Diving with the biggest Great White on record ...
porkpie replied to Jds63's topic in General Discussion
Holy schmoly. Thats uuuuuggggeeee -
Couple things, I have a very deep 18.5 foot boat. I run my kicker with 80lb terrova for steering all the time. The autopilot is by far the best feature of the minn kota for a troller. I don’t even have a bow sonar because at least 70% of my time is spent trolling. I might put my helix up front at some point but I just haven’t got around to it. The only time I really miss it is when vertical jigging. Unless it’s very windy, then the 80lb terrova is fine. Really I just bump the throttle on the kicker if I need more. If I was planning to just troll on the minn kota then it might be a problem on windier days with the 80. Absolutely spend the money on the Minn kota. It’s the best cash a troller in a tin boat can spend. I use spotlock, but only when fishing vertical for perch or jigging. It doesn’t factor in as much as I thought it wouldn’t but definitely useful!

All that is left is the mooching reel and the Abu silvermax. -
This will keep some boats in the water late this year!

I don’t know, it was a surprise to us but apparently not to some other guys we talked to at the launch. We weren’t even dragging bottom at the time, maybe 35 down over 80. -

We caught lakers off the lighthouse at long point this summer when trolling for pickerel. Surprised us but apparently not that uncommon! -
The fellow that initially posed the question on another board is using a clam plate which is quite short when used with an auger on its own. I made an extension for mine primarily so I didn’t have to bend over to drill holes. Ice thickness didn’t have much to do with it for me anyway.

Brian already won the lure, your too late!

LOL, I probably do somewhere in the basement Brian!

People ask for help everywhere. On every forum I frequent people ask for info on something or other. Often info they could google or call a store about. What’s the sense of this post on this forum other than mud slinging for no reason. He could’ve mocked the dude on the other forum if he wanted to. Answer that question reasonably and I’ll mail you a new in package AC shiner!

I really don’t see the need to post something from another forum over here, other than a need to knock someone. If your really need to know why, maybe send the guy a private message to satisfy yourself. There is no point to this. While the forum is a little slow, it doesn’t need this kind of traffic.

fish finder upgrade - lowrance hook 2 - splitshot/tripleshot
porkpie replied to rob v's topic in General Discussion
If you fish Erie, use it to mark walleye schools off the side (they will show up) mark waypoint and troll over them at targeted depth. It’s unreal! -
I run a fuel with a 6 inch auger. It will make Swiss cheese of ice. I ran a 6 inch on a standard Milwaukee compact with 500 inch/lbs for a couple of years with no problems whatsoever. I only upgraded to the fuel because I wanted a hammer drill anyway and Home Depot had a special last year with an impact driver and 5ah batteries. It’s pretty awesome and I can get 50 holes on a charged 5ah battery through a foot of ice and that was with the Milwaukee compact. Haven’t tried it with the fuel. My buddy uses the dewalt but he was already invested in dewalt tools and batteries. He runs a 6 inch as well but I don’t think he’d chance the 8 due to plenty of user feedback that the dewalts can’t handle the 8 inch for very long.

Who cleans cork? For that matter who cleans waders or fishing coats. They are meant to stand up on their own!

Nice rig!

Take a look at the manual and see if there is any reference to Ardisam . They are the parent company to Eskimo augers, and have been making the rapala gas augers since they came out as well as a few others.

I am going to do my best to control the population..... Might need some help though LOL.

Yeah man I must've misread the whole thing.... Perils of night shift this week and crappy sleep. I just looked at the CT app, that's a smoking price for the buddy heater! I might buy one, just looked at my CT money account and its flush!
-
The little buddy is great as long as your expectations are reasonable. I run mine in my single flip over and in a 3 man pop up. It takes the edge off and makes things pretty comfortable but you won't be fishing in a t-shirt. I've been pretty satisfied with it. If you want tshirt weather find a deal on the regular buddy heater, that does a fantastic job! Good price with the HD match.

It's hard to imagine better. We had many trips where the rods started popping the minute we set lines to the minute we'd had enough and pulled them. But hey I'll take it! Some very good news for Erie trollers!!

Suggestions about Oil Pressure on a 2004 4X4 Silverado
porkpie replied to jimmer's topic in General Discussion
Every time I have to put $1500 into a vehicle, I consider that it's only about 3 months of car payments. Maybe less. So if I only get 3 more months out of the vehicle, I'm really not that far behind. Last year I had replaced the suspension and steering components within a year as well as bought some new snows for my 2005 SUV. Then some dummy rearended me at a stop light and wrote it off for me! That hurt. Wife was happy that she got a new SUV though. I was not, as I had intended to drive it for a couple more years. So if your a gambler just consider what car/truck payments might be and decide if it's worth it to do the work. You may drive it for a couple more years, but it's always a gamble. -
You want to buys some line counters Brian? I'm probably going to be upgrading at least 3! ?
