This is the second time in less than a week that I have heard about Horwood Lake. The fellow i spoke with last Friday was saying how great te fishing was there and he was booked for a few weeks around the same time. Enjoy!

Yeah Gord, Lets make this happen this year. I have fished with Misfish in his boat, but never had the chance to return the favour. Layzee Acres was the first place I met Spiel as well, but we have never shared a boat together yet. For that matter, WE have not even fished together! LOL

I also fished the lake every week-end for 21 years and still have a trailer there. My pattern for this year will be to try and follow Gord around the lake! I don't mind "sloppy seconds"! LOL

Thanks again for the tickets TJ (and also Gerritt!). They didn't have the info from you at the will call booth on Saturday, but there was no issue with giving me the tickets. My Wife and I went and met our Daughter and Son in Law too. I enjoyed the show. I didn't see any great deals, but it was a nice way to spend the day anyways. The expanded area was sorta a flea market of ShamWow type stuff. Hopefully next year they can fill that section as well. The dog training was neat though and a nice addition.

In theory, no refrigeration system should be able to function in cold ambient conditions without the addition of special components. You domestic appliances are just not suited to operation in these conditions, The condenser on the back or bottom of the unit has to build sufficient pressure (called head pressure) to correctly allow for the metering device ( in this case, a capillary tube) with enough refrigerant to create the refrigeration effect necessary to freeze the food. The capillary tube is considered a "fixed orifice" and requires at least 60 psig across it to feed properly. However saying all this, a lot of people do run freezers and refrigerators out in garages all winter.It defies what we know, but some folks get away with it. Depends on how cold it is outside too. There is also the fact that if the thermostat (which in most cases controls the freezer section temperature) is satisfied by the cold ambient, then the compressor will not run long enough to freeze everything solid. The refrigerator section is usually controlled by directing a portion of the cold freezer air down into the refrigerator section to satisfy it. These things cost enough to operate as it is without installing a heater on it. Silly idea in my opinion!

I have eaten Basa many times. The majority of what is found in our supermarkets is USA produced on fish farms. I like it. This whole video is disgusting when you think of how polluted that water is. When we first started eating that fish here as "Fish and Chips", I did a fair bit of research into it. Prior to this, I had never heard of it. I find it ironic that their packaging plants look so clean and sterile with all the garb and masks and such.....yet the product itself is dirty as all hell! LOL

Ryan, The first time you buy an Outdoors card that includes hunting, you will have to take a copy of your "passed" Hunter Safety course documents into an office of Service Ontario that is equipped to deal with this. All offices are not equipped, so check it out first. It is something you need to do in person and they will upgrade you to a hunter at that time while you wait. Once this is done, you can go on one of their computers and your file will come up to reflect the changes. You can now apply for the new Outdoors card. You may need to pay, but they could also have a provision for this since you already renewed the fishing version. I went home and renewed mine. From now on, I don't have to go in person and can renew online. It is only the first time that you need to do this.

Sorry for the rant here, but I was curious as to how you all feel about this. I received a letter in the mail last week that told me I have a certificate worth $10.00. It goes on to say that this is based on my rewards points...and very subtly lets me know that, if I don't use them by March 26th, 2011, THEY ARE GONE! It says "Dollar value listed above will be DEDUCTED on above date if not used." I already have a sore spot for these folks because they deleted my US based points a number of years ago in a similar manner and they took over 4 years to finally come up with a rewards points system at the Canadian store! I think this kind of sucks on their part! I also noticed on the web site, that the store manager has changed? Dave Jessop was the original Manager, but has now been replaced by Shawn Hewitt. Anyone know what happened here? Did Dave move on, or was he let go? I'm curious because he was never seen on the floor in any of my many visits there.

Well done Chris! I had a similar situation in my first house. The flue door was the type that you unlatched and pushed up to raise the flue door. The lever would latch and hold it at whatever position you wanted it in. I always put it wide open and double and triple checked it to be sure it was latched. One night, I did all these things and lit a roaring god fire. I had just flopped down on the couch when I heard a bang and realized that the flue door had shut on it's own!!! The flames came straight out the front and were licking at the ceiling! I hollered for my wife and I ran out to my truck for the fire extinguisher I had in it. As i ran back inside, I just pointed it into the fireplace and started blasting the dry chemical. I was too panicked to point it at the base of the fire or anything, but miraculously, it went out! My wife had grabbed a fish that was mounted over the mantle and pulled it off the wall in time to prevent it being burned! Fire damage was minimal, but smoke damage and the dry chemical powder was everywhere. We used large fans to draw the smoke out of the house, but it needed a thorough cleaning by professionals through our insurance company. They washed every nick nack, dishes in the cupboards, etc from basement to second floor. I guess the intense heat caused the latch to twist or something. Scary stuff for sure! I always have an extinguisher in the house since then.

My Wife and I stayed in Brampton last night rather than risk heading home and having to struggle back in this morning. She suggested that we get a motel room and call it an early Valentines! I agreed! We went out for dinner, shared a bottle of wine, and....... who is complaining about the media hype? Not me!

This site has always been the best for solid fishing info, but the sense of "family" that you get here is unmatched anywhere. I don't bother much with other fishing boards anymore, but for things like welding and such, I do go to other forums. They are radically different. You can get info, but the warm fuzzy feeling just isn't there. This board has helped so many of us through tough times and we have celebrated good times! Nothing else quite like it that I have found! "Fishing" is just the common bond that brings us here.

All of the old pictures are fantastic, but Bernie, yours are really amazing. They certainly rekindle some good memories of another time! Thanks for sharing!

In Ontario, you will have to pay the taxes at this end. If the courier has any brokerage fees, you will have to pay those as well. Not sure about the "price up front" from BPS as i have not ordered from them or Cabelas in a long time.
