  1. Has anyone recently seen the moonshine casting spoons anywhere in the west end. My glow Cleos are getting old and not holding a charge at all. Was out casting last night and saw the moonshine spoons in action. Saw a few dirty old boots jumping around the breakwall but other than that it was deadly quiet.
  2. Wore a pair like that (minus the fur) through high school. Mind you I did listen to A LOT of Ted Nugent
  3. Not sure if you're open to other options but you can fish really cheap in Cozumel. I did full day fly fishing for bonefish, a boat, guide and beers(and lunch) for 250 usd. Best months for fish are May and April. Lots of bonefish, permit show up in May as well as baby tarpon (up to 20 lbs). You can fly and spin fish all day and no winds in the spring. I'm working on a trip back there maybe this year but things are getting very busy for me, maybe 2014.
  4. That would be Fridays point if it was to the north of KL or the cribs if it was just south of KL. to get right into kokomo lake you'll need to drag your boat as the little outflow going into Kokoko bay if jammed packed with log jams and rocks. The upper part of Kokoko bay can be very good
  5. Wow must have missed this or I would have sent you some notes. Glad you had a good time. Smallies are in abundance on that lake and yes they tend to go deeper as they get bigger. I've hit some tanks jigging for lakers on rock shoals in 40-50 ft. Thanks for the shots especially that second one. I haven't been up in the summer for 2 years now due to work and baseball but that shot made me feel like I was back on the lake. A quick fly by Ket-chun-eny and then scoot right up into Kokoko. 4 weeks to mooose hunt
  6. Nice job the IF, It's probably fixed now but the parking meter at 16 mile has been out of order all last weekend. I finally got my boat in the water last Sunday (yes it has not seen any action this year). Big waves and they kept getting bigger out to deeper water. Ran some gas through the boat and headed back in but when I puttered out to 200 FOW the screen lit up with bait and marks. It was too rough for me to drop a line but maybe this weekend
  7. Set The Hook X-Zones The old school 4" berkley power worms
  8. In the same boat DB. I'm in the photo supply business, running the marketing division ( its just me ha ha) for a big Japanese company. Just waiting for the final blow as our Canadian division is destined to be closed and then run from the states. Not enough business nowadays with impact of digital. I've been there 25 years and don't think it'll last any more than 1 or 2 years max.
  9. simply put that is my bucket list trip. Those first 4 pics say it all. I keep trying to talk my friends into doing a trip for specs but needless to say I'm alone on this one. Great pics and what a trip.
  10. Yep that's what we do. I keep a whack of 8" pieces of dacron in my box and some beads and tie up as needed
  11. One of my go to techniques now up north. If I can see them on the graph on distinct structure and the bite is slow, out comes the slip bobber. Rig a whole dew worm nose hooked on a 1/8 oz jig head and get it about a foot off the bottom. The biggest problem you might have is getting the bobber stop smoothly through the guides on a 7ft rod when casting. I run a 9 ft rod and change over to the dacron stops you get in the Lindy float packs. They travel through the guides a bit better than the rubber beads Northland tackle makes a short shank bait jig head that is perfect for this presentation.
  12. Got my #1 over Xmas 2011. Ended up catching 14 Bonefish on 2 day charter in Cozumel. Next on my list 5lb Speckle Tarpon A big muskie
  13. Just finished 9 months of research and looking at many different models plasma and LCD. I bought a plasma Panasonic Viera GT THX. It's a higher end but I'll share what I learned. On a good plasma you can place it it any room regardless of light. Again a better plasma has a very wide viewing angle. My choice came down to the Samsung Smart TV (LCD) and the Panasonic plasma GT. it was a dead heat except I found the colour on the Panasonic just richer and the Samsung was a little too bright and contrasty. It all comes down to colour and sharpness so watch that settings on the tv are not set to high so it looks better under the store lights I have 2 Vieras now and both are great
  14. The bigger danger to your line in Temagami are pike not so much wood or weeds. If you find a good weed bed which are scarcer then hens teeth work it with senkos and around the open water with pop r's, x raps. I've been running 8lb power pro or nanofil with no complaints with either. I do always run a 4 ft flouro leader of 6-10lb. Great technique up there is to drift the shorelines that have a lot of lay down wood in the water and fan cast with spinners, xraps and top water. Some days you'll need to slow down and throw senkos. last couple years blacks been the ticket for senkos and drop shots. Good luck and I am jealous as no trip up there for me this year!
  15. Looks like a great day. Would have tried to get down but had to hang around to run baseball practices that eventually got rained out anyways. Looking forward to joining in on future get togethers,.
  16. very cool JB and that the only way to do corn!!!!!
