  1. x 2 simplest way imo without spending money
  2. you don't want a trailer, how about a sled deck? expensive new, but always used ones on kijiji and CL
  3. is there not room to turn the sled sideways and wedge it between atv and the bed rail? it'll stick up on the tailgate and need to strap it down but it works just fine....I used to have that same pelican sled I think you're talking about...it measures about 5 or 6" longer than the box right? or I'd strap it to one of the quad racks even, it would only stick out a foot or so on each side
  4. burgers, meat loaf, nachos/tacos, meat balls, pasta/lasagna, shepherds pie, meat pie, chilli/sloppy joes...all stuff I've done with my moose....how much ground? how many people you feeding?
  5. every trainer has a slightly different method, but most are fairly parallel to each other, this is a straight copy and paste from Karen pryor's website, I really liked her book and would definitely recommend her techniques (I like her brand of clickers too) Why is clicker training effective? When an animal intentionally performs a behavior in order to bring about a desired consequence, as clicker trained animals do, they are learning in a way that researchers call "operant conditioning." Animals (and people) may also associate an action, event, place, person, or object with a consequence, whether pleasant or unpleasant. The more a certain event or environment is paired with a particular consequence, the stronger the association. This type of learning is called "classical conditioning" and represents reflexive or automatic behavior, rather than intentional behavior. While clicker training initially employs classical conditioning, it quickly becomes operant conditioning as soon as the animal intentionally repeats an action in order to earn a reward. Training through operant conditioning results in purposeful behavior, while training through classical conditioning results in habitual behavior. The difference between an animal that behaves with purpose, rather than by habit, is vast. Clicker trained or operantly conditioned animals try to learn new behaviors. They remember behaviors even years later because they were aware of them as they learned them, rather than acquiring them without awareness. They develop confidence because they have control over the consequences of their actions. They are enthusiastic because they expect those consequences to be pleasurable. http://www.clickertraining.com/what_is_clicker_training used a lot of different methods with my dogs, and very happy with the outcome, clicker training, hand signals, whistles and voice commands...dogs truly want to please their master and the motto of man's best friend is definitely well earned I've always had labs, but have wondered about lab/collie crosses, two amazing breeds, would love to see an update down the road, congrats on Holly once again, such a cutie
  6. I'd say that dealer just wanted to score some warranty work....I have the v8, buddy has the eco boost and I know exactly what you're talking about...I was told by the ford tech that's how the v8 was tuned, and most aftermarket tuners will fix that I think it could also be the traction control filtering the throttle input, I think I notice less of the lag with tc turned off, and I only notice the lag when I hammer my foot, if I ease into it but still more aggressive than normal there is no lag
  7. cute puppy, congrats I've also had good results with clicker training
  8. I deliberately looked for an unfinished basement, so that's my 800 sq ft storage room, as well as half of the kitchen table that I don't require for eating lol when I lived in a condo I hung 8' pvc pipes bolted to 2x4's and hung them from the ceiling, that kept my rods safe...one side was fixed, the other side hung on hooks so I could easily swing them down and take rods in/out....everything else was stored in big Tupperware boxes
  9. I think most people have been on both sides of this fence, at some point in their life....there is definitely a reason, and if it's a big deal to you then you should address it, rather than letting it fester....if you've all been close friends for 25 years, that's a lot to throw away for one missed vacation.....and if all the wives are closer friends than the husbands, than it seems worthwhile to work it out...somebody hinted at some personal stuff going on at home? I'd guess the wives likely know what's up
  10. my ex gf's father was a cop, and my good buddy in college, both his parents were retired cops, I've received a lot of grooming how to interact, and how to protect myself....but cops get tired of being lied to, extravagant excuses....I find being honest will get you off minor tickets more times than not I think the cop bashing mentality comes from the truly bad cop stories that go public, and are either a slap on the wrist or swept under the rug, very easy to understand how they all get painted with the same brush, they police the public, they should also police their own... but I will say, when you get a distracted ticket in a drive thru, imo that's a quota/cash grab ticket
  11. beauty truck, congrats...I stuck with the v8 myself a couple years back, I don't think you get actually better mileage with the ecoboost, but you certainly notice the difference in acceleration be interesting to hear what real world mileage you get
  12. whitetail backstrap and tenderloins last night just spent the last 2 hours browsing the last 30+ pages of this thread since my last visit, some real good stuff here!
