  1. Yes protected as a musky. Reason for protection is so someone doesn`t kill a musky and says oh I thought it was a tiger.
  2. Try a magnesium supplimant I find it helps
  3. He didn't have demons or issues he had a disease, the sooner we all recognize that this is an illness the sooner we can remove the stigmatisms that come with it and treat it as an actual health problem. My condolences to his family, he was a great artist.
  4. Man you two are certainly building an awesome relationship
  5. So normally I'm all about taking kids out and introducing them to fishing. But we have a retired guy who works with us part time who use to spend a lot of time fishing and hunting up north but his family is in another province and he hasn't been out fishing in 20 yrs. I decided I would take him out for some river smallmouth fishing(he's still a very mobile guy for a 70 yr old). With all the rain I was a bit worried about dirty, high water on Monday and the first spot we went to was unproductive. Took a chance on a small stream that has a big hole that normally holds a couple fish in hopes that I could get him into one or two. When we got there the stream was twice its normal volume but still had decent visibility. Bing bang boom he manages a half a dozen smallies out of the hole with the biggest a 16 incher. I have never seen a bigger smile on any of the kids faces than I saw on this gentlemans face. When I thought about it I was empathetic, imagine how much we all love fishing if we were cut off for one reason or another and hadn't fished in 20 yrs I imagine my smile would be that big as well after successfully fishing again. No pics my SD card was in my other camera. TL;DR Took an old guy out fishing; great time
  6. This trip intrigues the hell out of me. Like smallmouth on steroids.
  7. This is a great report and once again makes me realize that life is to short and there is too little vacation time to do all the trips I'd love to do.
  8. AWesome report Ryan. I love DCCA I just wish they had better campsites. Man Averie is such an old pro now.
  9. My son started with this http://www.basspro.com/Daiwa-Underspin-XD-Trigger-Reels/product/96662/ You can see it in the first pic. Its a great training reel for a spinning reel. The next step was a Quantum Hypercast http://www.tackletour.com/reviewquanthpx20.html And after that he was able to use any spinning reel. The baitcaster was a bit harder to teach.
  10. This work it in. I like a Jawbreaker with some pork on the end.
  11. I feel ya. I had a co-worker get in an accident a couple weeks ago since then I've been working 6 day weeks and still am until the 9th. On the bright side that means I the rest of the summer off.
  12. James here is a tool that might be useful for you. http://www.web2.mnr.gov.on.ca/fish_online/fishing/fishingExplorer_en.html Enter the species you wish to fish for and then Minden and how far your willing to go. Personally there are a lot of speckled trout lakes in the area a 8wt with a fast sinking tip or full sink line with large trout streamers down at @ 20-30 ft and you might hook up. Otherwise I'd probably go to Head Lake in Haliburton and fish for Muskie.
  13. My cousin who practices his mine resue diving in the harbour has seen everything there from Musky to Walleye just not numbers of fish.
  14. I use a uni-knot/Duncan's you can tie it as large as you need too and then just tighten it. Like literally a foot wide to start and performance of the knot is still the best there is. Threading the eye will still be an issue however.
  15. My son at 4 alreay doing his thing at 5 at 7 with his first musky I started him fishing as soon as he could walk but the key is catching lots of fish and not really fishing yourself. You.ve got to make the experience about them having a good time. As far as flailing hooks around make sure they have a hat and sunglasses on for protection.
  16. Nice report. Congrats to your uncle on a great fish.
  17. That's one happy fisherman. Good job dad.
  18. What a great report. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Those fish are beautiful. I wish LOTW wasn't such a long haul.
