same thing happened to me in late May.. I was in a canoe near shore and 2 guys moved right in on me from shore.. sometimes hitting the canoe. I refused to move off the spot and ended up with 21 crappie. I haven't been out fishing since..

I see the Lancaster regularly so I guess I'm lucky.. I've been inside the museum during the moment of silence and the building rumbles.. this year it's flying partner was the b25 so the noise was beautiful.. all of the services around here get a flyby and in years past we used to get one at our service at work ...

Thank you OhioFisherman..

CHCH is broadcasting from the warplane heritage museum with some amazing stories about the airplanes and crews that served is so well..

The history channel has some amazing programming this week leading up to November 11.. last night focused on the tunnels under Vimy Ridge.. I was reading up on the POW camps here in Canada and the 35000 German prisoners.. 6000 of them wanted to stay after the war but according to the Geneva convention had to be repatriated back to Germany.. thousands were sponsored to come back by Canadians..

Dilemma - I Ran Over a Cat (in my driveway)
pics replied to Pikeslayer's topic in General Discussion
You let your cat outside, you take your chances. Ours stay inside due to the dangers of being out. I hate all the neighborhood cats that show up to dig up the garden and mark their territory.... -
We have a cenotaph here at work but most years only the office staff and those not in production can attend . I have no idea what they are doing this year but they usually have a piper for the last post along with a few veterans. We may receive an invite but it's up to the department manager to let us know and they rarely do.. I'm on nights so I might just attend the service at the warplane museum...

The tree guys are cashing in right now .. there's just too much work available. High quotes are to be expected.. I wouldn't pay more than a grand myself.

My old Stevens 410 got quite the workout at moose camp.. lots of birds around Nipigon this year.. too bad there were no moose

A long time ago when the Bay of Quinte still had fish in the shallows of Mohawk Bay, my buddy and I spotted something bobbing in the water.. turns out a small tinny turned over with 4 adults and one kid. The fishing method was to drift and pick up fish off the bottom but the problem that day was the waves were bad, especially for a 12 foot boat. We managed to get 3 in my boat and 2 in another we flagged down. Only the kid had a life jacket on!! His dad was clinging to the overturned boat exhausted and the other guys were nearby.. I brought the 3 into the back of the boat to prevent us from suffering the same fate .. it can happen in an instant..

We protect theses types from death with laws to punish the drivers.. in the old days it was natural selection that got them... as for riding a bike on Friday sidewalks, there would still be people saying it's the drivers fault..

The guy who lives next to me has depression and anger issues. He smokes a lot of pot that can't help with his depression but maybe with the anger?? . Almost 40 with no job and way . I just don't think it is a net benefit for everyone.. I Do wish I had access to medicine made from it without the high..

Exploring The Ogoki Outback - A Trip To Mojikit Lake
pics replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Wow, what a great trip! Some days it's ok to go back to bed when the weather turns..lol.. last year when moose hunting we had 9 rainy/windy days out of 11.. cabin fever!! Big water usually means big pike so I'm sure there are lots around.. thanks for the report -
95% of cops are great but these days with social media and cameras the bad ones are exposed pretty quickly. The cop had no reason to kill it the way he did. I had an old dog that would sometimes wander if I accidentally left my gate open... I would be devastated if she died that way..

I certainly wouldn't want to work with anyone who is either drunk or stoned.. it's just too dangerous! The whole drug and alcohol thing came out of the US headquarters along with a ban on toasters, hot plates, etc.. Being treated like children was their way of preventing lawsuits but they never understood that our culture is different than theirs not to mention we really don't sue our employers like they do in the states... I'm not too big on the idea of full legalization at the moment... will people be able to smoke it while in public places?? What age will limit will apply?? Not that it isn't already widely available for them....

Can't wait for this!!

I have vertigo and pot could help but currently my employer believes that you are impaired up to 28 days after smoking it. They only do post incident testing but an incident could be anything from a simple emission release to being caught sleeping during your lunch break... A positive test would result in a locker, vehicle search and a lengthy suspension/rehab followed by random tests for a year and last chance letter. They obviously subscribe to more Conservative beliefs about pot....

I don't believe that it will get better for the average Joe no matter who's in charge. The global economy is bad for us Canadians . With housing prices as high as they are, incomes need to be high as well. They have been going down relative to our costs but we have to be " competitive " don't we? More free trade seems to mean lower wages for all but a few lucky ones. No party has the answer to this problem do they?? We used to turn raw materials into value added products to export in the past but all too often today we just ship the raw materials to third world countries that in turn sell us products we should make for ourselves... Good luck Justin..

Shhh.. if you tell everyone about the deals out there It gets around fast.. too fast for me to get in on them... look what happened with the Plano boxes at dollarama..try to find some now..lol

I used to be a Harper supporter but after his party abandoned the US Steel workers and manufacturing in general in favor of the oil patch, I gave up on him. Not to mention the reduction in protection for our lakes and rivers that we love so much.. there's just too much to list..

I don't mind the quiet night either.. just push and charge the ovens according to the schedule with no interuptions.. Either way it's dark when I go to work and when I go home..

Who is this middle class I hear them spout about?
pics replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
I'm in the thick of the US Steel fiasco as are a few good members here.. The one positive is that we have some of the best facilities in North America..we just need someone to properly run them.. As for the guys currently running for government, I see no one that I can say for sure that I support.. We have Harper spewing bull about his coveted child care benefit money but it's taxed as income anyways and with my type of luck it will bump me into the next tax bracket .. the spin goes on and on... I will support anyone who stands up for the average guy while telling corporations what to do..not the other way around as it is now -

Somehow we have been fooled into thinking that a lot of middle class manufacturing jobs pay too much. Therefore it's ok that the jobs move south or to China in the eyes of many. These are the people who built this country!! I recently looked at a pay stub from 7 years ago and I was 10 thousand dollars ahead back then!.. -
I found them by the hundreds up where we bow hunt for moose.. all small with the biggest about the size of a ping pong ball. Traveling behind another atv resulted in facefulls of green dust from the mature ones..