  13. change the minnows to roe, and you have a typical Saturday of egg ballers vs swingers on rivers on the west coast!! Lucky is considered lager of the gods on the island hahaha I'd say your old 300 would handle most bows just fine, I used to use my grandfathers and landed tons of big carp when I first started out fishing in my youth
  14. Residency issues are no joke out west, LOTS of people take advantage of it, especially the guiding industry which is largely dominated by foreign owners....IMO this guy got what he deserved, sucks for his father, but he was clearly abusing the system, and not just on the residency issue and then there's guys like Clayton Stoner with his grizzly, and half of Fort Mac that calls BC home, technically many do not meet the requirements to hunt or fish as a resident, even though they own homes in BC, pay taxes, support local economy, etc......the definition of residency needs to be revised...but I highly doubt that'll happen
  15. In BC, the use of helicopters is already illegal for hunting, and the ministry classifies a drone as a helicopter based on the rotary blade. The synopsis has been amended to include specific wording for dones but not the actual wildlife act yet, so it would be interesting to see that case in court. In terms of using drones to spot or herd game, it's already very popular for guide outfitters to use planes to scout or even herd sheep over a few ridges (and even interfere with hunters who are not clients)....drones don't have anywhere near the flight time that those planes do, so not too worried about that aspect. In general I'd love to see more aerial enforcement of existing regs, but the mountains are big and hard to enforce that crap, "evidence" is typically hearsay There's some pretty spectacular pictures coming from drones now, definitely cool devices with legitimate uses. I'd love to build one up, seems the older you get the more expensive your hobbies become haha
  16. by the sounds of it, no collar or tag, not too many people follow municipal cat licencing...my family never did, but we had indoor cats it's definitely not your fault, but the closure for the family/possibly a kid is a decent thing to do I had to return a dog on boxing day, that was rough watching 4 kids cry their guts out, but still better than leaving it roadside...
  17. if you use scotty rod holders, or don't mind installing a base in a convenient spot, they make a camera mount for about $15, and can also run an extension with it I'm pretty sure, works well and kinda cheap....pretty sure ram has camera mounts too nice fish!
  18. I bet if the OP did saltwater the first day, there would be no bass fishing on day 2 I was faced with the same decision, decided not to book anything until I was done work and shop around down there....I didn't do any largemouth fishing lol to the OP, you're not that far from the everglades national park, I did a day trip there, even if there were no fish involved just boating around there was awesome another thing not mentioned yet, is party boat fishing...it's cheap, about 40-50$ I found, you can bring your own drinks and snacks, and good chance of catching some cool new fish....they provide all the tackle, but you can also bring your own too....they motor out and drift over the reefs, motor back and repeat drift.....if you introduce yourself to the captain before you go out, or the first mate, slip them a few extra bucks and mention you'd love to hook into a sail...they told me to stay close to the kite rods, well worth it!!! there is also peacock bass available, which I didn't do, but I would certainly try them out before any largemouth fishing whatever you do, you're going to have a blast, hope you post some pics!
  19. very sad story I've used a SPOT and now have an InReach, initially purchased for hunting trips but I've started to carry mine on my body whenever I do anything these days, alone or with a friend...hunting, fishing, boating, etc...they are small and packable, and worth it's weight in gold when you really need it...every outdoorsman should have one nowadays imo, small price to pay to help with your safety
  20. You've listed only wages and hours, but what other benefits? Not just medical and dental, rrsp? employee stock matching? training and development? advancement opportunity? I would assume the mining company offers better benefits than your current temp contract position, but that's merely a strangers assumption here I've been employed in the mining industry for the past 6 years, currently at a gold copper mine, I may be slightly biased but I'd say the mining gig is the better long term choice...but I'm not raising a family either, but there are lots of people that do and seem to be happy where I work.
  21. definitely not a cougar, aside from the possible tail, everything else is characteristic of a lynx, I don't think the tail is actually all that long as irishfield mentioned...you can see the black tip moving at one point and is shorter, the rest looks like shadow effect from poor lighting...you can see the shadow effect on the chest too
  22. It wasn't killed simply because it hadn't attacked anybody or pets yet, if it had, it would certainly be a different outcome. Most of the cats than encroaching on urban developments tend to be younger cats and not typically the best of health, struggling to survive on their own. Sadly, once these cats realize there are easy snacks within city limits, they become problem animals and are killed. Relocation of predators is not as successful as many would like to believe. But it's still nice to read a happy story now and then.
  23. They are certainly free enough to replace guns with knives in their increasing violent crime rate... It's very sad to hear about yet another school shooting. I've been through Oregon several times, and spent a good chunk of last fall working in Colorado near Columbine, drove past the school a few times. It seems these tragedies happen more often than not in places you wouldn't suspect, in well to do neighbourhoods. I won't get into the banning guns debate, or even knives in the UK for that matter. I think there are much deeper underlying issues than simply access to guns or knives that lead to these tragedies...and there is no easy answer there. I will say, however, I think a big part of the problem is our fear mongering style of media system and the coverage these shooters get. That's their moment of fame and recognition. For whatever reasons they feel the need to hurt people, and the media spot light is their incentive or reward. They get their names and faces plastered all over tv channels and internet. I wish that would stop. Pay tribute to the victims, not the criminals.
  24. Genuinely sorry for your loss, I didn't mean to side rail your thread...looks like your dog was well loved, lots of good memories, never easy losing part of the family
