I remember a smokey basement fire we responded to in the middle of the night many years ago where fortunately, all the people in the house had escaped the fire and were standing on the front lawn when we arrived. Funny thing though, they only had one smoke detector in the entire house and it was in the kitchen, so of course every time they burned the toast the detector sounded. They got tired of it happening all the time so rather than move it to a better location, they simply removed it entirely and stuck it in a drawer.....outta sight, outta mind. Luckily the smoke was heavy enough that it was able to get into the drawer and activate the alarm and save their lives. So, even though their not always in the ideal location, they can still save your lives.
  2. Pigeontroller also has a nice setup on his Lund with a board going across the stern. He may see this and post the pictures of his rig.

Smoke detectors have become so inexpensive in the last few years there's no reason not to have your house full of them. You can get one for the price of a box of beer and probably 3 of them for the money wasted on a carton of cigarettes. And as was mentioned above, be sure to have carbon monoxide detectors on every floor too. You can't spend too much money on your families safety.
  5. For the most part Eric, the pike are small but like anywhere, they can be aggressive some days. Here's an average sized one that grabbed an 18" Bull Dawg a couple years back. As mentioned above though, the fishing there is nothing like it used to be and you'd probably do just as well in your usual places in Lake O off Toronto and save the drive.
  6. I was sitting in the truck out in front of the hotel waiting for a bud to show up when you went thru. You coulda joined us for breakfast.
  7. It very well could be Ron if the right amount of $$$$ is offered And BTW Ron, it would be polite of you to wave back to folks when your cruising thru Lakefield early on a Sunday morning
  8. Welcome home & thanks for the fish'n tale Joey, sounds like a great vacation for everybody. Nasty roads though, good to hear everyone made it home safely.
  9. You've got a good eye Chris That musky was my signature for a very long time so I thought the old girl needed a vacation for awhile

  11. I listed an excercise bike a few weeks back and within 2 days it was way back on page 3. Things move REALLY fast there sometimes.
  12. Thanks guys, I've used the site before and am aware it's free but just thought keeping it up front for a week would be better. And your right Chris, time is NEVER an issue for me
  13. I'm gonna be listing some stuff for sale on kijiji and they advertise that it can be kept on the front page for a week for $4.99 on a credit card. I don't normally use credit cards and certainly don't want to give out the number unless I'm absolutely certain about them. They advertise the site is secure but does anyone know for sure ??
  14. It's terrible what's happening in Japan and it just seems to keep getting worse.
  15. If you end up in the Beaches your only a couple minutes from Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club on Lake Ontario. I don't know if they'll allow you to keep a small boat there or not but they have a huge storage yard where they keep alot of large sailboats for the winter. Might be worth a try. http://www.abyc.on.ca/ Also in the Beaches your within walking distance of the streetcar line that'll take you straight into the downtown core.
  16. I believe the term is cubit and pretty sure it's the distance from your wrist to your elbow. But then again, it's been a very long time since I built an arc
  17. I'm watching the news now and it looks like they got hammered by that 7 meter wave with all the buildings and cars being swept away like toys. Sounds like there's even bigger waves heading for other locations too.
  18. Incredible restoration Bernie, really nice !! My uncle bought a new 35 HP Seahorse in the same colour scheme but I don't recall the year but I'm thinking early 60's ??
  19. From different chats you and I have had Pete, I can't see you ever being intimidated by anything and you should be pretty darned proud of yourself !! To be chosen over so many guys for this position says an awful lot for both your knowledge and your character. Congrats my friend !!!!
  20. Was in Home Depot yesterday and all the snowblowers & shovels are gone and are replaced with riding mowers & rakes. But we've gotta get thru the nastiness the weather dood is still calling for later to-day

  22. Spotted this little gem popping up in my front garden today, so maybe it's a sign that winter is finally on the way out. Course, there's still the 6" of snow that the weather dood is calling for late tomorrow afternoon.
  23. I dunno Wayne, I was going down a backroad on Friday and there were about 15 of them in the middle of the road who just stood looking at me and actually forced me stop and wait while they took their sweet time moving. Smart like a brick
