  1. just saw some at my local Canadian Tire, natural and the fl. orange
  2. Was wandering through Princess Auto yesterday and stumbled upon a do it yourself jerky kit for $30. Had 2 bags of cure/spice mixes, a large jerky rack and the jerky gun with 2 nozzles. I just got back my share of this years moose and there was a high amount of ground done this year so I thought what the heck lets give this a try as I've always wanted to do this but never got around to it. Took out a pound of moose ground last night and got to it this afternoon. Very easy directions to add spice and cure (tablespoons per pound) and loaded the gun up. In just under an hour and a half this came out of the over (200C). That was about 4pm and as I compare to what's left in the bag beside me somehow a lot of it is already gone? The kit and spices are from Hi Mountain and I'm already planning my next batch tomorrow night. Need to find the small casings to make pepperettes. Used the Pepper kit first and have a Mesquite kit for tomorrows try. In the recipe it says to add ice cold water to the ground when mixing but I substituted Hot Thai sauce so these ones do have a good kick Also ran across a recipe this afternoon on the web that was using ground salmon to do this. Might have to try that too.
  3. Did she teach english in Mississauga in 1978?
  4. I was looking at eastern lake erie yesterday and texted my buddy. I've never seen pink on there before. My buddy who lives down that way said there were reports of mid lake swells in the 7 meter range
  5. Northern Manitoba is a cost affordable alternative to the epic lodges. I like to look through the Master Anglers lists from Travel Manitoba site and it's a great place to see what lakes come up regularly in trophy fish categories The ones that always seem to cough up big fish are God's Lake, Nueltin, Reindeer, Big Sand I was at Big Sand in 2008 and from what I saw it's really pricey (was a free trip my friend won)but I've seen a few on God's Lake for under $4 grand for the week. I know that does not include the flight though to Winnipeg
  6. My current ice fishing clothing came from Marks Works Warehouse in North Bay about 3 years ago (bottom of the hill by Canadian Tire) Heavy Parka, matching bib pants, Three fingered lined hydro mitts and -150 pack boots. Never ever been cold wearing this stuff. All very reasonably priced and if I remember the parka was on sale. They used to carry a lot of cold weather clothing I've never seen down here in the city but not sure now with the recent store changes.
  7. My Dad's Dad gave him a book for xmas in 1943 (I think). My Dad gave me that book when I was in my 20's and started to show a real passion for fishing and the outdoors. If any of you grew up fishing for small stream trout or just appreciate the old time 30-40's references to oiled lines, dacron and fly fishing this is a fantastic book with some great water color pages of trout and flies Just Fishing by Ray Bergman and as my Dad's Dad signed it in 1943 Tight Lines and good reading!
  8. Seen several in and around Bronte from the lake right up through the qew. Had them on my lawn last year over by Dorval. Have a small ravine close by and have seen them in the brush up an down the ravine
  9. Stay away from the depthmaster II. The Gold and Metal seemed to be very prominent on the walleye boats on the PWT Lake Erie tournaments. My buddy was down fishing as a co-angler and noticed them everywhere. I haven't tried them as yet but have been pondering the Metal but it seems to never go on sale
  10. I am typing this on a BB play book just bought a month ago at Staples for $115. Great product for web surfing. I still use my iPod for music though
  11. Has anyone recently seen the moonshine casting spoons anywhere in the west end. My glow Cleos are getting old and not holding a charge at all. Was out casting last night and saw the moonshine spoons in action. Saw a few dirty old boots jumping around the breakwall but other than that it was deadly quiet.
  12. Wore a pair like that (minus the fur) through high school. Mind you I did listen to A LOT of Ted Nugent
  13. Not sure if you're open to other options but you can fish really cheap in Cozumel. I did full day fly fishing for bonefish, a boat, guide and beers(and lunch) for 250 usd. Best months for fish are May and April. Lots of bonefish, permit show up in May as well as baby tarpon (up to 20 lbs). You can fly and spin fish all day and no winds in the spring. I'm working on a trip back there maybe this year but things are getting very busy for me, maybe 2014.
