to load tackle, fill rod locker and put the Minnkota and riggers back on the boat and spring is happening! First steelhead of the year was last week so ice fishing and winter can piss off!
  18. If priced right stuff sells quick, if it's sitting it's more than the market will bear!
  19. Looks like fun, but the cold can beat it as far as I'm concerned. If the winds permit I'll be in the boat on the big lake early next week.
  20. I did 20 years in a buoy o boy one piece. It worked and gave piece of mind. Last winter my Xmas gift was a striker ice 2 piece suit. There's no contest, the 2 piece striker is some of the best ice wear I've ever worn, and I wore it for spring salmon season also. I'd never go back to a one piece, and the 2 piece is very warm.
  21. If you want to license it rather than swap stickers, make an appointment with the commissioner of oaths at your local city hall. Create a statement on your computer that you purchased it from the previous owner for x dollars, have misplaced your bill of sale and have the commissioner certify the document. It usually costs $20 to $30 to do this, then send the document in with your application for licensing. That's the legit way to do it. I've heard that other people have just made up receipts, but don't have any firsthand knowledge of that
  22. I don't know if the app I use would work for the 10 day stretch.
  23. Are you on a regularily repeating shift schedule?
  24. Maybe plow guy covering his butt when he claimed he couldn't plow the lot overnight (or didn't want to try) so he called the town?? Weird, I've never had a problem there, but I've never left my rig for 3 days either so can't say?
  25. When the option and funds are available, I opt for the larger screen every time. I can't say I know anything about Garmin sonar though.
