I never spend more than $75 on a rod. It hurts too much to break something expensive. For those that say life is too short for cheap rods, I guess there's always credit....

I'd just like to get out fishing more... a moose with the bow would be nice as well..

I'm also short of a spot to hunt. The problem with knocking on doors is that a lot of farmers are weary of people that they don't know. Whatever you do don't scout without permission. With the arsonist still at-large people are on edge. My uncle lost his barn on Easter weekend along with 3 other fires...

Whoever made the call did the right thing.. but only because of good luck maybe... a dry spring and it could have been a different story... the Niagara conservation authority tries to do the same predictions but on a much smaller scale and with bad results in a.lot of cases..

The crappies aren't there like they used to be either. Once everyone discovered how good they were to eat, that was the end...

The stocking stopped with the MNR budget cuts years ago...

I hunt in 19.. lots of tags available but I'm sure it's because they want to reduce the moose population to almost none in order to save the woodland caribou population. The "science" behind this is a little strange to me. Just reduce the wolf population....

What 'signals' the true beginning of spring?

Crappies so shallow their back fin is out of the water.. -
Watched a few boats come in from the lake on Hamilton harbour late this afternoon. Yesterday someone in a canoe didn't think he could make it back to Bayfront park so he proceeded to come ashore and portage across the plant. Wasn't long before security nabbed him and escorted him out. He was lucky to avoid charges.. kind of foolhardy to be canoeing on big water that had ice floating around last week...

Remember when we thought wearing PINK was gay? NF
pics replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
Working in a steel mill with the grit and grime associated with it.. you wouldn't expect a gay person to want to work there but they did and still do.. rarely do they come out due to the stigma attached..plus the fact that we have communal showers might have discouraged them..i really don't care either way because they don't bother hitting on straight guys anyways, neither do the lesbians hit on the girls. I've never liked bullying but I'm not going to wear pink.. it's just not my color... -
I saw the justice or lack thereof in Caledonia.. It isn't right.. The hunt the natives conduct here in Hamilton is done with bows and it appears to be well run and safe. The area is closed to the public and hunter numbers are limited. One of them was right along the 403 where it goes down the escarpment in Ancaster so its very close to populated areas. Safety should always be a factor no matter where hunting takes place.. I wish hunters of all backgrounds had a chance to hunt there as well but we don't... I should add that my wifes grandmother was native and I have cousins who are half native(one teaches at a school on six nations and lectures at universities about native history and rights)... we sometimes agree to disagree... lol

I go there for gas and to visit the Burger Barn and aside from the crazy guys in pick up trucks wizzing past way over the speed limit, I have no problems. Anyone I have contact with is usually very friendly. Here is a view of hunting from a native perspective.. http://www.tworowtimes.com/opinions/letters/hunting-season-six-nations/

It's a weird case no matter what.. the rumor and chatter came from people that live closer to the situation than I do.. either way, safety should be paramount regardless of "rights"...the dropped charges stinks of political interference...

The turtle island news is reporting that it was pretty much the bow hunters fault. " he was bow hunting out of season and not wearing hunter orange so the gun hunter didn't expect him to be there " it would seem that the story is a bit twisted on the six nations side. What some have said is that Stan and his friend were aware that there was a white bow hunter that they took exception to it and intended the shot to be a warning. The question I have is why is it OK to use a rifle on such a populated reserve and why is it acceptable to shoot from a vehicle? Never mind that the shooter was not wearing orange.. if he didn't have enough for a lawyer, someone else did because he had one of the best available.. things work differently on the reserve and you bet there's more to the story than what we've heard..

You might be better off trying to find a cottage with room to build a rental unit or 2. That way you keep it small and manageable while someone else helps you to pay the bills

I would say Onamans is a good choice.. his cabins may be full but he also has a few campsites as well. The brook trout can sometimes be tricky depending on the water temps but when you get one it will be a nice size. We launched at the ramp and stayed out on the lake for a few days at a time. I wish I could go back but I spend 2 weeks bow hunting for moose up there and the wife would divorce me if I was gone for another..

I smoked some salmon with home made wood chips and chunks. Turned out awesome... I have some maple, cherry and apple from the firewood pile. My next project is to try making my own charcoal..

Every type of fish sold in Canada should be tested. So many uninformed people eat contaminated seafood. The guide to eating the sport fishing is very important....

I came across a small Loblaws owned store today named BOX. Three quarters of the store is no name with Presidents choice and name brands filling out the rest of the stock. The prices are lower than No Frills as well....

Target corp has nothing to do with the liquidation which is being handled by another company. I did go to 2 different stores today looking for a particular item. What was most interesting was the difference in prices between the stores for the exact same product. An outdoor wicker chair was $69 at one and only $32 at the other. The store with more stock was cheaper for some reason so I'm wondering how many other things are priced that way. Lindt chocolate bunnies had a difference of $1.75!!!

some of the prices seem to be reaching the bargain threshold... music at 50% although most people nowadays just steal it from the net.. I like to have a hard copy myself. If you have time to poke around you can get some deals but it's only a deal if you have a need for the item, otherwise you're filling space with dust collectors...

I actually enjoyed the remake and the soundtrack as well... plus it was interesting to pick out parts of Hamilton that were in the movie..

New location and old dates for the Toronto Sportsman Show
pics replied to John Bacon's topic in General Discussion
I loved the old location but it was becoming too expensive to go so I welcome the change. Free parking saves at least $15 and you don't have to get near downtown... -
I myself have lost a truck that ended up burned on the rez but I doubt that this boat ended up there. More than likely it will end up parted out somewhere in another barn and sold. I really hate thieves.....