  14. That would be Fridays point if it was to the north of KL or the cribs if it was just south of KL. to get right into kokomo lake you'll need to drag your boat as the little outflow going into Kokoko bay if jammed packed with log jams and rocks. The upper part of Kokoko bay can be very good
  15. Wow must have missed this or I would have sent you some notes. Glad you had a good time. Smallies are in abundance on that lake and yes they tend to go deeper as they get bigger. I've hit some tanks jigging for lakers on rock shoals in 40-50 ft. Thanks for the shots especially that second one. I haven't been up in the summer for 2 years now due to work and baseball but that shot made me feel like I was back on the lake. A quick fly by Ket-chun-eny and then scoot right up into Kokoko. 4 weeks to mooose hunt
  16. Nice job the IF, It's probably fixed now but the parking meter at 16 mile has been out of order all last weekend. I finally got my boat in the water last Sunday (yes it has not seen any action this year). Big waves and they kept getting bigger out to deeper water. Ran some gas through the boat and headed back in but when I puttered out to 200 FOW the screen lit up with bait and marks. It was too rough for me to drop a line but maybe this weekend
  17. Set The Hook X-Zones The old school 4" berkley power worms
  18. In the same boat DB. I'm in the photo supply business, running the marketing division ( its just me ha ha) for a big Japanese company. Just waiting for the final blow as our Canadian division is destined to be closed and then run from the states. Not enough business nowadays with impact of digital. I've been there 25 years and don't think it'll last any more than 1 or 2 years max.
  19. simply put that is my bucket list trip. Those first 4 pics say it all. I keep trying to talk my friends into doing a trip for specs but needless to say I'm alone on this one. Great pics and what a trip.
  20. Yep that's what we do. I keep a whack of 8" pieces of dacron in my box and some beads and tie up as needed
  21. One of my go to techniques now up north. If I can see them on the graph on distinct structure and the bite is slow, out comes the slip bobber. Rig a whole dew worm nose hooked on a 1/8 oz jig head and get it about a foot off the bottom. The biggest problem you might have is getting the bobber stop smoothly through the guides on a 7ft rod when casting. I run a 9 ft rod and change over to the dacron stops you get in the Lindy float packs. They travel through the guides a bit better than the rubber beads Northland tackle makes a short shank bait jig head that is perfect for this presentation.
  22. Got my #1 over Xmas 2011. Ended up catching 14 Bonefish on 2 day charter in Cozumel. Next on my list 5lb Speckle Tarpon A big muskie
  23. Just finished 9 months of research and looking at many different models plasma and LCD. I bought a plasma Panasonic Viera GT THX. It's a higher end but I'll share what I learned. On a good plasma you can place it it any room regardless of light. Again a better plasma has a very wide viewing angle. My choice came down to the Samsung Smart TV (LCD) and the Panasonic plasma GT. it was a dead heat except I found the colour on the Panasonic just richer and the Samsung was a little too bright and contrasty. It all comes down to colour and sharpness so watch that settings on the tv are not set to high so it looks better under the store lights I have 2 Vieras now and both are great
  24. The bigger danger to your line in Temagami are pike not so much wood or weeds. If you find a good weed bed which are scarcer then hens teeth work it with senkos and around the open water with pop r's, x raps. I've been running 8lb power pro or nanofil with no complaints with either. I do always run a 4 ft flouro leader of 6-10lb. Great technique up there is to drift the shorelines that have a lot of lay down wood in the water and fan cast with spinners, xraps and top water. Some days you'll need to slow down and throw senkos. last couple years blacks been the ticket for senkos and drop shots. Good luck and I am jealous as no trip up there for me this year!
  25. Looks like a great day. Would have tried to get down but had to hang around to run baseball practices that eventually got rained out anyways. Looking forward to joining in on future get togethers,.