  17. All of mine seem to be Temagami bound I've had the pleasure of seeing Northern lights more than a few times while up in Temagami. I hope and pray that there will be many dozens more for me. One time in particular was driving back from New Liskeard, in September after wings and a movie. Northern lights were absolutely out of this world and by luck I was driving. I almost put us in the ditch several times on that trip. Second one that stands out is fishing with my son up in the Kokoko Bay arm. He was about 10 and was on the back deck talking about how it has been a long time (maybe a month or so from last trip)since he has seen any wild animals. As if on cue out of the movies we round the next point with me on the trolling motor and come face to face with a big bull moose standing knee deep in the water. I turned to him and said "What, like that one?" We sat and drifted a little closer and watched this moose for over 15 minutes. We got so close that we could see the hundreds of flies buzzing around his head as his antlers were still in velvet. My son was getting a little nervous and we drifted into about 20 yards away but I knew the water dropped off to over 20 ft deep right in front of where the moose was standing. I was feeling a little cocky and gave a small bull grunt. The bull moose took 2 steps and launched himself into the water and swam right at our boat. I circled the moose with my trolling motor and for the next 10 minutes had him swimming within 1 rod length away from us. I reached out several times with a 7ft spinning rod and touch the top of his rack. He stayed with us for a bit and then swam back to shore, up in the cedars and gone. My camera was on the kitchen table back at the cottage so no pictures. What I think I'll always remember is my son trying to climb up on my Merc as the moose swam around the back end of my boat no more than 3 ft off the gunnels.
  18. My Expedition has been an absolute dream to own. No real repairs in almost 10 years other than normal wear and tear on parts, 250,000 km and other than it's a thirsty boy at the gas pump I could not have had a better truck these last few years. It's getting a little long in the tooth and I've started looking at an Explorer and the Honda Pilot. If you want to spend a day and test drive a few different truck head out to AutoPark. You can drive a Dodge, Ford, Nissan and anything else they have in the lot in an afternoon. I was at Burlington location last week just to do my first walk through and probably be getting something new to me this fall. Also like the possibility of the Buick Enclave but need to do more research. My Expedition came from there and we bought my wife a GMC Envoy from Autopark Barrie a few years ago. Both have been great. It's a fine balance between gas mileage and power and after 8 years of the V8 Expedition I'm looking more at a V6 now. I pull a 1750 Crestliner Fishhawk and could get away with a smaller V6 now. It's the 3rd row seating that I can't give up. With temagami trips, friends coming along with my 2 kids and hunting and fishing, having that extra room is so hard to give up. Good luck in your search and be sure to share your test drive results. FWIW, we test drove the Cadillac SRX's when we bought my wife's Envoy and broke 2 on the test drives.
  19. I bought the Sunburst version for my '02 Crestliner 1750 Fishhawk and ordered it with motor and trolling motor hoods. Door to door delivery was quick and I use mine year round on my boat in the driveway. After 3 years I'm seeing a little bit of color fading but it does get a ton of direct sun. In the winter I run a full blue poly tarp over it to help shed any snow Mine has tie down rings every 3 ft around the boat and I have 4ft sections of 1/8" rope that loop around the trailer frame and then can snug the tarp down for a tight fit No complaints on the one I bought. Much better performance that the one size fits most at Canadian Tire. I went through one of those in one season.
  20. If your closer to the west end of the city I do recommend port Dover. Lovely shallow water beach for small children and such a neat little town. We've been taking our kids there for day trips for years. We were there on Thursday and had a great time
  21. For big smallies keep an eye on Erie starting mid September. It's probably better mid October but loads of 4's and 5's are possible out of eastern end.
  22. Ok since you put Rice lake in the post I will assume you'll be jigging weed lines and most likely be in that 8-14 ft of water that these edges occur in. For that depth I prefer a 6-3 or 6-6 rod. Mine right now are BPS Extreme and St Croix Mojo. Bucktails rule on rice followed by thin plastic minnows like Gulp and swim baits types. I also throw a lot of Power worms in 4" on rice for walleye. Black and blue and pumpkin/chart work well. I probably wouldn't be jigging though without using braid as main line. A small brass 3/16 worm weight on the 4"worm turns more walleye for me
  23. What BB said. I tie up a 2up drop shot rig on 8lb flouro tied then to 8lb braid. One hook for each 24" above the weight and just enough weight to get it down. Been more comfortable with 3/4 oz and bigger fish are more like spongy takes that add weight to the line. Don't forget the jigging spoons when perch are a little more aggressive. Electronics are king to finding the perch schools. WP them and then go back and sit on them till they move. Minnows are best and I always go minnow on bottom and a small plastic like gulp up top
  24. Here's a link from my post about the Spring Fishing show Larson If I was buying anything I'd have a long look at this and try and go for a water test
