  1. Guys, the fight is far from over! My wife and I volunteered at the Foodstock event in October, which was a huge success. Over 28,000 people showed up on a rainy and brutally windy afternoon. It was something memorable to have been a part of! This past week, Danny Beaton of the Mohawks posted a long letter in the local paper that was a good read. The US company (Baupost Group) is getting lots of bad press for this fiasco and another similar one in California. Lets hope someone in our Governments has a least a shred of decency in them to prevent this from happening. It will be a fight that goes on for a few years yet.
  2. Hey Paul, Nice to see you around here! I gotta admit that when I was in Cleveland last Spring, I found it very interesting (and a little unnerving to say the least!) when I went to a local gun show my first week there. I could not believe the types of weapons or the numbers that I saw openly carried and displayed. People were walking the isles carrying rifles and hand guns. I guess they were looking to sell, trade, whatever? Just something I'm not accustomed to seeing. I remember this one vendor was selling shirts that said "Welcome to Cleveland - One of the 10 most dangerous cities in the US - Come heavy, or don't come at all!" LOL I believe Ohio has a Concealed carry permit?
  3. Pigeon troller, that is some nice workmanship right there! Jedi, To my knowledge, The C.Hina company has never been known for their prowess in woodworking skills! LOL Too bad BPS has to stoop to this low level though. There was a time when they cared about the products that carried there name. Its not like Johnny Morris is hurting any. Imagine if IKEA ever got into making products for fishing tackle storage? Now there stuff usually goes together very well!
  4. I noticed on Friday, that the rental ice huts are out on Island lake in Orangeville! They must have went out on Thursday? Seems odd with the weather we have been having. It was +5 here yesterday! Let's hope the Conservation Authority knows what they are doing.
  5. Based on your prospective boat from your other post, I would say, no problem! That short distance combined with the relatively few times you woud be towing should be fine. I did it with a much heavier boat than you are looking at and even towed it back and forth between the camp and home a couple of trips per year.
  6. I have its smaller sister, the Max 65. This motor is fantastic! It will cut through any type or amount of weeds I have thrown at it with ease. The weedless Wedge props are amazing. The Max series is variable speed with maximizer. Worth the extra $$ in my opinion, but depends on what you want or need.
  7. Hey, I drive by it almost every day! I think we might have the makings of a get together out there this winter! LOL It is one of my favourite places to ice fish. I usually do okay there and it is 10 minutes from home!
  8. Glad to hear that surgery went well. Take care of yourself!
  9. Nice looking Pup! Here are a few shots out the kitchen window today. It is still snowing and -9, so it should be around for a bit!
  10. Very nicely put Gerritt! That was the first time I met you ...at the funeral. I can't believe it has been that many years. All the best to you and yours.
  11. National Lampoon Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, and Original Miracle on 34th Street are all my favourites. If I see all them at least once a season, I'm good! I also liked the original Walton's Christmas movie, but don't see it much any more.
  12. I dunno Gord, You fished more days than I did this year.....by a long shot! I think your biggest problem is you been absent from this board for a while!
  13. LOL, good one Dan!
  14. Congratulations on taking this huge step! I wish you all the best!
  15. Now, that right there, is one very cool machine! I wonder what happened to this invention? The only difficult part of this would be the pontoon screws (You listening Wayne? LOL).
