  1. Properly prepped, the flexrock might just work....
  2. 3 years old and it looks rough? If it's painted wood then it probably wasn't prepared for paint properly because it should last longer than that. Flex rock would need a good base to adhere to I would think and this does not sound like a great option. You could either scrape it and re-prime and paint or just cap it although I'm not sure the wider areas would even look good without waves in the aluminum. Maybe a siding/aluminum guy would know more....
  3. About a week ago my dad texted me about going fishing for perch! A buddy of his had been to Burwell and caught his limit in a couple of hours. Whats unusual about this request is that he almost never goes fishing and we haven't been out fishing together in 20 years. We could only go on my days off midweek and having just a 14 foot tinner with a 15 hp would limit us to a calm day. Somehow the weather and schedule worked out so after a few phone calls looking for info and a call for help here we decided it was a go for Burwell. Minnows are hard to get this time of year near lake Erie so I picked up 2 scoops at Bills bait in Hamilton. Good thing because the owner of the marina was wishing he could get some to sell but none are available to him... We headed out to 40-42 feet where a few other boats were fishing and after a half hour or so we found a few fish. The fishfinder was showing bigs schools of something under us(not sure what) Eventually after some controlled drifting we got into them. Two scoops just isn't enough when they start biting because we ran out. The size of them was smaller than in the spring but overall not bad. We ended up with 87 so you could say the trip was worth it. Lots of smaller ones to throw back but at least the smim bladders weren't an issue since the water was only 40 feet and the fish were a bit off the bottom. The gulls went home hungry, we went home happy......
  4. As a former employee of Stelco and a current employee of US Steal I know first hand the scam of the purchase.... promises of production and employment levels were made and promptly broken to protect the US plants from having to reduce production due to the global meltdown caused by the massive fraud on wall street...Our fearless leader John Surma was appointed to a commitee to protect US companies AND as a consultant for the "buy American" policy...shortly after this we were shut down and almost everyone was laid off for almost a year..A lawsuit was launched by the goverment and the Union but when it became clear that US Steel was guilty, Harper ordered a settlement out of court to avoid embarassment due to our weak investment canada act...(this led to potash corp staying in Canadian hands). In Flint Michigan they know all too well what happens when a company moves to find lower wages. In the south wages are much lower but when you make $14 an hour in South Carolina you can still afford to buy a home and maybe a new car every few years. Try to do that here and you need to make at least $25 for the same lifestyle. We have too much crap we don't need and we are all too willing to buy the cheapest possible to feed our desire for even more "stuff".. Companies are always looking to maximise returns for investors and people are just numbers. The loss of the middle class results in cities that are segregated like Detroit(you have it or you don't).....
  5. My number 1 bait for the river is a green jig head and white powerbait..tipped with a worm sometimes... Cheap and effective. If the water is stained I might throw on a gulp... My last outing produced a 17 inch walleye in 3 feet of water at 1:30 in the afternoon..(Plus a few bass)
  6. Ok, he suggested burwell as well.....
  7. Taking my dad perch fishing tomorrow. Anyone know the depths they are at this time of year? Point Abino, Maitland, Burwell, or long point?.... I haven't been out since early in the year(abino) so I'm out of the loop......
  8. Wait till you get a real hog on the line!!.. Keep looking and the grand will cough one up for you..
  9. Seems pricey when you add all the "extras"... But then again, I'm cheap....
  10. I'm going to say no...not funny....wait a few months, then it might be funny....
  11. Mine did that too...water in the gas tank...maybe from the ethanol...
  12. What's that? $ 21,000+ per song? Ouch....
  13. Try launching at fishmasters in Dunnville without the strap....I dare ya!!
  14. Maybe next time they could try tossing then Away from the boat!!!!
  15. I used to fish a lot more than I do now. Lucky to get out more than a couple of times in a month these days. Work hasn't been reliable enough to spend money on anything other than essentials. I do manage more trips in the spring than summer. If you have a trailer on a good lake or even a cottage or home, consider yourself very lucky.....
  16. Only when the battery runs low....
  17. Could you imagine Dolton fishing?? Is there someone to take the fish off the hook for him? Are we done yet? Where are the bathrooms? I gotta pee.... I would pay to see that!!.....
  18. I use a 12 volt rechargeable with my lowrance...lasts for a weekend easily
  19. Nice work Dave...good to see the Stelco boys helping out too...It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to put on a derby but its worth it to get more kids involved in the sport.....
  20. Very cool...
  21. Couldn't make it either...working nights at the place pictured beyond the ship....Its nice to see a city that encourages fishing on the waterfront...
  22. I'd say ditto on the unit Terry has pictured. I think it even comes with a battery but if you need one, they're about $25 at Sail or Acme on parkdale ave. Comes with a suction cup for the transducer as well. I paid $94 bucks for mine in an online auction but you should be able to find one for less than $150...... P.S....... Make sure you have your PFD on in the inflatable!!
  23. Try fishmaster in Dunnville...he's on the web....
  24. Better safe than sorry....
  25. The pike and brookies there seem to love little cleo spoons in bright colors like fire tiger. Walleye might be tough to find in any numbers due to commercial netting that was done in the past.
