  1. Mine was with an Abu Garcia Ultra Mag. Took a lighter and x-acto knife to clear it
  2. Got to spend a whole weekend on Lake Temagami with these guys, from breakfast to late night campfire. My job was to drive my boat around to show them some key spots and then make sure I stayed off camera Pretty hard not to be impressed by the guy on the left. As down to earth as they come
  3. I'm enjoying 9 days off work. Stress free, relaxing days with family is actually strange to get adjusted to but it's working wonders. Oh yeah and a new IPad air, frogg togg wader jacket, aqua vu micro and hopefully 2-3 of ice fishing over the next week
  4. Just picked one up from BPS. I've been playing with it and it is very sharp and clear. Will hopefully get it wet over next few days. I bought it for scouting structure and not to have it on all day. I had an older aqua vu and it was just way too big for me to haul around
  5. JB1 If you can get over to fishing world in Hamilton they have a very good selection of ice rods this year. St.Croix's, fenwick's and a few of the new brands They even had a couple of buckets of Ugly Stik ice rods on sale
  6. Mine would say Yes I was cathcing trout but now that your standing on the opposite bank staring down in the pool I might as well go for Tim Horton's
  7. I believe that would be an old Rebel Arrowhead spoon and it looks like you flipped it. Wide part was the original bottom. I have some old weedless ones still Good spoon and hard to find
  8. Coming full circle on this one. Bought one of the original Aqua Vu units and yes it was big and clunky, small screen, hard to see in the sun and I finally sold it off a few years ago. Boy do I miss it!!!!! Have been looking at the new units and will be buying a smaller more portable unit this year
  9. she is a he guys, by photo's you can see the start of yearly antler growth in behind the eyes on a few shots. I'd guess this might have been spring time from the growth and that is a pretty tall body. That animal would have much greater mass in the fall Good job by that crew
  10. Mike, find a good pair of gloves that are warm and functional and don't worry about it being waterproof. I've been playing with this new product from Rustoleum. It's $25 for the kit and I just did my two pairs of winter gloves and did the same demo in my garage the other night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoKXTlqmUb8
  11. I blew out my cover on a rough ride on Joseph and was faced with replacing it. #1 the price of the Clam product was high plus #2 no one had any in stock. I was in SAIL and was walking by the Normark ice fishing hut and noticed one of there 2 man was laid out exactly like my Clam Nanook. Took a chance and bought the Normark and it fit like a glove. Normark sells a single Cruzer hut 60"x45" so check your dimensions and maybe it'll do at much lower price I made a cover for my single Frabill and it was way too much work for what they are worth and still doesn't fit that good
  12. forgot to add, for wool socks check out Canadian Tire in or around the sports section. They sell 2 pairs of mid weight merino wool socks for around $12. These things are great, they never get pulled down around your ankles walking too!
  13. It's all about the layers and funny thing I'm 49 and have only once every really got wet ice fishing that I wished I had fully waterproof clothing. When I think about it pretty much all my stuff has come out of Marks and has been purchased mostly in the North Bay store over the years Base layer is Marks Driwear - great product and much less than big sports brands Next layer depends on weather - either light lounge pants and long sleeve or fleece top and bottoms (Nothing fancy) I will wear a second fleece/waterproof hoody that I can walk out with and keep the sweat down if it's not too cold out Pants - Marks thermal bibs that have zippered front and sides. All about not sweating on the way out Coat - Full 3/4 Marks Down Parka (snow mobile model). It's a little lighter than a traditional parka and has easy access zippers up the side to vent (or sit on a snow mobile) Boots are single most important items in my opinion. Tried many >> Only wear Baffin Titans now with a good add on cleat system from Canadian Tire
  14. This will be one those items debated for a long time I've used them all right back to my first experience lake trout fishing in temagami with the lowrance little green box they both have benefits but the old stereo types about flashers are the only "real time" fish finder is a load of bull now. For me it's a fish finder all the way. I use a HB 798 color and with the higher powered colored units you can switch between sonar screen and an exact flasher output screen but still have GPS, multi zoom. And yes have used my HB and then switched over to a HB 45 a few yards away. Pretty much the same response. Not to mention loading high res navionic maps and using them to get onto new spots Heck I can even record my sonar screen for fancy OFC reports but as yet I haven't figured that out.