  16. I worked 22 years for the same Family owned contractor. When I started there, they paid all Mechanics a $500 Christmas bonus and all Apprentices $300. They always had a party as well for the employees and their Spouses or significant others. Food, Music, and drinks were all paid for. That bonus pretty much represented close to a weeks pay for most guys and they looked at it as being able to take a few days off between Christmas and New Years without it affecting their pay cheques. We only got paid for hours worked. Statutory holidays and vacation days were covered by an annual 10% vacation pay. Yes, we were a unionized shop. In 1992, the economy took a down turn and they announced that they had to stop the bonuses. We didn't like it, but were glad to still have jobs. We thought that once things picked up, they might come back. We still had the parties and as the company grew larger, they became more lavish and extravagant. The only difference was that the drinks were cut back to 2 per person. Again, not a big deal. As time moved forward, drinks were cut out completely and it was a cash bar all the way. Okay, they said it was for legal reasons. Some years, we even had the party on a Sunday afternoon at Woodbine racetrack with a lavish lunch buffet. Most of the expensive food was wasted because the guys liked basic meat and potatoes. My beef with these later parties was that (being not a big drinker anyways) I had to pay $4.00 to $6.00 for a soft drink or bottle of water! Just nuts! Here's the part that got me the most! At one of the latter parties in a large hotel, the boss has a few too many. Normally, he never says a public speech or anything at these things. So...this year he gets up and says....the company had their BEST year ever that year and grossed $60,000,000.00!!! All I could think of was....so where's my $500??? LOL This was a few years after the bad one in 1992 and things were definitely on the upswing! Anyways, I just found it strange how things had become. I still went each year and we had fun with the people we got along with the most. I never enjoyed it as much as I did in the early days when we all got together for a fun time and someone brought their stereo to play music on. Some of the places even had a pool table to play on. I changed jobs 4 years ago and now we have a very nice dinner at a nice restaurant, but it is only the employees...no guests. I don't get a bonus here either, but I do get a fair bit of time off with pay over the holidays, so I'm happy with that.
  17. I have the Shelter Logic Large grey one with the domed roof. It is 12' x 24' & 10' high. I am on my 4th year and the ends are starting to show wear. The roll up door is almost done. I have never had to clear snow off and this thing is pulled real tight. To anchor it down, we drove re-bar into the ground on an angle and then clamped U bolts to the rods. The structure is secured to the clamps with cables. The screw type anchors were useless in hard ground. They just snapped off while trying to screw them in. If the roof stays in good shape, I might try to fill in the ends with plywood & add barn doors to the front. I paid $499.00 on sale at CTC. The shape of the roof in the ones in your link look weak. I have seen a lot of that type collapse. I don't think the roof material is tight enough on those either.
  18. As others have already stated, this is a job for someone very familiar with those springs! I wouldn't risk injury to myself or a friend when a Pro will do it for under $100.00. Better safe than sorry!
  19. I use Polaris 500 with a 60" blade. The tires are stock and I replaced the winch cable with a much shorter rope. You only use about 4' of cable anyways. I have 4 x 4 and have had no trouble moving the snow yet! Like already mentioned, make sure you have a place to push it to and start piling it off in the distance to start the season. The space will close in fast if we get a lot of snow and minimal melts. By early March, I only push it a short ways and keep my fingers crossed! LOL I would like to do some modifications to my blade though to add end caps to the blade (one end anyways)and maybe a rubber flap on the top edge. The blade at BPS on their Arctic Cats looks like a good design. Mine is better quality, but very basic in design. Oh, and your budget seems on the low side unless you are looking for an older model used.
  20. Take your pick! As long as I'm not in the seat beside ya, you should be fine! LOL
  21. Happy Birthday my Friend! Hope you had a good one!
  22. Love the song too, Paul. I know Mr. Lightfoot penned it, but I actually like the version by Valdy even more! I can't find a You tube version that was studio recorded, only a more recent "live" version that is not as good.
  23. Mike, I can't comment on their fishing tackle, but I did buy a couple of books and a piping calculator off Amazon a month or so ago. Everything went very well and I was very pleased with the transaction. A few weeks later, I received an email from them saying that the import fees had decreased on the items I bought. They said they had credited my credit card $12.31. True enough, they did! Outstanding customer service in my opinion. I was happy prior and very happy afterwards!
  24. Zirk fittings that have a hex shape base are threaded, without the hex, they are push in. M6 is a metric thread on yours.
  25. As Paul said, you should be fine. I used to keep mine outside and I built a frame over it and added some 1/4" plywood before tarping it up. This positively shed the snow. The last few years, I kept it in one of those portable garages. Drain everything, fog the motor, use stabilizer in the fuel and run it for 15 minutes before putting it away. Remove the battery and any LCD electronics. I've never had a problem in over 20 years doing it this way.
