  1. We actually got lucky this time Norm cause it seems like the powers still out all around us and alot of folks won't get it back till maybe tomorrow morning. Ours flickered a few times but we never lost it for more than 5 minutes at a time. Good to hear your back up and running again now. When the big storm came thru here last time we lost power for 50 hours but I'm wired for a generator so it wasn't a problem.
  2. I lost a 50' maple in the same storm Norm and just took the final load of it to the local dump this morning. The dumps have been really busy since Wednesday with all the clean-up, but at least their not charging to drop off anything storm related. Don't know if that'll apply to your area or not but I would think so I figured today would be very busy so I purposely arrived 30 minutes early and there were already a dozen trucks lined up ahead of me. By the time the gates opened at 9:00 there were probably another 15 or 20 behind me.
  3. The question about what boat should I buy, or motor, or truck or whatever comes up very frequentely around here and for the most part guys will say that what their using at the present time is the best there is, but 2 years from now when their using something different, that now becomes the best on the market. Sorta like the TV hosts and their sponsors
  4. Diane and I are in cabin 5 this year Mo but I don't know if it has an oven or not, but if it does your more than welcome to use it.
  5. I imagine chain saws are gonna be busy all across Southern Ontario after the last couple days.
  6. Yeah we've seen some nasty stuff Rich but it doesn't even come close to what folks in the southern US have seen lately. I spose losing a nice tree is very minor compared to what others have lost.
  7. It's amazing how fast a nice day can get nasty. I was down the hiway at my buds place yesterday afternoon and was just leaving when I noticed the skies getting very dark. Within about 2 minutes it was like a mini-hurricane and the winds were howling and heavy rains were pouring down, but then almost as fast as it started it was over again. I was home in 10 minutes and found a nice 50' maple in my backyard had been snapped off like a twig. It was lucky though cause if it had come just a bit this way it would have hit the house & deck. My bud called a few minutes later to say he lost 3 big trees on his property at the same time. Other than alot of downed trees I didn't hear of any serious damage or injuries around this immediate area
  8. Everytime you think you really need a smoke Simon, get on your computer and look up a picture of advanced lung cancer . My best friend for the past 35 years developed throat cancer 25 years ago from smoking. They cleared him up and it reappeared 8 years later, but only worse and they had to remove his voice box and he now talks with one of those vibrating gizmos. Last week he found out he now has cancer in his esophogus and he's just waitng for the prognosis as we speak. I also smoked for 30 years but gave up those filthy stinking things cold turkey 20 years ago. There are absolutely no reasons on earth to ever light up another smoke and about a gazillion reasons to quit NOW.
  9. I usually always have 3 rods rigged & ready with different style baits. One will always have a large spinnerbait, the 2nd will have some sort of jerk or twitchbait and the 3rd will be either a bucktail or boo-tail. If the fish is very aggresive in her follow but still won't take the bait on the figure 8 and turns away, I'll keep throwing the same bait back in the direction she went and will make multiple casts back to her. If she doesn't take it again within a minute or so I'll switch to another bait but only for a couple casts and then if she still won't take it I'll leave her alone and come back later in the day. If she follows very lazily and turns away I'll assume she's somewhat interested but not really enough to make a grab for the lure. That's when I'll grab another rod with something completely different in hopes that she just didn't really want the 1st offering but will grab the different style of bait and will work that bait for a couple minutes at least. If I'm throwing a boo-tail, I'll change up and grab the jerkbait. If the 1st bait was the jerk, I'll go for the big spinnerbait. Whatever you go with on your 2nd choice, toss it back to the area she came from and you'll be surprised at how often she'll grab the different style bait. Here's a fish I got a few years back after switching baits. She followed a twitch bait very aggresively but wouldn't take it and took off. I switched over to a spinnerbait and tossed it back to the original spot and she grabbed it on the very 1st cast with the 2nd bait.
  10. Sorry Bob, but you failed the test and are no longer allowed to fish in Canada cause 30C is actually only 86F. See, you woulda known that had you studied harder for your Canadian fishing license
  11. I find it hard to believe that some folks are actually in agreement with having to write a test, and probably pay more $$$$, for the simple pleasure of going fishing. Perhaps next we can force people to write an exam before we're allowed to walk down the sidewalk to prevent some poor soul from stepping out in front of a bus. We write an exam to drive a car yet it doesn't stop carnage on our hiways, we write an exam to drive a boat yet people drown in foolish accidents every weekend. We write an exam to carry a gun yet every November some hunter is killed because a license holder thought he was a deer. You could have people writing fishing exams till the cows come home but if somebody wants to fish a sanctuary, keep OOS bass or eat a 30" musky, all the testing in the world ain't gonna stop it. We're already over licensed, over tested, over taxed and over yada yada yada in this province as it is and we sure as heck don't need any more of it. Last fall I thought it would be a good idea to have a VHF in my boat so I could maybe call for assistance if I was in trouble or go the aid of another boater who needed help. That simple little safety feature in my boat cost me 85 hard earned $$$$ and a full Saturday. Nope, we've already got too much government interference in our lives as it is and we sure as heck don't need anymore of it.
  12. That right there would raise a red flag for me.
  13. You talking from experience Paul ??
  14. Best of luck Don.
  15. It's always fun to get a bunch of buds together for a little friendly tourney to keep things interesting. We've done it a few times too and it makes for a great weekend.

    Ahh...Jig

When life is good, it's VERY good !! Beautiful little hideaway you've got there TJ
  17. We lost our power a month or so back and never got it back on for 50 hours, so I sure hope you have better luck than we did.
  18. Hope the little one's feeling better Mike. Sheri and I went over to Pigeon for a couple hours this morning and talked to Pete on the water for a bit. I got a musky about 15 minutes into the trip but we decided to pack it in after the lightening started and seemed to be getting closer. It's only 20 mintues to Pigeon from here so it's not a big deal to call it short. I un-clipped the fish in the water so no pics or measurments but it was good to get out & get slimed again.
  19. Diane and I will be arriving early Thursday afternoon Rich and it'll be good to see you and Patsy again.
  20. If everything checks out OK with that Crestliner it could be a very good choice for you. I drove a FishHawk for 8 or 9 years and it was an excellent boat.
  21. It's funny but I've had WFN for a long time and now I almost never watch it anymore. Seems to me that most of the shows now are nothing more than infomercials for the sponsors and I darned near get dizzy looking at all the advertisments plastered all over the boats, shirts and hats. One of my favorite shows was Simply Fishing and even though he did some advertising it was bearable, but now it's become just like most of the others. Everytime he gets a musky now it turns into a running dialogue for whatever bait he was using. Anyways, that's my take on it, for whatever that's worth.
  22. You'll more than likely get them at Boaters World or West Marine if your close to either of them.
  23. Thanks Eric, I'll watch for you. Their calling for some showers up this way for the week-end so you may want to pack a rain jacket just in case.
  24. I'll be up around the island later in the day Eric, what boat are you gonna be in ??