  15. Ron Post Knives, South River Ontario I have 3 hand made knives from him (and looking for a few more). Finally bought a fillet knife last year and as you already posted I have used the old rapala's for years (Have 6 of them) This was strictly a TO ME - FROM ME gift. He does have a web site and sells his stuff at several shows through the year. He's always at the Toronto Fishing shows and does some of the hunting/trapping shows up north too. Best if you can see all the handles he can do. I pick my knife blade and then tell him what color/design handle I wanted. The top is a different type of skinning knife he's now making - was made this summer and shipped direct to my door for me. Gonna give it a test drive hopefully next week moose hunting best to give him a call to find out if he might be doing anything local to you
  16. Two I have checked out from Diners, Drive Ins and Dives - Buffalo edition Mulberry's cafe - Spectacular Italian and close to the stadium. Do not buy the regular Lasagna unless you are sharing for 2. Grovers - probably a bit far from stadium and line up was way too long for a burger - OK but the hype was bigger than the food
  17. BB android platform is very different to others in selection of apps and costs. I run a BB tablet and synced it to my old phone to expand my device capabilities when on business but their app selection sucks and is maybe 10% of what iPhone offers I always carried my ipod for music in the car, hotel room, vacations, hunt camp,..... Now I have one single device and about to swap out my tablet for an iPad and sync everything on the cloud. I do admit that old BB text keyboard was best but I can live without that for the Internet connections and faster performance
  18. I'm a newly converted iphone user. Had 2 BB's before including the Storm which didn't really impress me for my needs (business, texting, email mostly) Hate to say it but based on just the phone and not the plan (important difference) I can't really think why I'd go with a BB phone. Samsung phones are getting top ratings on android platform and pretty hard to not like all the stuff I can do on an iphone. If you can save money on a plan keep your eyes open to look at all the phone hardware choices. I got my iphone 4S at $0 when my plan was renewed with Bell for 2 years
  19. As a learning tool I'd suggest staying with a bolt action. Allows a bit more control between shots. Another aspect for safety and teaching kids to shoot is having a magazine. Very easy way to teach safety with a loaded gun - bolt action vs tube feed when you can open the bolt and remove the magazine to check if gun is still loaded Lots of options out there and some very interesting choices can be seen on sites like Epps in Orillia. They have a Tyrol 22 right now at a very good price. This is a very well put together rimfire rifle but may be a little unknown if you need it worked on.
  20. butcher ads are starting to pop up for this years hunting season on Kijiji too
  21. drove up Bronte at 9:30 pm the other night and the Halton Police was turning into the park entrance. Almost wanted to follow along and watch the gong show. Tried casting the pier the other night too and the overflow from the river must have showed up there. Lined up elbow to elbow on the break wall after that rain. I turned around and went home when I saw the crowd.
  22. Hooked on these since a trip to Cozumel and make mine with walleye. Simple - butter in pan and sear gently small portions of fillet in a hot skillet no breading or coating for me I like it with onions, cilantro and a bit of salsa, for a kick I add sweet thai chili sauce or ranch dressing
  23. go to google images and type in play room floor mats canadian tire sells these for pretty cheap and they go on sale regularly. Can't tell you the number of applications I've found for these around the garage, outdoors. Great thing is they can be trimmed easy to size and they link together
  24. That's why I love Crystal Beach $5
  25. Bronte launch is in the same spot as always. West side of rivermouth. I think it's $15 or $17. I don't look I just plug in the credit card and print a ticket.
