  1. Yup, a low speed reel for sure Roy but the big spool brings in line very fast and the power handle give you the torque. Lotsa guys don't like casting with it because of the large size, but I can toss baits all day with it without any problems. Just takes a bit of getting used to.
  2. For big musky baits that have alot of drag I use a 7000 series Abu. It's got a huge spool plus a power handle and even baits with double 10 or 12 blades come in effortlessly. Also excellent for taking up slack in a hurry with jerkbaits or burning other baits very fast.
  3. Hard to believe it missed you Jer, I'm probably only about 15 miles east of you and it looked huge.
  4. Sounds like it's gonna be a great trip Terry !!
  5. A very welcome thunderstorm with LOTS of rain and hail rolled thru the Kawarthas last evening and dropped the temperature waaaay down. At one point is was raining so hard I couldn't see across the lake. It rained all evening and just made everything much more comfortable. I shut down the AC for the night and opened all the windows & patio doors. AC is good when needed, but NOTHING beats nice cool, fresh air blowing thru the house Here's a couple chunks of ice that were dropping on us.
  6. There ya go Wonderful news Wayne !!
  7. Lousy news Old Man, hope you get things fixed up without too much hassle from the insurance company. Me losing a nice maple tree to a windstorm a few weeks back doesn't seem quite so important anymore after seeing what your going through.
  8. Gotta love a lake that holds both species
  9. Actually Chris, that IS my happy face
  10. Novembers just around the corner boyz, then this hot steamy stuff will be just a distant memory.
  11. The cold front moved thru here about 5 this morning with strong winds, rain and lotsa lightening. Power went out at 5:15 for about an hour but we're good now although the radio says there's still many folks without hydro. Sure is nice to finally see some rain though, it's been along time since we had any. I planned a musky trip to Upper Buck today but their calling for more lightening so I'll put it off until tomorrow.
  12. Saw on the TV an hour ago that a boat apparently capsized at Cherry Beach in Toronto and they were searching the waters for the occupant.
  13. I've heard that can happen if your 2 antenae (SP) are too close together Dave. Anyway you can seperate them a bit and try it again ??

    g3 boats?

I was looking for a new boat back in the late 90's and stopped into a G3 dealer in Oshawa. I never took one for a spin but they looked like a good boat and appeared to be well put together from what I could see. Doesn't seem to be many guys driving them but I've read on a few sites that their an OK boat.
  15. Cradles are too hard to work by yourself Jeff, get a good musky net instead
  16. Well, my biggest musky came from the St. Lawrence, my biggest bass came from the Kawarthas and my favorite place to fish is the West Arm of Nippissing Now count how many lakes are within a couple hundred miles of that tri-angle and it may be pretty close
  17. Jeeez, after close to 60 years of fishing I don't think my computer....or my memory.... is big enough to hold the names of all the lakes I've fished
  18. Bill, I've seen some of the guys from the southern fishing shows wearing those head wraps and they look like they'd do a good job. Chris, the shirts I have with the arm pit and back vents, along with the high collar came from Mountain Equipment Co-Op in Toronto. Excellent shirts that I've probably had for at least 10 years. I also wear another shirt made by Columbia that is very light and comfortable and has a full width vent in the back. I got that one from CTC for something like $50.
  19. The loose fitting sunblocker shirts are good on a hot day too. They block alot of the heat and with open arm pits and back flaps the air can circulate and help keep you comfortable. I have a couple and one of them even has a very high collar to keep the sun off the back of your neck. A wide brimmed hat is also invaluable on days like these.
  20. Maybe give just a bit more thought to the full windshield Brian, along with a stand-up top. Sure does make life alot more bearable when fishing on those cold miserable fall days.
  21. Never been up that way but have always thought I'd like to take that cruise some day. Your pictures are amazing and thanks for taking us along on your trip. Happy 20th too !!
  22. Some nice fish Larry and I agree with you 100%, alot of my best fish have come while a storm is brewing on the horizon. When the sky is black & the thunder is rumbling, the bigguns are biting.
  23. If the bend isn't too severe Mike you may be able to straighten it out yourself. I did it once to a reel handle I bent and it was fine. For mine, I set it on the work bench and lightly tapped it with a hammer until it was straight and never had another problem with it.
  24. Sorry to hear that Nancy
  25. Fabulous pics Mike and congrats on the baby !! Any chance you picked out the "Coolest Pop" T-shirt ??
