  1. different situation, here's why: "None of the initial calls indicated that anyone on the bus had been threatened, Douglas-Cook said" Yatim was not at all innocent.... the situation didn't need to end the way it did, that much I can agree with....the Forcillo sentencing was adequate imo, he messed up and will pay the consequences...but everybody calling Yatim a kid, "tiny" knife, etc...please, give me a break, that's pure bull crap....he was an adult...he had a knife, 5" blade is not a tiny swiss army pocket knife...he threatened and attacked people on the bus....he did not have a history of mental illness, no medical records and his family claims he didn't, unless that has changed since last I followed all this drama.....the adult decided to to pop some E and railed a few lines, then raged out on the street car and attacked innocent people....ZERO sympathy for his death there was a pic floating around when this first happened, somebody painted "the good die young" or something to that affect on the sidewalk...I wonder if the McGregor sisters or anybody else on the street car would say he's a good guy...
  2. sweet report, nice fish, especially the chicken, perfect eating size and won't kill your arms to bring it in lol just FYI there is an organized fishing protest for the recreational fraser chinook fishery happening Aug 1, if you're into that sort of thing
  3. ebay can be very expensive for spools, shop carefully with that my most recent order was just last week so good timing lol.....stradic FJ 2500 spool, part number 14928, $31.59
  4. are you a bigger guy? I'd probably take a car topper vhull over a jon boat myself, but I'm just not a fan of narrow jon boats, ie the 1032 most common size....if you're buying new then check out lowe, they make a 1040, widest I'm aware of on the market, fished out of one earlier this year and was noticeably more stable and comfortable than my 1032 which I didn't keep very long
  5. the MTO doesn't specify any particular type of chain, just that it needs to be sufficient strength to prevent detachment in event of a hitch failure...so basically the chain has to have a min breaking strength of whatever you are towing the gold grade 70 at PA is overkill for towing a boat, but of course it works just fine...you could save a few bucks per foot though, if that matters somebody mentioned hook strength too...very important point! I always see guys using the large size carbineers from the hardware section, because they are quick and easy...those things suck, they aren't rated for towing and they fold out straight like a paper clip lol I think it's actually the MTO farm guide that talks about safety chains if you wanted to google it up
  6. if you buy from cdn tire, I'd check out the nautilus batteries, but make sure it's the real deep cycles, not the hybrid version...I have 2 nautilus agm31's and the nautilus onboard charger as well, was initially skeptical as they get mixed reviews but you need to take battery reviews with a grain of salt, as imo they are very dependent on properly maintaining and charging to get full useful life out of them....my batteries stay plugged in all winter while stored outside in my car port, and then asap when I get home from fishing, on my 5th year and going strong
  7. they have separate horizontal and vertical tensions, so you can crank down on the rod but a little shaker can still release the clip biggest advantage for me is I can run braid without false releases (never found a clip that holds braid well), but I don't have to worry about water fleas which I hear are horrible on braid
  8. I switched over to these years ago for inland lakes and haven't looked back, fully adjustable tension for release, no more draggin shakers around the lake...still use Scotty's for salmon though http://dev.downriggerrelease.com/products.html
  9. most line sections tend to have a leader section, if not look for fluoro tippet in the fly fishing section and agreed that vanish is horrible stuff
  10. I thought Sage also had an online guide spacing chart? that is an older blank I believe, but worth contacting them to see what they offer
  11. takes a special kind of stupid to post your illegal activities on fb for the world to see!!!!...and everybody in the boat should be charged IMO idiots are locals, anybody wanna know the names? haha they shut down their fb accounts after this went public lol the one positive thing about the story, this was posted on FB and concerned folks tipped off the CO's, so sometimes the tip lines do actually work....common theme to hear "why bother reporting because nothing ever happens"...very nice to see charges pursued, but still gotta wait on sentencing...
  12. I use those raven swivels quite a bit, but I stopped using them for braid-leader connections....even with shorter leaders I've still reeled up once in a blue moon, and have damaged 3 tip top guides since I first started using braid way back when...pretty much only when drop shotting now, and sometimes trolling I generally prefer to use an 8-12 wrap improved Albright depending on lb test
  13. I've seen my fair share of them in the Thames in London growing up, glad to hear they are still doing well there, but hope they make a recovery overall.....as a kid finding those pancake turtles or a green snake was like the holy grail of catching stuff lol
  14. mike's repair site is a bit crude but does work for me, I've also ordered a few parts through him before and had good help over the phone....googling mikes reel repair schematics quantum sls30 might get you a better result...I found the quantum snapshot SLS30 schematics diagram pretty quick (I can't copy and post to OFC right now, weird, IE version issue I'm guessing?) as mentioned, many reels tend to be fairly parallel in mechanics between manufacturers, if you posted a few pics you might get some help...I strip all my own reels but I can't visualize what you are saying
  15. I don't doubt the OP tied up a pattern of his own creation, that fly has a lot of good attributes and easy to see why it's productive...claiming to "invent" a new fly pattern nowadays is a bold statement, but especially more so with this pattern as Galloup has almost a cult like following for his streamers don't take too much offence, fly guys are typically a feisty bunch...you should see how the spey guys react when they catch ya swinging a little tiny Colorado blade with no fur/feathers LOL
  16. I take my charger and batteries out of the boat for winter, and that is the only time I put my starter on a charger I picked up a lithium ion battery pack charger to keep in the truck, when I am fishing remote lakes/camping I keep that in the boat as a precaution, but have never needed to use it for myself but I did help two other boaters last season
  17. Nice rig! I'll be adding my LX-7 to my pontoon soon...how do you have your transducer mounted there have you considered a swivel base for the seat? I found it really makes things more comfortable for me and I guess on a big lake like that you guys don't really anchor too much?
  18. depends on the style of top water really...open water hard baits with trebles I prefer mono and medium action...top water in the slop with frogs, buzzbaits, etc I like braid and usually heavy leader
  19. fuse or circuit breaker maybe? I have a 24v riptide and my breaker was shot after 2 years, went with a generic inline 60amp fuse as it was fair bit cheaper than replacing the breaker and just keep extra fuses in the boat
  20. my 1997 Lund pro fisherman is like that...I've contemplated that concept before, would I really notice a difference in how the boat handles on the water? only a 90hp on there
  21. UV protection isn't the only criteria imo, and there is still a difference in that department too between cheap vs premium lens quality makes a big difference in eye strain on a 12+ hour day, just like spotting game with cheapy binos, you'll never hear a single hunting guide tell you cheapy binos will cut it, eye glasses shouldn't be any different.....quality lenses reduce eye strain and especially in a water environment you're exposed to more glare...I feel my eyes are worth the money to splurge on glasses I like the maui jim pehai, actual glass lense vs polycarbonate, I wear them 90% of the time...I have some oakleys with dark blue lenses for general cruising around on bright days my buddy said he thought he was watching a steelhead a while back, rapala glasses, handed him my maui's and wait a second, there's two there!
  22. tape off any rod you want to use, and it with a couple light coats of pink krylon
  23. if you can understand half the words, then kiwi...if you can't get any words, then aussie haha
