It's a weird case no matter what.. the rumor and chatter came from people that live closer to the situation than I do.. either way, safety should be paramount regardless of "rights"...the dropped charges stinks of political interference...

The turtle island news is reporting that it was pretty much the bow hunters fault. " he was bow hunting out of season and not wearing hunter orange so the gun hunter didn't expect him to be there " it would seem that the story is a bit twisted on the six nations side. What some have said is that Stan and his friend were aware that there was a white bow hunter that they took exception to it and intended the shot to be a warning. The question I have is why is it OK to use a rifle on such a populated reserve and why is it acceptable to shoot from a vehicle? Never mind that the shooter was not wearing orange.. if he didn't have enough for a lawyer, someone else did because he had one of the best available.. things work differently on the reserve and you bet there's more to the story than what we've heard..

You might be better off trying to find a cottage with room to build a rental unit or 2. That way you keep it small and manageable while someone else helps you to pay the bills

I would say Onamans is a good choice.. his cabins may be full but he also has a few campsites as well. The brook trout can sometimes be tricky depending on the water temps but when you get one it will be a nice size. We launched at the ramp and stayed out on the lake for a few days at a time. I wish I could go back but I spend 2 weeks bow hunting for moose up there and the wife would divorce me if I was gone for another..

I smoked some salmon with home made wood chips and chunks. Turned out awesome... I have some maple, cherry and apple from the firewood pile. My next project is to try making my own charcoal..

Every type of fish sold in Canada should be tested. So many uninformed people eat contaminated seafood. The guide to eating the sport fishing is very important....

I came across a small Loblaws owned store today named BOX. Three quarters of the store is no name with Presidents choice and name brands filling out the rest of the stock. The prices are lower than No Frills as well....

Target corp has nothing to do with the liquidation which is being handled by another company. I did go to 2 different stores today looking for a particular item. What was most interesting was the difference in prices between the stores for the exact same product. An outdoor wicker chair was $69 at one and only $32 at the other. The store with more stock was cheaper for some reason so I'm wondering how many other things are priced that way. Lindt chocolate bunnies had a difference of $1.75!!!

some of the prices seem to be reaching the bargain threshold... music at 50% although most people nowadays just steal it from the net.. I like to have a hard copy myself. If you have time to poke around you can get some deals but it's only a deal if you have a need for the item, otherwise you're filling space with dust collectors...

I actually enjoyed the remake and the soundtrack as well... plus it was interesting to pick out parts of Hamilton that were in the movie..

New location and old dates for the Toronto Sportsman Show

I loved the old location but it was becoming too expensive to go so I welcome the change. Free parking saves at least $15 and you don't have to get near downtown... -
I myself have lost a truck that ended up burned on the rez but I doubt that this boat ended up there. More than likely it will end up parted out somewhere in another barn and sold. I really hate thieves.....

Oil spilled in the wilderness is never good.. especially the oil sands type...

What you giving your honey for Valentines Day

Nothing.. she and I agree that it's more of a day for companies to jack prices up for a winter cash boost, which is just fine but not from my pocket... working nights all weekend anyways... -
Doug hit the nail on the head.. we spend 2 weeks in the bush in a trailer that is comfortable but not fancy. We bow hunt so we don't meet up with many others while out there and we can go years without shooting one. The point is getting out and slowing down for a couple of weeks. I wish the MNR had a better strategy for moose management than what we have now...

Burger barn has $5 breakfast from 8 to 10 Monday to Friday... it's big and it includes coffee.. and no tax since it's on the six nations reserve.. better than the chains any day..

Great tips... I use Kijiji for finding firewood.. I'm now hooked up with a fellow that has 10 acres that he let's me cut from. I just had to remove some of the dead stuff from his back lot that he wants to expand.. turns out that it was all red oak. I just renewed my mortgage at the lowest rate the bank will give me and all my credit cards are paid off. Of course my long suffering wife would like a real vacation for once so I better start saving....

This certainly wouldn't do well with thick ice.. I think it might be worth maybe $100 but not 300.. it will sell well with the tech set...

From the top of the lake erie coke ovens I see open water where there was ice a week ago.. of course there was an ice breaker out there 2 weeks ago to keep it from getting too solid.

every time I get firewood from the pile I set aside the fruit wood for making chunks.. beats buying it..

I have a 12 or so year old Napoleon, a small webber for camping, one charcoal Bbq and a smoker too... when I replace the napoleon it will be with another but I can't see that happening for a while..it's built to last....
