For Irishfield...And other Airplane enthusiasts!
lew replied to Pigeontroller's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Dax, some really great pictures there. I worked at Toronto airport back in '67 and we had a Mitchell stored in our hanger. Lotsa history to go along with those old girls and I'd sometimes sit in the cockpit and wonder if she was involved in any of the fighting during the war. She was bought by the Confederate AirForce from Texas and I stood on the ramp and watched her take off and that was definetely a sight to see. She was refurbished and I spose there's even a chance the one in your pictures is the same one. -
We appreciated both yours & Patsy's concern the last couple days Rich and you'll be happy to know the little guy is bouncing around here now like a little puppy. Guess he's making up for the couple days he lost when he was sick. And for what it's worth Rich, when we left camp yesterday morning we only travelled north about 1000' and there was a moose standing just 50' off to the side of the road. We were able to pull over for a bit to watch her but unfortunately my camera was still in the boat.

You nailed it Rob, coulda been any of the above.

I got back late yesterday afternoon after 6 days at Lakair for our annual g2g and as always, it was a fantastic week with all the usual great people plus a few new ones to the gathering. I didn't take any pictures myself this year so it's good to see so many others posting their's. There's one thing I want to clear up though... As quite a few of you know, my little dog Marvin got very sick up there on Sunday afternoon, infact so sick that had there been a vet's office open in the area I would have taken him in to see what was going on. He was very healthy & playful and was having a ball with all the other dogs all week long with the swimming and constant playing. He's 15 years old now and slowing down somewhat, but still did his best to keep up with the bigger and younger dogs. He was feeling much better on Monday and by Tuesday he was 100% again, infact he was feeling so good that when he fell off the end of the dock on Tuesday he never even flinched and used it as another excuse to keep on swimming We think his problem was too much sun and possibly a bit of heat stroke and are very thankful that he's better now. It was suggested up there on Sunday, and again in another post here yesterday that a member of our group was intentionally feeding something to our dogs for the sole purpose of making them sick. The person who supposedly did this asked me last week if my dog could have one of the treats and I said yes because it's something my dog eats on a regular basis and never has a problem with them. Most of the dogs at the g2g were at my cottage Sunday morning and all were in great spirits and having a blast playing with each other, including my dog. Most of them went home on Sunday so I'm not sure when they got sick but they were all fine the last time I saw them. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say that the treats that were given out by the member in no way had anything to do with Marvin becoming sick. Accusations have been made but not proven, and I don't think we've heard the end of this yet but I want it known that I personally don't believe what's been said and want to completely distance myself from any further problems that may arise from this.

I'm far from a mechanic but was always under the impression that if you were looking to improve performance, you basically need to upgrade both intake & exhaust as one without the other wouldn't make much difference.

When I ordered my 150 last year Dave I had them include an Xtang Solid Fold and it's an excellent cover. Very strong but folds up outta the way for higher objects or can be totally removed in a couple minutes. Something to look at anyways. http://www.extang.com/docs/solidfold.html

Been a LOT of years since I fished for bass, but back in the day it was fast moving spinnerbaits or jerkbaits, and early morning, late evining not much would ever beat minnow baits twitched on the surface. Never did find the patience for dragging rubber baits on the bottom though.

Fantastic story Mike and a whole bunch of great fish. I can't see alot of the pictures, something about bandwidth being exceeded, but what I can see are excellent. -
Been there, done that Paul, and any day spent fishing with Roy is definetely a great day of fishing....even if we did get skunked !!

Atta boy Wayne, good to hear you finally got it out !!

We actually got lucky this time Norm cause it seems like the powers still out all around us and alot of folks won't get it back till maybe tomorrow morning. Ours flickered a few times but we never lost it for more than 5 minutes at a time. Good to hear your back up and running again now. When the big storm came thru here last time we lost power for 50 hours but I'm wired for a generator so it wasn't a problem.
-
I lost a 50' maple in the same storm Norm and just took the final load of it to the local dump this morning. The dumps have been really busy since Wednesday with all the clean-up, but at least their not charging to drop off anything storm related. Don't know if that'll apply to your area or not but I would think so I figured today would be very busy so I purposely arrived 30 minutes early and there were already a dozen trucks lined up ahead of me. By the time the gates opened at 9:00 there were probably another 15 or 20 behind me.

The question about what boat should I buy, or motor, or truck or whatever comes up very frequentely around here and for the most part guys will say that what their using at the present time is the best there is, but 2 years from now when their using something different, that now becomes the best on the market. Sorta like the TV hosts and their sponsors

Diane and I are in cabin 5 this year Mo but I don't know if it has an oven or not, but if it does your more than welcome to use it.

I imagine chain saws are gonna be busy all across Southern Ontario after the last couple days.
-
Yeah we've seen some nasty stuff Rich but it doesn't even come close to what folks in the southern US have seen lately. I spose losing a nice tree is very minor compared to what others have lost.
-
It's amazing how fast a nice day can get nasty. I was down the hiway at my buds place yesterday afternoon and was just leaving when I noticed the skies getting very dark. Within about 2 minutes it was like a mini-hurricane and the winds were howling and heavy rains were pouring down, but then almost as fast as it started it was over again. I was home in 10 minutes and found a nice 50' maple in my backyard had been snapped off like a twig. It was lucky though cause if it had come just a bit this way it would have hit the house & deck. My bud called a few minutes later to say he lost 3 big trees on his property at the same time. Other than alot of downed trees I didn't hear of any serious damage or injuries around this immediate area

Everytime you think you really need a smoke Simon, get on your computer and look up a picture of advanced lung cancer . My best friend for the past 35 years developed throat cancer 25 years ago from smoking. They cleared him up and it reappeared 8 years later, but only worse and they had to remove his voice box and he now talks with one of those vibrating gizmos. Last week he found out he now has cancer in his esophogus and he's just waitng for the prognosis as we speak. I also smoked for 30 years but gave up those filthy stinking things cold turkey 20 years ago. There are absolutely no reasons on earth to ever light up another smoke and about a gazillion reasons to quit NOW.
